Waiting was the most excruciating part of the mission for everyone. I could feel the anxiety and apprehension from the shifters on our team at the eastern border. Adaira was trying to be strong as a leader but I could feel her tension through our mate bond. No one knew what to expect, how the creatures would attack or where they would choose to attack. My plan to Adaira earlier of going with what she had told the others till there was a need for her to put up the barrier had just been me trying to make her feel better. Deep down, I knew it wouldn’t work, I knew that the only hope of keeping the pack safe was with her powers, but she needed more time to get used to the idea. She had tried to get me to join another team, but I'd be damned if I let her be separated from me again during a battle, even for a few minutes.
