KYLE
~~ It definitely isn't everyday that you earn a lecture from Caius, and I've already gotten five of them this year. “You should have told me when you got the tip. What if you had gotten hurt? What if it was just a trap?” “I'm not a child Caius and you know that,” I snapped growing irritated, “so please stop treating me like one. I can make my own decisions without having to run to you every single time like a scared little cat.” “You are a target, we are all targets -” “The scientists are dead!” “And you think you do not have enemies anymore? You think, you really think that…we are all free from threats? Humans are greedy. If they ever find out about you, about the powers we all possess we will lose everything!” I clenched my fist although I saw the truth in what he was saying and despite my stubbornness, I understood his concerns. But that was really not the point and the fact that he was missing is what keeps grating on my nerves. “I found my mate Caius!” I said my voice rising, “you could save the yelling and lecture and at least congratulate me a little.” Caius stopped for a while, his eyes slightly widened. Then he took a deep breath and smiled. “You are absolutely right. I was just shocked and concerned but this is very great news! Congratulations, Kyle.” He shook my hand, clapping my back and I smiled, grateful. The others all did the same -except Zico who just sat down staring at me with a blank expression. “Is there really any need to be excited about the prospect of reproduction?” He asked with a shrug, “do we really need to populate the world with more people like us?” “How about you get your dirty mind off the gutter?” Azra laughed, “perhaps then, you will understand that, mating isn't all about reproduction you bastard.” Zico rolled his eyes, “It's involved, and it's not an exciting prospect.” “I'm excited about it,” Freya said with a grin, “very excited to naturally make more of our breeds.” I laughed because seriously - why on earth were they talking about reproduction already? Yes I have a mate. But that's just about it. This girl - Amara, I had no idea where she came from. Which can be easily resolved but how could I possibly, be able to make her trust me? How could I make her want and understand all these? I've looked into her beautiful eyes countless times. All I've seen is a scared and dejected lady. God alone knows what she has had to endure in life that made her so - weak willed and skittish. “Okay, how about we all settle down and forget about reproduction for now? And you -” Caius pointed at me, “you will be the one to tell Maya that you got a mate.” A lot of Ouuuuus filled the room and I laughed. “You are gonna give the poor girl her first heartbreak.” Freya said, shaking her head and the rest laughed. Caius only grunted, “she has to get used to it. It was about time this little crush she had on you stopped.” I smiled and didn't say a word. Because unlike what they all think, Maya doesn't have a crush on me. Yes she's closer with me. Close enough for me to know that her crush was Zico, and not me. Have got to give her some credit for hiding that so well. Caius went back upstairs and I was about to follow him, to go see MY MATE, but Freya stopped me. “Can I talk to you for a second?” She looked serious so I nodded and followed her to the empty kitchen. “Thank you for helping me with a private investigator, but they found nothing.” She said her voice breaking at the last words and I reached out to touch her. “I'm sorry, you will find her soon.” “It's been fifteen years Kyle. I've been looking for my sister for fifteen years. What if she's not alive? What if somehow -” she shuddered, “I do not know. Our parents were the only family she had left and… after they died where could she have gone to? She was only five years old.” I nodded and pulled in for a hug. “I'm sorry, Freya. I will do everything I can to help you find her.” “I'll never forgive Ben for killing them.” “Ben is dead, Freya. You can't keep hating the dead and he was a child who lost control of his wolf turn. I'm not making excuses for his recklessness but he's dead now.” I could tell that my words had no impact on her, because that familiar distant look was there again on her face. I imagined how hard it had to be, to go see your parents only to find out that they have been murdered by one of your own, and your sister was nowhere to be found. “I'm going to find her, no matter what it takes. She's my only relative and if anything has happened to her - blood will flow.” I smiled and squeezed her shoulder before she brushed past me out of the kitchen. Without hesitation, I went to the guest room where I knew Amara would be and knocked. Nothing - no sound cane. I knocked again and listened closely this time. What I heard was sounds of someone sobbing and it tore at my heart so hard that I kicked the door open without thinking twice. Amara was on the bed, hugging her knees up against her chest as she rocked back and forth, her whole body shaking with sobs. “Fuck!” I growled and rushed towards her to hold her, almost moaning when she easily leaned into my embrace. “What's…what's wrong Amara?” I asked to stroke her back but she didn't respond. Instead she sobbed harder and I just held her, as she cried into my shoulder, her tears soaking my shirt. I noticed her scent, which wasn't what I was supposed to be noticing yet I can't ignore it as it filled my senses. She smelled like sweet lavender with a musky touch, and the more I inhaled hungrily, the more it filled my head with something I can't quite fathom, and the more I wanted to hold her closer and - devour her. Something as simple as her scent was driving me this crazy. Is this the mate bond? Several minutes later, she stopped shaking and I felt the sob reducing before she leaned away and looked at me with such broken and sad eyes - my heart broke for her sake even though I had no idea what sort of sadness she had hidden under those eyes. “I'm so sorry,” she sniffed and cleaned her nose with her shirt, “I'm sorry about that, please forgive me.” My hand reached out to touch her hand, “Do not apologise. I understand, and I do not what is bothering you nor will I ask. But I want you to let you know that everything will be fine. I promise.” She smiled sadly and stared deep into my eyes and I smiled back. Then her smile dropped and she stared at me with an expression that mirrored just what I was feeling. Her hand tightened on mine and I heard her heartbeat accelerating. “I do not understand, I don't know what is happening.” She said and shifted uncomfortably. My hand, as if moving on its own, cupped her cheek and she gasped slightly, “Tell me.” “I feel like -” She stopped and closed her eyes, a faint blush painting her cheeks. When she opened her eyes again, the desire I saw there was like a punch to my gut and it took every strength I had to not just grab her there and then and claim her - in every way possible. “I want you to kiss me.” She didn't have to tell me twice, because before the last word left her mouth, I fisted her head and pulled her closer to mine. Just one second - I took one second to take a good look into her breath taking eyes before capturing her lips with mine.“What you are, Amara…what you have been trained for is total destruction. Be void of emotions other than anger and hatred because in them you can find the biggest source of inspiration and motivation. Do not forget your destiny.”“Why does this have to be done?” My cousin asked, rolling her eyes.I looked at her, shocked at the audacity behind her question. She should know better. She is as dedicated to this mission as I am, so why now?“Because,” Uncle Kiaz started patiently, “Those beings are evil and unnatural and we must cleanse the world of such evil. They should not be roaming freely with such power.”I nodded, and my cousin seemed satisfied with the answer. But for me the reason was way deeper than that.Has always been. This is my calling. This is my destiny, I have always known it, I have always felt it deep within my bones.Ever since I had to sit by and watch one of them murder my parents like they were nothing, I was convinced that I wanted nothing more, the way I desired
"Mother fucker!” Mother fucker, indeed.I dropped my arm immediately as I stared at Kyle, sheer horror gripping me.What does he mean by mate?Surely not what I think because - that cannot be. Maybe I heard him wrongly.I cannot, will not be mated to my foe.To my target.“So she really is your mate then?” The lady asked and Kyle just smiled with a shrug.“Can feel it in my head so yes, I believe she is.”“This is very interesting. How do you think Caius and Dahlia would react?”Kyle shrugged nonchalantly, “I have no idea but we will find out. I did not tell them about the anonymous tip - I just wanted to confirm first.”I had no idea what they were talking about and I couldn't ask.Hell I was too frozen by shock to even move an inch let alone say a word.“Let's go home first.”The lady nodded and went at the driver's speed. My head was still buzzing with a million questions as I felt the car moving away.I know what mating means. I have dedicated a fair portion of my life into resea
