Chapter 1

"Breaking News: Lockhart Group CEO's Ex-Wife Andrea Walker Died Not of Childbirth but Murder."

"A Battle of the Elites: Xavier Lockhart's Current Wife Murdered Ex-Wife to Replace Her."

"The Walkers Point to Jamie Norman as Andrea Walker's Murderer."

Jamie Norman was already seven months pregnant when she saw the news.

The Walkers surrounded her villa, demanding that she face retribution for what she did to Andrea Walker. Meanwhile, hordes of reporters and paparazzi waited around the area for their big scoop, wanting to be the first to release whatever juicy incidents would happen next.

"It wasn't me! I didn't… I never… I called her!" Jamie cried, covering her head with her hands as she curled up in a corner and shivered in fright.

She was so terrified that she suddenly felt a warm, sticky liquid flowing out from her lower body. At once, her face turned deathly pale as well.

"Mrs. Lockhart, I'll call the ambulance right away!" Gary Hunter, the butler, cried out as he rushed over to her.

Jamie looked down and saw that the white dress she'd been wearing was now stained a bright red. The blood just wouldn't stop pouring out from her like a broken dam.

Her breathing began to turn ragged.

"I… I need to find Xavier…" Jamie said with much difficulty.

As soon as the last sentence was out of her mouth, the door to the villa opened, and Xavier Lockhart's silhouette appeared right before Jamie.

Xavier, dressed in a smart, tailored suit, walked up to Jamie and looked down at her on the ground.

"Xavier, you're back… It hurts…" Jamie cried out shakily. With bloodied hands, she tried to grab Xavier's arm.

"Send me to the hospital… The baby… The baby…" she choked, looking at Xavier anxiously.

However, Xavier just slowly pried her hands off his arm.

Jamie was shocked. "Xavier…"

She could feel the blood pooling around her, and the baby in her womb was also struggling to survive.

"You want to go to the hospital?" Xavier asked, half-crouching and grabbing Jamie by her chin.

Jamie nodded passively. Of course, she wanted to go to the hospital! If she continued waiting around, then both she and her baby would lose their lives!

Xavier suddenly chuckled very lightly. The smile on his face was creepy and unnerving for Jamie.

However, she couldn't be bothered about it anymore. "Please, send me to the hospital… The baby… The baby is dying…"

She knew her baby better than anyone else in the world. She knew that it was crying and begging for help.

"What did you do when Andrea also begged you like this a year ago?" Xavier asked Jamie, making sure to accentuate each word.

Jamie just looked at Xavier in shock.

A dark, cruel look suddenly appeared on Xavier's face. He gripped Jamie's chin even harder, making her squeal in pain.

"You just watched her bleed to her death! Both Andrea and her baby died because of you," Xavier said, letting out a cold laugh. "You're now just experiencing what she went through that time."

Jamie couldn't believe her ears when she heard what he said.

Xavier then stood up and took a step back. His clothes were stained with Jamie's blood, but some of them had already dried out.

Still, he had no intention of helping her. He just stood there and watched as more and more blood poured out from Jamie's lower body. There was no way of stopping the bleeding anymore.

The baby was still struggling in the womb. However, as time eventually passed, the baby stopped struggling and went completely quiet.

Jamie looked at Xavier with a desolate expression on her face. She asked him sorrowfully, "Xavier Lockhart! You never loved me, did you? You've only loved Andrea Walker. You only married me to avenge her! Is that so?"

"Yes," Xavier answered without hesitation, destroying the last of Jamie's hope.

She chuckled bitterly. "I'd been wrong all along. I never should have fallen in love with you. I never should have forced our marriage. If there's an undo button in life, I wish I'd never met you. Then, I'd never have to let so many people down."

As soon as she was done talking, Jamie breathed her last.

However, just as she closed her eyes, the doors to the villa burst open.

A couple from the Jackson family, who came from Somerton, appeared before Xavier.

