Chapter 3

FAMILY AFFAIRS

...Lucas...

The loud knock on my door forced me to open my eyes as a wave of anger washed over me, I had spent the night shift at the hospital and only got home in the early hours, it couldn't possibly be more than two hours since I fell asleep,

I forced myself out of bed running my hand in my hair, who ever was at the door, it better be important otherwise I would lose it. upon opening the door, I was surprised to find Grace,

"What are you doing here?" I asked as I looked at my wrist watch, wasn't she supposed to be at school?

"I don't have any morning class, I was wondering if we could talk" she said as she wrapped her arms around me but I quickly pushed her off and rushed to lock the door,

"What the hell do you think you are doing?, what if someone sees us?" I asked irritated,

"Everyone is out except grandpa who is in his room. I feel like you have been ignoring me Lucas, you barely spend a night with me unlike before, you don't even text as much anymore, don't you have feelings for me anymore?" She asked, I knew starting a relationship with Grace was a bad idea but at the time, I was desperate, I still was but I couldn't afford her having doubts about my intentions towards her

"How can I easily stop having feelings for you?" I covered the distance between us by pulling her towards me,

"I know I have been a little distant but that's only because I have been busy at the hospital and about sneaking into your room, am afraid we might get caught and we both know the kind of trouble that would put us in" 

"I know, I just miss being with you and besides,,," before Grace could complete her sentence, the door nab turned indicating someone tried to open the door,

I immediately let go of Grace my eyes fixed on the door, 

"Who is it?" I asked,

"Lucas, its me, open the door", I turned to look at Grace with a questionable look, what the hell was wrong with her?, she lied about everyone else being out, I couldn't help wondering what would have happened had I not locked the door, 

I opened the door and Diana entered the room,

"Mom, do you need something?" I asked, Diana looked at me then at Grace before turning to me again,

"Why was the door locked?" She asked, 'shit' I inwardly cursed

"Why did you straight up try to open the door without knocking?, I mean you could have found Lucas naked for all we know" Grace asked with raised eyebrows, Even though I was irritated with her for disturbing my much needed sleep, I was glad she knew how to attack Diana

"I was in a rush, I didn't think I would find him naked this time of the morning" Diana replied, I cleared my throat before the two started asking each other more questions,

"Do you need something?" I asked,

"Ah yes, we are having a meeting today at the Hospital, you should be there" she said, I knew that wasn't the reason she was here, I was already aware of the meeting and if she wanted to remind me, she would have simply called or texted me,

"I will be there, almost forgot about it, thanks for reminding me" I said looking at her knowingly,

"Good, I will take my leave now" she said and walked out of the room, Grace followed after her and locked the door again,

"See, this is the reason why you can't just come in here, imagine what would have happened if I had not locked the door. I have told you this before Grace, Even though we are both in love with each other, we have to be very careful, if anyone finds out about us, we are as good as dead" I didn't know how many more times I had to tell her we had to be careful,

"Well, we will need to tell them about us eventually, especially now"

"Especially now?" I asked with raised eyebrows,

"Yes, I told you I wanted to talk you about something, well, am pregnant, two months gone, we are expecting a baby Lucas" I stared at Grace eyes wide, I knew she was going to get pregnant as I had planned this all along, however, she didn't know this so I had to act surprised

"You are pregnant?" I asked putting out a shocked expression

"Yes, I don't know how this happened, I mean we have always been careful. I honestly don't know what to do, its either we tell our family we are together or I can have an abortion", An abortion?, absolutely not, that would ruin my perfect laid out plans but telling our family was also out of question, at least for now

"Baby, Hearing that am going to be a Dad is the best thing that has ever happened to me, I couldn't love you more than this" I said holding her by her waist

"But we can't tell them yet, they won't understand, they might even disown us" I continued

"Why would they, its not like you are my blood brother or something" I knew convincing her otherwise was going to be difficult, one thing I hated about Grace was how stubborn she was

"We share the same father Grace, tell me thats not insane, I mean we practically have the same blood in our veins"

"Well you should have thought about that before sleeping with me" I could see that she was getting upset,

"You know I couldn't help it, I have been in love with you for so long, it doesn't matter that we have the same father, you are the love of my life", my words seemed to calm her as she smiled, I must admit even I was impressed with my acting skills sometimes, perhaps if I wasn't part of this family that forced all of us to become Doctors, I would have been a famous Actor

"I love you too Lucas, we have to decide on what to do, if you want to keep this baby then fine but we have to find a way through this before everyone Especially mom finds out am pregnant" she said

"I know", I pulled her in for a hug. Things were moving smoothly now all I had to do was convince her to be patient until the right time came...
