Miranda sat in the back seat of the taxi alone as it drove toward the local town and out of the city center.

Her phone buzzed with an incoming call, and she realized it was Larry.

"Hello, babe," Miranda said, and the taxi driver wasn't interested in who she was speaking to; he kept his focus on the road.

"Where are you now, babe? I'm done dressing up and coming over to pick you up. I’d like for us to hang out together and not let whatever my parents' said deter our relationship. We have been together for five years, and my family's opinion wouldn't affect how much I love you."

Larry's words softened Miranda's heart, and she sighed again.

"I understand, Larry. But I have already gone home. Oliver refused to come with me, so I was left with no choice but to leave him behind with Derrick since my son wants to be with him so much."

There was silence on the phone before Larry said, "Did you speak with Derrick about signing the child's custody agreement?"
