Heavy thundering continued as if heaven is angered and lightning made the surrounding illuminated intermittently. The pouring rain fall upon her heavily.
It was almost for six hours; on a horse back, they were fleeing, drenching in heavy rain, but Yin Yue had no clear sense about it. She had drenched totally in rain, with her clothes stuck to her body completely and her eyes were red and swollen from crying. Coldness from the heavy rain was entering through her skin, piercing through flesh and reaching bone marrows, making chills run through her whole body.
But at the moment, her mind was completely benumbed from the shock she experienced and she didn’t feel anything at all. She barely managed to hang on the horse by leaning on to the strong man behind her, who was riding the horse.
Their speed was considerably lowered because of the heavy rain but they had managed to distanced themselves from the capital far enough.
At the moment, they were passing a desolate area. There was no sign of a single house, any inhabitants, even of an animal to be seen not to mention a trace of a human being. The horse kept galloping forward.
It seemed they were heading towards a forest. They had to cross the forest so that to reach to a human populated area.
Soon after entering the forest, they could get a little shelter from the pouring rain because of the thick canopy of the forest. Yet, light of the lightning managed to pierce through the canopy and illuminate their road. Wang Wei rode the horse forward, trying to find a place for them to stay the night.
On their way, when the lightning was illuminating the surrounding, suddenly he saw a cave beside the road. Although that might be a habitat of a some kind of beast, in this desperate moment he thought of checking it and rode the horse towards the cave.
After reaching the entrance, Wang Wei got off the horse, but that made the little girl on the horse who was leaning on to him, unstable. She started shivering and wavering here and there terribly on the horse. So, Wang Wei took her off the horse and help her stand up by holding her in his arms. Then he listened to the sounds of surrounding and started to examine the cave.
Wang Wei was a highly skilled martial artist. As the most trusted head personal guard of General Jiang Ling, he was a soldier with excellent military skills. He had very sharp eyes like an eagle and his night vision also was not bad. Not only that, he had got a sharp nose, good hearing skills and fast reflexes due to his cultivation for years.
He tried to penetrate through the darkness and examine the place found, by using his skills. After searching a while, he couldn’t feel anything amiss or dangerous and entered the cave carrying the little girl.
Inside the cave was dry. Plenty of dry leaves and wooden sticks could be found. After trying for a while, Wang Wei managed to light a fire and immediately he made it grow large by adding wood sticks and dry leaves.
The little girl was lying on the floor where he put her, curled up like a ball. She was shivering terribly. Wang Wei lifted her up carefully and brought her near the fire.
“Young miss, come near the fire and make yourself warm.” He asked her.
But little girl was obviously not fully conscious. So, he started helping her warm up. He removed his outer cape, wringed it well and hung it near the fire to dry. There was a little leather bag attached to his waist band. He took and open it. There were few pieces of dried meat, dried fruits and nuts neatly stored in it slightly wet. He put the meat under the heat of fire.
Yin Yue was slowly getting better with the warmth of fire. She slowly sat up and slowly started to warm herself up by putting her hands and feet near the fire.
The smell of roasted meat started to spread. Wang Wei took the meat out of fire and offered the meat and dried fruits to the little girl.
“Young miss, you must be feeling weak now. You may eat some food to get some strength.” He asked the little girl.
“I don’t want to. I have no appetite.” Wang Wei could hear a mosquito like murmuring coming out of her mouth.
He was well aware that, how terrible she must be feeling right now, how that incident happened earlier must have affected to her innocent little mind. He felt very sad remembering the always cheerful, bright smiling face of his young miss previous to the incident. But he was helpless. Now his sole reason of living is to protect this young miss, the one and only heiress of his master’s family.
“Miss, we can only stay here for tonight. We have to move out of this forest and find a place to survive. So, miss should eat something and be strong.” He again said to the little girl. He didn’t know how should he persuade her.
Suddenly, he looked at the little girl’s face after hearing the sounds of her sobbing. With the light of fire, he could see tears were rolling down her eyes ceaselessly.
