As they walked away from the pond, her sneakers hit a stone, and she felt herself going down. Time slowed, and she was sure that she was going to face-plant, but then Cole's hand shot out and grasped her elbow, pulling her upright.

Their faces were inches apart, their eyes locked in a way that made her heart skip a beat. She felt like she was drowning in the depths of his gaze, like she was melting into him. It was like the whole world had come to a standstill, leaving only the two of them, suspended at this moment.

And then, out of nowhere, Sean's fist connected with Cole's jaw, sending him stumbling backward. Camille felt a surge of fear mixed with shock as she turned to face Sean, his eyes blazing with a fury that made her blood run cold.

“Stay away from her,” Sean growled, his voice low and menacing.

Cole rubbed his jaw, his eyes flashing with anger, but his voice was even. “Sean, calm down, man.”