"Xavier Lockhart! Jamie Norman is the Jacksons' precious little princess! But with how she ended up now like this, I hereby swear that the Jacksons will forever view you as our sworn enemies!" the man roared, his fierce voice echoing throughout the villa.

It was dark, scary, and threatening.

The Bay Heights apartments were located in Asteria.

Somewhere in one of the units, a young woman's slender arms wrapped around the man's neck. Her lips parted slightly in a yawn as she lay in bed in the master bedroom.

Jamie hummed and then moaned in a low tone as she panted softly. "It's so hot…"

The drug effects were taking over her senses. Jamie's vision was starting to turn blurry. Her palms were sweaty as she grabbed onto Xavier's collar, leaning in for a kiss.

Her desperation seemed rather amusing as she roughly tugged Xavier's belt off with too much force. Then, her hands wandered down his body, which was cool and pleasing to the touch. She couldn't help sighing in delight.

Jamie cast another vague look at the man before her, who was dressed in a fine-tailored suit. His facial features were strong and prominent, somehow making him look noble yet unapproachable. His deep eyes swirled with a dark and conflicted expression.

"Uncle Xav!" Jamie exclaimed, shuddering all of a sudden and waking up from her daze almost at once. The effects of the drug seemed to dissipate suddenly.

Her eyes were filled with terror, her mind constantly replaying the bloody scene in her head. Meanwhile, Xavier looked exhausted and tired out from a red-eye flight. He just stared at her solemnly.

"D-Don't watch me die… I was wrong! I won't do it again!" Jamie exclaimed, her voice laced with terror.

She wouldn't seduce Xavier again, or break up his marriage, or let Andrea die with her baby still in her belly.

Suddenly, shadows appeared in Jamie's wide eyes. She snapped out of it and calmed down, looking around at her surroundings.

She was in her room.

She then glanced at the glass windows and caught sight of her face. She was still looking young, fresh, and without any of the ageing wrinkles on her face. She also didn't look like she'd been through any trials or tribulations of life.

What just happened? Had she gone back in time or been reborn?

Jamie subconsciously reached for her arm and gave herself a massive pinch. At once, she felt the pain and knew that she wasn't dreaming anymore. Whatever she was going through was real.

She had somehow been given a second chance at life and returned to when she was only 18 years old. She still had time to salvage things at this point of time.

She had been drugged by Andrea. That was the only reason why she'd lost her mind and seduced Xavier, confessing all of her feelings for him. However, Jamie didn't manage to get her way because Xavier got the doctor to administer the antidote.

From that day onward, there had been an unspeakable tension in their relationship.

Meanwhile, Jamie's reaction prompted Xavier to grab hold of her hands without thinking. "Calm down, Jamie."

Jamie instinctively apologized when Xavier caught her hands. "I'm sorry, Uncle Xav. I was wrong. Please, please forgive me…"

Jamie was terrified. She was very much afraid of the bloody, cruel revenge Xavier would soon get on her.

"Please let me go, I promise I'll leave! Please, I'm begging you," Jamie exclaimed. "I won't disturb you anymore! I won't get in the way of your wedding! I won't say I like you anymore…"

She was still fighting the effects of the drug. It was excruciatingly painful on her body. However, Jamie forced herself to bear with it. She was simply too afraid.

Jamie's sudden change in behavior seemed to have stunned Xavier. He narrowed his eyes and went silent for a short while.

Their gazes then met shortly.

"I'll get the doctor to give you the antidote," Xavier said emotionlessly.

A while later, the doctor approached her and inserted a needle skillfully into Jamie's veins.

Gradually, Jamie stopped struggling and resisting, and collapsed into Xavier's arms like jelly.

Even while passing out, Jamie could still see her blood everywhere in her mind.