“They said my father has betrayed our country. They said my father is a traitor” She continued sobbing.
“They killed my mother, my unborn brother, they killed Xin er. They thought she was me because she was wearing my clothes” Yin Yue was crying her eyes out.
“I do not want to live too”
Wang Wei was startled hearing that. He understood the pain she was going through very well. But he wanted to persuade her to live. As his master’s last wish, he wanted to protect the only heiress of master and avenge for his master. So, he went near the little girl and knelt in front of her. This little miss was merely nine years old little girl but he had to make her understand the importance of her survival. He took her little hands to his palms.
“Miss, my master is a truly great hero. I can swear on the honour of a soldier of black dragon army*, he never betrayed our country. He was framed by someone and that person is the true betrayer.” He told little girl the truth.
She slowly stopped sobbing and he continued.
“That person and his people killed your family. Miss has to avenge your family. So, miss must eat and be strong”
Little girl seemed to get his point. Wang Wei felt the lifeless little hands which were in his palms become stiffened. She stopped crying. She wiped up her tear-filled eyes and face. She sat up properly.
“Then give me something to eat” She asked Wang Wei.
A faint hint of determination was added to her voice. Wang Wei heaved a sigh of relief. He got up and offered some water to her first, then he offered some food prepared.
Yin Yue had no appetite at all nor did she feel any taste of food. She ate the food given by Wang Wei with the only intention of surviving and becoming strong. She had to avenge her family no matter what. That intention gave her a hope to live.
She didn’t eat much but that was enough for Wang Wei because she chose the option to eat and survive. After eating, she stared at fire loosing among her own thoughts. Her clothes were almost dried by now. The heavy rain had stopped and it was only drizzling outside . Wang Wei took his thick dried cape and put it on a flat surface of the floor and made a somewhat comfortable and warm place for his young miss to sleep.
“Miss, it is not much comfortable but please try to have some sleep and get some rest.” He asked the little girl.
Ying Yue’s mental agony was so much that she didn’t feel the physical tiredness nor did she have a peaceful state of mind to fall asleep. But she knew that if she wants to continue her journey, her body must have a rest. So, she obeyed his words and went to sleep.
Wang Wei could see that even in the dream, young girl was suffering. Although her eyes were tightly shut, her brows were furrowed. She was turning here and there, murmuring herself, sobbing…etc.
Because she was sleeping, he took a quick tour outside the cave and gather some fire woods because he had to keep the fire lit for entire night. He put them near the fire to dry and sat in front of fire, watching over the sleeping little girl and keeping the fire alive.
*Black dragon army -The bravest army squad which was under General Jiang Lin’s command. Consist of his personal guards. General Jiang Lin was called as black dragon because of his bravery and his personal army consists of few hundreds soldiers was named as Black dragon army.
It was King Lian this time, starting riots around the southwest border of the empire. That border was under the surveillance of General Huang Song. He has an army of 5000 guarding the southwest border with him. But news from the spies confirmed that King Lian had about 25000 in his army. Although his troops are less than King Lian’s about 1/5th, after estimating all his strengths and considering all the information he got from the spies, General Huang was confident that he would be able to defeat King Lian if he fights according to a well-planned strategy. Therefore with much confidence, General Huang started leading his troops next day. Cavalry troops were to attack as two entities from two sides while archers were to surround the entire battle field and guard against the long range attacks. Specially, Archers had to play an important role as a backup for cavalry and other troops because they were fighting against an army with very high manpower. Every soldier was aware of the risks
General Jiang Lin was relaxing with closed eyes, comfortably leaning on his chair, after the tiresome involvement in battle. His closed eyes added a look of serenity to his handsome face. He had got a few scratches from the recent war but those wounds were already treated and well bandaged. Although a few noises could be heard outside the tent, inside of the tent was mostly calm and quiet. General Huang also was sitting on a chair beside general Jiang Lin. Even though the war ended victoriously for their side, it was obvious that something was troubling in General Huang’s mind. He looked anxious and curious at the same time with his furrowed brows. He was repeatedly curling up his moustache, while staring at his friend. But his friend doesn’t seem to notice anything as silence continued. But infact, General Jiang had been feeling his friend’s intense stares even though his eyes were closed. But he felt too lazy to break the silence, so he ignored his friend’s s
After few days... General Jiang was heading home from the border with twenty of his most trusted subordinates in Black Dragan army. Before entering the capital, they had to pass a defile beyond the Megan valley. When entering the valley, General Jiang suddenly ordered his men to hold their horses. Two of his body guards reached him to ask the reason for his order. "I feel very uneasy about something, there must be something amiss definitely "he said. "I want you to examine the bi-face of that defile before we enter. Both of you, take five men each and check before we enter" he ordered. They got the order and left while others were waiting there, keeping their guard up. After about one incense stick time, two bodyguards returned reporting what they found. "Master, you were right. There are about 200men hiding. I couldn't figure out what their target is. But definitely they are waiting for an ambush." one guard reported.
