Althea woke up the next morning, stretching out her limbs as she yawned slightly.
This is the best sleep she have had while in prison these past few days. Well, how else would she describe going to sleep without any form of disturbance from the inmates. It's the best ever. Opening her eyes, she got up only to notice the inmates returning back to their spaces with some glancing randomly at her but the red haired lady maintained a stern look at her. She mentally rolled her eyes and pulled her legs up, bowing her head against her knees, ignoring whatever thing they could be saying. Althea tried to figure out what the day is for she has lost count of the days since she arrived prison. She thought for a while a sighed, recalling what day it actually is. If she wasn't in prison, she would be at work right now, receiving her promotion. The promotion she has always dreamt off, now it's happening but she isn't there. It had taken her a whole lot of efforts to finally want to get promoted at work. Now she's being deprived of those privileges. She buried herself in deep thoughts, thinking about the path she choose for herself. Her thoughts were interrupted when when an announcement was made on the intercom. She stood up and joined the inmates who were already on a straightline, raising her hands over her head. Soon, the wardens showed up and unlocked the cell. They matched forward with the wardens guarding. They were led the prison cafeteria and Althea waited untill it got to her turn. Taking her meal from the prison chef, she irked in disgust. The meal itself looks unappetizing and this is what she has been eating for days now and she has grown pretty tired of it, but what can she do? Absolutely nothing. She missed her old life and she wants it back but there's no way she could get it back. Everything sucks! Prison sucks!! The meal sucks as well.!!! She walked to a random spot and sat, staring at the meal in pure irritation. She looked at the other inmates and watched as the devoured the meal like it was their last meal on planet Earth. They must have grown used to living such isolated life. They looked happy and carefree, not even the least bothered, more like, the prison was their home. She dipped her spoon into the Rice, scooped some quantity and ate. She felt nauseous absorbing the taste of the Rice. It was tasteless and sour. How on earth will she get used to this lifestyle? Just as she was about to scoop the second spoon, her meal was knocked over suddenly, making the rice spill over. Althea was startled at first but when she looked up, her countenance changed drastically. The red haired lady smirked wickedly and Althea needed no soothe sayer to say that the actions were done intentionally. As if that wasn't enough, she salivated on the spilled Rice on the floor. "Oops! Sorry... I honestly thought that was the refuse dump. But, I get you might be really hungry as we only get to eat one meal per day. Feel free to eat on the floor...." She leaned closer, the smirk on her lips not faltering. "That's where murderers like you deserve to be!" She said. Althea clenched get fists tightly, slowly getting aggravated by their actions. They won't stop tormenting her, no matter what! She inhaled deeply, holding back herself not to react and give them what they want. It's obvious they want her to fight back, but she'd listen to Warden Zheng's advice and avoid them. Although, she was starving! Now her meal has been ruined, she won't be able to get any until the next day. That is the more reason why prison life sucks real bad. You get to live with inmates who are mentally unstable, or extremely frustrated and only pours out their vexation on others. She stood up, placed the spoon on the table and walked away, ignoring the barbaric individuals out to frustrate her. She was almost at the door but halted on her steps and turned around when something caught her attention. She fixed her eyes at the large TV screen, her brows creasing into a deep frown as she watched Oscar host a press conference. Her heart sank just by staring at him. He looked ravishing as always... This man used to be the love of her life, not until now. She listened to his speech and the questions being thrown at him. She did not only feel angered, she felt hurt that he still had the guts to say she attempted to murder Katie Rolland. He said she was a countryside woman and she was jealous. How dare he? How dare he cook up such lies. By clearing his own name, he's painting her black. He's making everyone believed she truly murdered Katie. How dare he do this to her? How dare he abandon her in prison? How dare he lie to her? How dare he trick her? Of course, it's all her fault for blindly loving and trusting him! Althea felt so angry as everything dawned on her. Realization struck her with a full force. The truth she has been trying to deny, it's now out in the open. How can she still trust him after watching his press conference? only a fool would still want to love and trust such a despicable man as Oscar. Its clear now that Oscar had used her like garbage and dumped her only where garbages are. Althea's eyes were red as she stared at the TV screen with pure hate and disgust. She felt like going into the TV screen right now and giving him a heavy blow on his face. "I hate you Oscar Williams!! You broke my trust! You lied to me!! You ruined me!! You ruined my entire life... I hate you!!!" She yelled out loud, gripping her clothes tightly. Everyone's attention turned towards her but that was the least of her problems, she turned and ran off with a heavy heart.Althea tried to be better. It's been a week since Oscar's press conference and she tried to live by the terrible revelation from Oscar. All she wants to do is accept her fate, after all, she brought this upon herself. She was still sulking and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't help the grudge and hate cooking up within her.She would never have believed it if she was told that Oscar would betray her in such manner! But it's all good. Nothing can be done! Absolutely nothing."I do hope he's happy wherever, he is.... " She mumbled painfully. For the past one week, she has refused to go to the prison cafeteria and eat. How can she eat when her heart is heavy and she's hurting deeply. But isn't she only tormenting herself by refusing to eat? While he's out there living a good life and eating healthily." I must really be stupid " She said to herself again and rose from her bed, wiping the lone tears on her cheeks. "Althea Grace Miller?" She looked up when she heard her name -
