Chapter 5

Alexander’ McGuire ~

The loud thunderous noise coming from the sky made me wake up from my sleep, I glanced by the window and saw that it was raining heavily, I got off the bed and walked towards the window that was open, I tried pulling the double shield down but the something caught my eye...I couldn’t make up what it was as it was extremely difficult to see what it was, I strained my eyes to see what was and suddenly paused on seeing what it was. A stray puppy.

I ran to my coat stakings and wore my rain coat, No puppy should be caught in this rain. I ran downstairs and opened the front door, “Mr McGuire! Mr McGuire!” I heard my house help Hannah yell and I groan, i ran out and opened the gate even with the rain still banging hard. Well somebody must have offended God.

I looked around and saw the puppy shivering crazily behind the trash can, I walked closer to it and bent down, Of course it was scared of me but I didn’t have the time to coax it into believing me so

I just scooped it, ignoring the whimpers and cry, I ran back to the gate and this time my gateman was awake “Sir!” He called out and I glanced at him, he looked at the puppy in my arms and shook his head “You went out to save the puppy?” He asked and I smiled even though it was freezing “Lock the gates.”

I told him and walked up stairs into the house, I could see Mrs Hannah pacing around the house worriedly “Mr McGuire! You scared me tremendously!” She shrieked and I chuckled “You choose to be scared, I only went out of thing little guy.” I say and looked down at the puppy whimpering in my arms “Can you please get-“ “A humidifier, a bowl of warm water and a warm wrap, got it.” She listed out and made him chuckle.  She walked off while I placed the puppy on a couch, I pulled off the raincoat and shivered internally from being in the rain. I looked at the puppy that had retreated in it’s shell and smiled, Hannah came back with everything I asked her. I carried the puppy and placed it against the pet bed i owned. I put the humidifier beside the cold puppy and wrapped it up with the warm wrap. “You have to stop doing this Mr. McGuire.” Hannah says and I looked at her “Don”t start Hannah.” I said and looked at the puppy that was warming up, I stood up and looked outside at the crazy rain “Can you please prepare hot tea for me?” I asked and she nodded solemnly and walked off.

A sigh escaped my lips as I walked towards the window, I once had a dog Jax, I have had him ever since mom died when I was twelve years old but one day, he also died!  Jax was more than my best friend but then again, nothing is permanent. Ever since Jax’s death I have rescued all kind of dogs that I could but just like Jax, they all left. “Here is your tea.” Hannah hands me the tea. I turn to collect it from her “What are you going to do with the pup?” She asked and I shrugged “It’s a stray dog, I will wait till it gets better and see what happens next.” I said and she smiled. “You should go to bed now Hannah, You shouldn’t be deprived of your sleep.” I said. “Very well sir, Please have a goodnight.” She said and I smiled “Goodnight Hannah.”

I looked at the puppy that had fallen asleep almost immediately, It was a brown toy poodle, so small yet so cute. A faint smile appeared on my face, I picked the pet bed and everything thing with it, I walked upstairs to my room and placed the bed on the floor, I sat on my bed and sighed as I stared at the puppy. I laid on the bed and covered myself with the duvet.

The next day I woke up and sat up on the bed, my phone started to ring and I picked it seeing that it was my father calling. “Dad.” I called out to him “Alex, how are you doing?” He asked and I smiled, he seemed the happiest since mom’s death and I was happy for him. Growing up I used to think that her death didn’t affect him since he never showed any emotions after hearing of her death, I hated him for not caring but one day, years after mol had died and I was nearly done with college. I got home and saw my unbreakable Dad weep uncontrollably, in his hands was mom’s picture. Mom was my best friend but I forgot that she was also his best friend.

“I’m fine Dad, How are you living your best life in NewZealand”

“Get me a cup of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.” I heard him say over the phone and smiled “I can see you are having the time of your life, Dad.” I said and heard him chuckle  “Yes, son..” he said and went silent over the phone “I will call you back, I have to go.” He said and cut the call immediately.

I smiled and got off the bed, I looked straight at the pet bed and saw the puppy still laying there, “Good morning little guy.” I whispered and stroke it’s ear, I tried to look for a name tag but it didn’t have any. I could tell that the puppy needed a vet doctor. I stood up and walked to my bathroom, stripping off my clothes and stepped into the shower. I finished with my bath and walked to my closet, I could see the puppy’s eyes follow me about and I smiled. I picked out my French navy blue suit and a pair of derby shoes. I combed my brown hair back and knotted my tie. I looked at the mirror and smiled in satisfaction, My name is Alexander McGuire, 27 years of age and the only child of my parents. President of the Ashford Group of companies. My father founded the company but he retired years back once I got the hang of running things, The company wasn’t based on just one thing, We were diverse in different things, our branches were all over the globe with thousands of employees on the pay roll. I am the youngest billionaire in the world but I never put myself in limelight except it was extremely important that I did, hardly would you find a picture of me on the internet, I made sure to have my father attend all the social events as I am not interested in all of that. I sighed and walked back into the room, using my cologne and picked my phone. I glanced at the puppy and carried it in my arms, walking downstairs where I saw Hannah cleaning “Good morning Mr McGuire.” She greeted and i greeted her back. “I am going to work now, Can you call the vet doctor and have him check on this little guy.” I said placed the puppy on the couch bed “Here, please look after him.” I said and patted the puppy. “have nice day Mr McGuire.” She said.

I walked out of the house and hopped into my car, My driver had taken a leave after getting married and i was happy for him, I turned on the Ignition of the car and drove away towards the company.

A while later I arrived at the company and got down from the car, giving my car keys to a guard and walked into the extremely large establishment. I replied all the greetings I was getting and took the escalator up to my floor. I had fired my personal assistant after he was caught with the company’s fund. How shallow can some people be! I walked straight to my office and took a seat on the chair, I needed an assistant as soon as possible. A sigh escaped my lips as I looked at the pile of work on my table. My mind travelled back in time when I went to that club, just to wind away and relax but then my eyes caught someone, A lady with bright hazel eyes and long full brown hair, her full plump pink lips drew me in. I couldn’t remember much from the night as I was drunk but her face was forever stamped and stapled in my heart. Her beauty was unique, She looked like a fairy but a fairy with an extremely sharp tongue. A knock on the door jolted me back to reality and I shook my head. There was no need thinking about the past, she left even before i woke up.

“Come in.” I called at the door and Peter walk in “Good morning sir, The applicants are here for the interview.” He said and I raised my eyebrows “Applicants? Interview?” I was more than confused. “You asked to look for another assistant for you and we scheduled an interview for today.” He said and I groaned internally. “Fine, Give me a few minutes.” I said and watched him walk out.

Well I better get ready for the interview.