General Jiang had been shot by three arrows. Seeing that none of his men are surviving further, he desperately continued the fight until he felt someone stabbing him behind. Vomiting a mouthful of blood, he fell on his knees slowly looking at the masked man who stabbed him. That man came in-front of his eyes with his rest subordinates. He removed his mask and that is when General Jiang couldn't believe his own eyes. "You…" General Jiang managed to ask. "yes…it's me." It was General Huang who had stabbed him and now was standing in-front of General Jiang. "why?” General Jiang wanted to know. "You colluded with enemy to harm our great Qing empire. As a general of Qing army, as a subject of Qing empire you have committed treason. All the members of Jiang family are to be slayed by beheading as per imperial order" General Huang announced. He looked at the fatally wounded General Jiang Lin scornfully…or was it the satisfaction in his eyes a
Wang Wei started searching all the corpes one by one like crazy. He could identify his fellow soldiers’ bodies who were guarding the mansion of General, female guards who were there to assist & protect the lady. And beside them, he could identify their ladyship’s corpse lying, a blood stained dagger was in her folded fingers. It seemed even in this sudden, unexpected massacre, she had not given up without a fight. She indeed deserved to be the "lady of the black drgon". Wang Wei sighed deeply with regret after seeing these. But there was still another important thing he should do. Therefore, leaving all the corrpses behind, he went inside the house and started searching. The house was a mess because during the killing process, the assassins had searched the house too, scattering and breaking the things which got into their hands. He searched every nook and corner very carefully until he noticed a pile of hay in the stable near the Servants' quarters.Although that was a nor
"Yue Er..,are you practicing the embroidery ?" Lady Jiang called her daughter. Yue Er was indeed practicing the basic embroidery techniques her mother taught her, when she heard her mother's voice. She lifted her head from the embroidery she was doing and looked at her mother. "yes mother, I'm practicing. Soon I will be able to do embroidery as good as mother" she replied her mother enthusiastically. After seeing her daughter's enthusiasm, lady Jiang Lin smiled at her happily. "Then, let me see your work" she asked her daughter, coming into her room. It seemed her daughter has practiced really hard because her embroidery had turned into a beautiful Peony flower. "Yue Er…you have done a good job. It is so beautiful. Mother is so proud of you" she praised her daughter. Yin Yue was so happy. "Mother…when I'm able to do embroidery like you, I'm going to embroider a dress for my l
"Mother....!"When Yin Yue woke up screaming ,it was already dawn. The sun has risen. The beams of golden sunlight were coming through the entrance of the cave, brightening the inner surrounding of the dark cave. The smell of roasted meat was spreading everywhere around the cave.Yin Yue sat up and looked around.Wang Wei was sitting infront of the fire, preparing breakfast.Because she screamed ,Wang Wei was looking at her at the moment . "Young miss, you are awake,"Wang Wei casually asked. "Please come here and have something for breakfast. There's no much but I prepared something for breakfast ."Wang Wei said to Yin Yue. He had brought water from a nearby stream and gathered some fresh fruits. He had prepared the rest dried meat too. No more assistance for getting ready in the morning. No more cheerful greetings from Xin Xin,who was her maid and closest friend. Sighing to he
"We can hire a good team of assassins to assassinate General Huang and eliminate his family totally" Wang Wei said with a lowered voice, lowering his head. Ying Yue's eyes turned towards Wang Wei,shooting a sharp glance at him. "Do you think I would allow to do something like that?"although her voice was not high,Wang Wei felt as if those words are booming in his ears. "I dare not. This ignorant servant asks for young miss's forgiveness"he immediately knelt infront of her. Yin Yue calmed down. "I am the daughter of General Jiang Lin.Merely taking their lives is not enough for me.I want them to suffer ,I want them to have the taste of betrayal,I want to disclose their conspiracy to the world and I want to restore my father's and my family's honor"she said with determination. Wang Wei was really surprised for a moment .Yesterday, she was a little girl, frozen with fear and shock but today she is issuing orders as if she is a general in army. "No wonder,it is our master's blood runnin
