CHAPTER 55

Attacked

Bertha was afraid that she would be deceived and return only to be abandoned again. As much as her love for him had grown cold, it seems she was still somewhat happy to see him. Bertha had congratulated herself for not letting anything show while he was around. Now she was barely holding it in.

Bertha wondered what he was doing here? He leaned on the wall, staring at her. Even a person with half a brain will be able to tell that he was waiting for her.

She noticed the person beside him, the friend he had arrived with, and decided to pretend he was not here for her and walked away. But just when she was about to walk past him, he stepped forward to block her path.

“Bertha,” he said.

“Mr. Grey,” she answered, “I thought you had left. Is something the matter? Are you waiting for someone?” she asked.

“I am waiting for you,” he answered. Bertha was quite taken aback by his soft voice. She had never heard him talk to her this way before.
