Chapter 2

Ember's P.O.V.

It's been a month since I left Alfred but the thought of him still made its way into my heart and I couldn't help but miss him and everything we had ever done.

Being a mother was always what I wanted and Alfred would have been the best father ever but seems like destiny keeps playing with my thoughts, but I've decided to end this today, sleeping with a man once does not guarantee a baby and I will not sleep around and get my heart broken again.

That was it. In the twenty-first century, having a baby without sleeping with a man was very possible. I took a 'u' turn as I drove along the street that led to the hospital.

My heartbeat pounded as fast as possible, and I would have sworn that I could hear it from my ear, but I knew too well that was a lie, and I was just nervous but why the hell was I…

“Miss Winston.” my thoughts were interrupted by the doctor's voice and I looked at her with a small smile.

I had scheduled an appointment for artificial insemination this morning, but I was the one shivering in fear for reasons I didn't even know. I've always wanted this but was I ready for this?

“Hi, Doc Georgia.”

“I'm going to ask a few questions before this starts, is that alright?” I nod gently while looking at her and burying my nail deep within my skin, “... Pregnancy is not something easy, and for insemination, that's a lot harder to take in than you can imagine. Are you sure you would rather not adopt a baby, I mean….”

“I don't. I get what pregnancy is and I want my baby to be from my blood. I know what I'm getting myself into so do me a favour and cut the crappy question and just do what needs to get done.” I laid back letting my entire body face the white ceiling not wanting to get a glimpse of what she looked like right now.

“Let's begin then.” She cleared her throat and I slowly but steadily fell into a deep slumber as she injected me with a certain liquid I couldn't put a name on.

After what seemed to be hours, my eyes flew open and a blurry sight met with my vision. It almost seemed impossible to see, but after several minutes my vision was back to normal, and I was staring at Georgia with a pounding heart.

“It's all done, and you're free to go home.” A sigh left my mouth as the joy burst through every vein in my body.

Finally! I was going to be a mother.

“Thank you so much.” I placed my hands against my stomach as I rubbed it gently. It's going to be one hell of a journey, but it will certainly be all worth it when I have a baby in my hands.

Without having to think much I dressed and left the hospital as I was famished, but my ringing tone filled the beautiful air in the car which made me confused, but I got more confused when Georgia's name made its appearance on the caller's ID.

Did I forget something there?

“Hello?” My voice came rather in the form of a question than a greeting.

“There's a problem with the pregnancy.” I immediately paused the car, completely ignoring the brazier car horns from everywhere.

“What do you mean by there's a problem? You asked me to leave and everything was fine, why didn't you double-check it?”

“You don't want to hold this conversation over the phone, you need to get here now.”

“I…" I didn't get a chance to speak as she hung up, and I swear to God if anything goes wrong with my baby I'm going to commit murder even if I don't know how to.

I got to the hospital with smoke rising from the top of my head, but my attention was caught by Georgia and other doctors talking as I approached them but the look on their faces stated that something was wrong.

“What's going on?” I asked with my heart racing as fast as a jet and I couldn't keep calm when my baby was involved.

“You might want to take a seat.”

“I…" I trailed off considering we were in a hospital and I couldn't yell, so I followed her into her office and shut the door, “... What the hell is going on, Georgia? Did something happen to the baby”

“That's not it. Well…" She breathed out nervously, which spanked every bit of my curiosity and worry at the same time.

“Say it Georgia.”

“You're carrying a man's child. Not a donation or anything, but an actual man who wanted to have a child with a certain woman.” My breath ran cold, and I would have sworn that time itself was frozen as I looked at her.

“I'm what?” Those were the one words that came out of my mouth, I couldn't think nor could I comprehend what was going on.

“I'm so sorry Miss Winston, I know we have made such a massive blunder but….”

“But? For fuck’s sake Georgia we were clear with what I wanted, a child I knew nothing about its father and the father I didn't want to know, and you gave me a baby whose father wants a surrogate?”

“I had no idea…"

“It's a damn hospital! A reputable one as a matter of fact, and you make such a hideous mistake… You know what, ask whoever the hell the father is to provide another child for that but as for this one it's as good as gone, and you shouldn't dare to provide any information about me to anyone”

“I'm afraid it's too late, Miss Winston”

Before I could say a single word, the door flew open, and a powerful presence was felt deep within the bones of my body. The horrified look on Georgia's face was wild, but his eyes burned holes behind my head.

“Are you the one with my child?” His questions brought me back to reality and I felt the raging anger with me.

“Well, the child is not yours any…" My words tied within my throat as the air was completely knocked out from my lungs while my eyes captured his deep hazel pupils that could swipe the universe away within a blink.

An electric spark ran through my veins and I would have sworn that a thread was tied through a magnetic field we couldn't see or hear a thing from, but the connection that lingered in the air was far more vast than anything I've ever felt.

“Sebastian Sinclair.”