It was one fine morning. As usual, Yin Yue got up early in the morning, managed to complete her own schedule without trouble and started her appointed duty on the day. As she was a lowest ranked servant, she was not appointed to one master or one courtyard. Her place of duty is always changed according to the need and her duties also varies according to the need. Therefore she was able to meet almost every type of working personnal. That was the reason she could complete the previous home work given by Wang Wei successfully. Today she was working as a cleaning servant at first young master's quarters. After cleaning, she carried the dirty water bucket away and now again she was walking towards the quarters, carrying a bucket full of clean water. She was passing the young master's reading room when she heard some sounds of two people talking. It was not in her nature to eavesdrop another's personal talking but according to the words she heard, that seemed to be someone was reprimind
After three weeks... The time flew by. Everything went normally and smoothly. For Yin Yue, the only special thing happened during this period of time was the grand opening of their inn. According to Zhu Li's ideas and planning, with the help of Wang Wei and Ting ..,the opening ceremony of the their inn happened successfully. Now it has been doing considerably well for about twelve days. Except for Zhu Li and Ting, they had another two females and one male as their staff. Two friends of Ting, also were giving their helps when needed. They also were timid and disobedient at first just like Ting. But Yin Yue or Wang Wei didn't know how, Zhu Li had managed to train them in a very short period of time like a week ,before the opening ceremony takes place. They did a great job by spreading the news about newly opened inn, describing the amazing taste of food there..,high quality service with lower amount of money.. ,comfortable settings of rooms..and other facilities. Their food menus we
Yin Yue was sitting around a table in the garden with her parents. They were chatting happily with each other. It was a rare occasion Yin Yue got to spend her time freely with both her father and mother, because her father was always busy with military works. They were having tea and enjoying the scenery of setting sun in the evening . Suddenly, as if it was going to rain,a massive dark cloud invaded the sky.It was getting larger and larger and covered the whole sky including the sun.The surrounding got dark like a solar eclipse happening and a sudden thick fog started to invade the surrounding, backing up the speed of spreading darkness.Yin Yue was frightened to the core because of this sudden change. She looked at where her parents were but she couldn't find them. The thick fog had covered all the area densely .She called her parents, crying. But she couldn't get any answer. She kept calling while crying .She couldn't move anywhere to look for her parents because of the darkness .And the t
Zhu Li served tea and snacks to Yin Yue.Yin Yue came to her normal senses immediately. All others were just waiting until Yin Yue have her tea. "Uncle, sister,Ting er..please join with me.Let's have tea together"Yin Yue asked every one. Wang Wei and Zhu Li looked at each other..,after hesitating for a moment, they joined Yin Yue. They enjoyed the tea together. After having tea, they started discussing and exchanging information. Wang Wei informed about all the decisions he took and all the plans he made in details to Yin Yue. And he informed the secret codes of communication which they decided to use. After explaining the plans they made in capital, they started to analyze the information Yin Yue had collected . "Miss,as you have mentioned, city magistrate has only two sons. And eldest son is not the present lady's son.right?" Wang Wei asked Yin Yue. "Yes,I cofirmed it from many people" "How is the father-son relationship between elder young master and magistrate?" "They have a v