Xavier observed quietly the way Jamie reacted to his presence. However, his emotions didn't flicker."Are you behaving like this because of your upcoming SATs? Is it because of the stress?" Xavier asked in a low voice. "Is that why you're thinking all sorts of nonsense?"Xavier neatly avoided talking about what happened before this. Instead, he thought of another possible reason Jamie might have acted like that."Jamie, if the SATs are giving you too much pressure, I can always send you abroad anytime," Xavier said faintly. "I'll send you to the best college abroad. You'll be able to graduate as long as you show up for your classes."Xavier had already planned out Jamie's future for her.He was going to marry Andrea soon. You know you need the money, so why are you still pretending to be so generous?" Jamie muttered under her breath. She quickly sent Alvin another message."How could you cancel the transaction and refuse to take my lunch money after getting my number? Does this mean you actually want me to show up at your place with the cash? I may consider that."Alvin still never replied to her messages.Jamie refused to give up. She sent him another one after that."Fine. I'm going to your dorm now. I'll be waiting downstairs."This time, Jamie realized that her message had never been sent. The blue ticks never appeared. After all, he only provided her with the best of everything there was to offer.Of course, Andrea knew it as well, and she would make sure everything was immaculate."Thank you, Aunt Andrea. Can I get a dress from Chanel's designer, please?" Jamie asked, throwing Andrea a wide, innocent grin."Sure," Andrea said with a nod. That request was nothing compared to learning that Jamie indeed harbored no romantic feelings for Xavier.Jamie just grinned even wider at Andrea in return. However, she cautiously glanced at the black Bentley behind them. Was Xavier not here? Had Andrea come alone? From what Jamie could remember, Xavier would never let Andrea come looking for her on her own. But now? After going quiet for a bit, Jamie decided to ask. How else would you know that I had a driver?""The car's just too showy. I can't ignore it if I wanted to," Alvin answered faintly.Jamie hummed. "Well, I no longer have anything to show. I don't have a driver anymore."Alvin narrowed his eyes slightly. He didn't quite understand what Jamie was implying."I'm an orphan. My parents died when I was five years old. One of my father's friends has been caring for me since then. However, that's not my home. I'm an adult now, so my uncle doesn't have to keep tabs on me anymore," Jamie explained lightly.Alvin was shocked. Before he could say anything, Jamie continued, "Also, I've been living by myself for nearly half a year. The music was still playing in the practice room, making both Jamie and Alvin miss the sound of footsteps coming from the corridor outside.…The college dean, John Crawford, and architecture faculty dean, Peter Holt, struggled to keep up with Xavier's walking pace.Every year, Lockhart Group would offer internships to a group of top-performing students from Aster College, and many of the interns would then continue working long-term with the company afterward.Xavier himself was considered a genius in the business industry, so he had always been invited over to Aster College to give talks. Usually, he would reject those invitations, and everyone was used to his rejections. This year, however, Xavier had agreed to give the talk. Then, I'll be practicing. You can just stay there and watch."Alvin hummed in acknowledgement. He continued standing in place as his eyes followed Jamie around the practice room. Probably because there was nobody else in the room besides them both—the look in Alvin's eyes was less restrained and a little more greedy today. Still, the look only appeared for a brief moment, so Jamie never caught sight of it.Jamie coughed slightly and went back to the sound system to replay the song. "Mr. Lockhart, the dean of Aster College is inviting you over so that they may recommend their top students to intern at Lockhart Group. They'd also like to invite you to give a talk."The Dean of Aster College, John Crawford, had quite an amicable relationship with the Lockharts. Naturally, Xavier would hear them out if he received any requests from them. That was why Andrew told Xavier about the invitation right away to get his opinion on it."When?" Xavier asked, his voice low and deep."Mr. Crawford said that you could go over anytime you're available," said Andrew."Then I'm going there now," Xavier replied straight away. Since it was a ballet performance, I just came back to get my costumes and shoes."Jamie explained everything as quickly as she could."When is it?" Xavier asked calmly."Three days from today," she replied.Xavier hummed, still as calmly as ever.