Gasps, heavy breaths, the sound of heels hitting the ground could be heard. Her gasps echoing through the empty spaces on the streets, the heavy footsteps behind, seemed unending and scary. A lady in her late twenties, short spiky blonde hair, piercing blue eyes- Running for her dear Life. Regardless of how tough and confident she seemed, her life is on the line right now, for she has just messed with the wrong person. She turned, her heart racing as those who were after her were already catching up to her. However, she halted on her steps with full force when a black SUV car screeched in front of her. She held the bag of money close to her chest, her heart thumping really fast and knowing fully well that she was doomed. She took a step back when a man alighted from the car. His black tuxedo suit, dark shades and all... He looked domineering and dangerous. His men had all surrounded her by now, leaving her with no room to escape. She groaned and fell on her knees when her legs were
She could recognize it just anywhere.. That bracelet, it's hers. Oscar had gifted it to her, it's the only thing of Oscar's she has here... How could she have lost it? Why didn't she notice? She could vividly recall taking it off out of anger after listening to Oscar's press conference. How then did it get to the warden? And what does it have to do with the inmate that tried to escape? These and many more questions flooded her mind. "You have ten seconds to step out... " The wardens began to count down and with each count he took, her heart kept beating. However, she stepped out before she could stop herself."Excuse me Warden, the bracelet is mine!." The Warden sharp gaze were fixed on her." So you are that inmate who tried to escape?"" No, I assure you, there seem to be a mix up somewhere. The bracelet is mine but I have no idea how it ended up with you. I didn't try to escape, I promise " She said in her defense. She hasn't been this confused in her entire life? How did th
Althea jerked up when a cup of iced water was poured on her, bringing her back to consciousness.Perhaps, it could have been better if she had just died than to be woken up to a life filled with more misery. She looked at the Wardens whom she have come to despise so much. They are also part of this torment she's experiencing by being so unjust."Althea..." She looked towards the direction of the voice, It was Warden Zheng."Please leave us.." He said to the other wardens who hesitated before leaving. When he was sure they were gone, he moved closer to Althea, squats to her level and places a comforting hand on her shoulder."I'm sorry this had to happen. I wasn't on duty that night, I would have done something to prevent this. You must have been so scared, weren't you?" Althea casts her gaze on him. She could see sincerity and concerns in his eyes. She nodded her head, responding to his question. "I.. I promise, I didn't try to escape" She forced herself to say."Oh dear! I believe
"Gosh! I feel fresh.." Lynx said, twirling hair sideways. " I honestly cannot remember the last time I felt this relieved and clean "" Well, we won't get to do this again until six months later... "Lynx sighed. " It's what we have to pass through as prisoners. Althea was quiet, her mind racing with thoughts of what Lynx had said."Let me ask you something Lynx" She turned to Lynx. "Tell me Lynx and I want you to be honest, if you had not been caught by the police, what would you be doing by now?" Lynx placed her hand underneath her jaw, thinking hard. "Let's just say I'd be super rich by now. Having mansions built all round the states. I'd probably be a multimillionaire, don't you think?"" That actually sounds weird! Why would you live off someone else's livelihood? " Althea asked. " Just kidding... " Lynx teased, nudging her arms playfully. "Well, to answer your question rightly, I guess I'd be better off with a well paying Job. I really am not a fraudster you know, but cir
Althea felt belly sweet when the Warden forcefully dragged out the inmates. She stuck out her tongue at the chubby woman who had spoken Ill of her. She's not the type to get back at others, but this was worth it. They shouldn't mess with her just because of her crimes. They're equals regardless."Hey! Why the hell did you do that? " Lynx asked, slapping her arm."They were using hard drugs. Besides you know it's against the law of this precinct right? " "Still, it's none of your business Althea. You shouldn't have had them reported. They have been doing this for ages, and no inmates have dared to report them." Lynx scolded." They got on my nerves. I would have let them off the hook if they had quietly put the cigarettes off but they made fun of my past and I got sick of it. Well, I'm not the one to just see what's wrong and let it slide" Althea said with an eye roll." Well, this is prison... You don't react to certain things. Besides, rights and laws do not work here. They are cert
"Althea!.. Althea!!" Lynx tapped on Althea gently, trying to wake her up. She was awoken by the sound of Althea murmuring in her sleep like she was having a nightmare. Balls of sweats formed on Althea's forehead. Her brows creasing into a frown and her eyes shutting tightly. Lynx tapped her again, her voice raising as she called Althea's name again. Althea jerked up upon hearing her name. Her eyes frantically searching everywhere but as it settled on Lynx, she calmed down a bit. "What happened?" She asked. Lynx crossed her arms underneath her bóöbs, raising her brows. "I should be asking you what happened to you? You kept mumbling in your sleep. Where you having a nightmare or something?" Althea let out a weary sigh, her hand rising to massage the tension in her forehead. She had a nightmare. A really terrifying one at that. It was a dream about Oscar and Katie Roland getting married on the day she was to get released and then, she rushed over to the church to try to stop th
It was visiting hours but Althea sat curled up on her bunk bed. She closed her eyes, lots of thoughts going through her head. She reminisced over the moment she and Katie were at loggerheads and that was over a year ago. _______________Althea used to work at the reception in an hotel when a lady showed up looking elegant as ever. Her bags, shoes and glasses all looked really expensive. She stood in front of the reception and took off her glasses while her mouth rumbled as she chewed her bubble gum noisily."Welcome to Kings Hotel ma'am.." Althea said, smiling widely."Are you Althea Grace Miller?" Althea felt perplexed that the stranger knows her name. However, she remained calm and answered."Yes ma'am, is there a problem?" "Not at all, but I want to have a word with you outside. Let's talk!" Katie turned and walked away, acting all bossy.Althea hesitated, wondering why some Lady she doesn't know wouldn't want to have a word with her. But, she felt it might be work related and