When they reached to the door, Yin Yue could see that was a girl and a little boy. She identified the girl immediately. "Zhu Li.." Yin Yue called her name. Her voice was filled with the happiness of seeing a familiar face in an unknown city. Zhu Li came running to Yin Yue. The little boy tag along with her, hiding behind. "Oh ..our young miss...our miss.." she muttered happily, smiling and sobbing at the same time, observing Yin Yue from head to toe. "Zhu Li is so sorry. Miss had to suffer so much. Zhu Li couldn't take care of our miss better." Zhu Li hugged Yin Yue tightly as she was overwhelmed by sadness. "Miss has become so thin. From now on this Zhu Li is going to take care of our miss" she continued without stopping. Even Yin Yue couldn't tell a word. "Are you going to make our miss stand here for the rest of the day? “therefore finally Wang Wei asked Zhu Li. "I am so sorry miss, I am so happy to see you. That is why…please come this way" finally she stopped her grievance
"Miss is not strong enough yet to use a real sword. Let's practice the basic sword techniques with this wooden sword" Wang Wei explained. But looking at her curious glance he understood that what she was asking about is the surprise he mentioned. With a smile he replied, " for the surprise miss has to wait until we finish our training" Then they started their first day of training sword technics. Yin Yue was so excited to start practicing sword technics. She knew that her father was famous not only for being "The general with highest achievements in the Qing empire" but also for his exceptional sword-man ship. After practicing for another two-three hours, they concluded their training session earlier than other days. "Now let's go to see the surprise I prepared" Wang Wei suggested and Yin Yue agreed without hesitation. They took a different path than their usual path which was leading to another side of the city. Yin Yue didn't have much memory of this side of the city because sh
Then they left the grave. Sun Wu and Xiao Lu who would be remaining in the capital were asked to make a proper tombstone for Lady's tomb when they have a time. After that, Wang Wei decided to have a look at the Jiang Lin manor and all of them walked silently to the direction of Jiang Lin manor. When they reached, they saw there were two guards in-front of the front gate. But because they were much more familiar with every inch of that household, they could enter the house premises, closing the guards' eyes. They walked around silently beholding the changes in the house. Once a house which was very glamorous looking and lively had become gloomy and abandoned. There was no any light inside the house. Even the trees, plants and everything in the surrounding seemed withered. Zhu Li was really heart-broken for her lady. She knew how much her lady cared about the maintenance of the household. She cared and loved everyone and everything in her house. Even the trees and plants in the court
Everyone looked at her and nodded with agreement. Four of them there were ready to do anything for their late master because except for being their late master, every one of them had a different reason to respect him. They continued their discussion. At the end of the discussion, two body guards who were still recovering were assigned to stay at the capital. One of them who is named as Sun Wu had a cousin brother who was a merchant. He had few shops in the capital, an inn and he had many contacts with different people. Sun Wu had a good relationship with him. Therefore Wu was assigned to go to his cousin brother and join his business. He was supposed to help building up the economic power of the team. The other bodyguard Xiao Lu was assigned to enter the General Huang Song's personal guard team by any possible means and he was supposed to spy on General's every action. Both of them agreed with their tasks. As for Zhu Li, Wang Wei thought of making her a female spy at general Huang S
After hearing that, the people outside the carriage could see the curtains of the carriage's window were pulled to a side and an extremely beautiful, elegant face of a lady appeared there. Her long beautiful eyes were piercing through the crowd and stopped at the pitiful looking girl who was dragged away by a group of people. She thought for a moment and gave some orders to one of her servants. He reached the passing crowd and gave his lady's order to those group of people. That order made them surprised yet they didn't dare to ignore it when they get to know the identity of that lady. She was Lady Jiang Lin, the wife of General Jiang Lin, a well-known general throughout the entire Qing empire. They came in front of the carriage with the girl. Then the lady asked them the reason for dragging away the girl by force. "Answering my lady, she is our master's would-be-wife. We were escorting her to our mas
