The rest of the evening went too quickly for my liking. We all had some fun and games playing Charades, Pictionary, Tapple, Uno, and this new one called Do You Really Know Your Family? Them games were a great laugh especially Dad trying to draw Cookie Monster. Jen was rolling over the floor in laughter on the brink of tears, it was that hilarious. I want to try and have a little alone time with Savannah tonight before her and her father leaves for the evening. So, I do what any desperate guy would do. Steal it. I take hold of Savannah’s hand and lead her outside to my backyard and take a seat on one of the loungers by the pool. “Have you enjoyed your Christmas?” Savannah asks me. I take hold of her hands and look at her, “I’ve had the best Christmas I could have ever asked for sweetheart. That’s because you have spent the day with me and my family. You being here is the best present my mom could have ever given me.” I lean forward and place a soft, gentle kiss on her lips, and
Savannah P.O.V Today is the day of this mystery date with Chase tonight. I wonder what it could be? He said to dress warm and comfortable so it can’t be at a fancy restaurant. Maybe it could be an outside movie theatre? Well whatever Chase has planned if it’s anything like our first date a couple of days ago then, I can’t wait. After getting home last night from the Lockwood’s house I asked Dad if he didn’t mind me going on a late-night date with Chase and what he told me I couldn’t believe it I had to get him to repeat what he said. “Baby girl, I already know about the date. Chase told me what he had planned and asked if it was all right and I gave him my full support. It’s nice that he asked me, he’s a good man, I want you to be happy as long as you are happy then I am happy.” What has Chase and my dad been talking about when I’m not around? Well, whatever it is as long as my dad is not wanting to kill Chase, I’ll take it. Throughout the day I have been messaging Jen to see if
Parking up in a car park we climb out of the car, Chase walks around to the trunk and pulls out some blankets, a box of battery-powered candles, and a wicker picnic basket. We started walking down the pathway to where we are going. It is a short walk before Chase announces that we’re here. We laid down two of the blankets and Chase set up the candles before sitting down and opening the basket to pull out what was inside. Inside the basket, there were a mixture of sandwiches, a cheese platter, a mixture of fruit, a salad bowl, some fried chicken, and some freshly baked brownies. For drinks, we have different canned sodas, a couple of glasses, and a bottle of sparkling cider. Chase certainly went all out for this picnic, and the view is breathtaking. We sit on the blankets enjoying the food and the surrounding area. My eyes are looking everywhere as I have never seen anything like this from being from a small town in North Carolina to seeing the city life of California, while Chase sit
Walking into the house I brace myself for my father’s wrath. I head on into the lounge to see my father sitting on the couch with what looks like a coffee in his hand and a very pissed off look on his face. “Good morning Savannah,” Dad says so coldly. “Morning Dad, did you stay up all night waiting for me?” “In some form of way yes, I have young lady. Care to explain yourself?” What has gotten into him? Why is he so pissed at me for falling asleep in a car and staying outside the house in said car? “I fell asleep in the car on our way back from Hollywood. It’s as simple as that, I didn’t technically break my word Dad I did come home. But why I woke up still in Chase’s car I don’t know you’ll have to ask him about that. What I don’t know is why you’re getting on my case when you’re sat there still in the same clothes as yesterday too. Care to explain yourself, Dad?” Dad stands up in a fury of rage dropping his cup on the floor and it shatters around his feet and points a finge
Chase P.O.V After I arrived home, I went upstairs to change into my running gear and go for a quick run. Leaving my phone at home I just take my iPod with my running playlist on and headphones and go out for my mile maybe two-mile run. On my run, I think about Savannah and wish I had brought my phone with me to text her to see how it went with her father. I ran two and a half miles before I get back home to see Mr. Blakemore’s car outside my house. Walking into the house I see my mom and dad standing in the hallway with Mr. Blakemoore. Is Savannah here too? When they notice me my dad signals for me to go and have a shower and meet them in his office. I wonder what’s going on. I have the quickest shower of my life; I’m dried and dressed and headed towards my dad's office in under ten minutes. I knock on the door and wait to be greeted but my mom opens the door and invites me inside before shutting the door behind me. I walk in and take a seat in the available chair in front of Dad’
Savannah P.O.V Sitting on a rock overlooking the water, I feel more at peace with myself and all things around me. I didn’t want to go to the beach near my house as that would be the first place Dad would look for me. I drove around for over half an hour when I noticed I was in Malibu of all places. I pulled up to a car park next to a secluded beach, walked down, and climbed onto a rock, and here is where I have stayed ever since. It has got to be close to lunch by now. I’m starving. The last thing I ate was some fried chicken at the picnic last night. Just as I’m about to stand up to go get something to eat two familiar figures are walking toward me. How did they find me? “Mind if we join you?” Jen says as they both climb up the rock and sit down on either side of me. “Talk to us, sweetheart. What made you run away and come this far? When you know you could have always come to us, either of us. So, why didn’t you?” “I couldn’t come to either of you about this because I know m
“What are you doing here?” Jen asks her boyfriend. Greg points to the group of guys behind him, “I’m with my cousins and their friends, they live out here. I came to fix their server, and we all went for a ride.” “But how did you know I was here? I came to a secluded part of the beach so I wouldn’t be spotted.” “I recognized your car Sav, I didn’t think it was you at first. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but then I saw you climb out of your car looking distraught and in a world of your own, I called Jen to tell her where you are because I could tell something wasn’t right. I guess I was right on the feeling but wrong on the reason why.” “What did you think was the reason why?” Chase stands up and confronts him. “Did you think I hurt my girl?” “In all honesty yeah, I do. Sorry man but you don’t have the best record right now. I don’t know the whole story nor is it my place to know but that was my first assumption.” I stand up shaking my head at these two boys I
It was time to head back to Santa Monica. I have some unresolved issues to deal with and I cannot put them off much longer. Since Jen drove to find me with Chase she decided to journey back with me. On the open road, I put on some music to try and break the tension I feel in the car. It’s not because of Jen it’s because I’m anxious on how my dad is going to behave. I swear if he’s still going to be an asshole when I get home, I’m staying with Jen for the night. I can’t deal with him like that, he needs to understand and accept I’m growing up and need to make my own mistakes. Just leaving Malibu and the music playing in the background, lost in our own thoughts it’s not until we both hear a familiar guitar solo opening to a song is when we look at each other and smile. “Oh, my god I have not heard this song in months, maybe even years,” Jen says. “It is a great song, isn’t it?” Jen agrees and we start singing along to Rihanna ‘Shut Up And Drive.’ We were just having a good time t
