A Mission To Happily Ever After

"I just arrived here and will go for a patrol when I drop my stuff,"

Liam said to his superior on the phone, he checked his watch it was almost seven pm, he didn't get here on time because of a delay.

"Remember not to act on your own, you are there for investigation not to execute anything, make sure to take care of yourself and report to the headquarters if anything goes out of hand, don't make any rash decision,"

His superior continued.

"Yes, sir,"

"Good, now get enough information and come back soon so we can have a drink or two, I have to go now Emily wants daddy to sing her to sleep,"

"Okay, sir,"

"And Liam, remember your parents and sister will kill me if anything happens to you so please don't do anything stupid,"

Liam took a deep breath before he answered.

"Yes, I won't,"

"Good,"

He said and the call ended, Mark wasn't just his boss but also his brother in law, he married his older sister and when he had offered him the job six months ago after he was discharged from the military, his parent had been livid, it almost caused an issue between his older sister and Mark but he had stood his ground, his parents wanted him to go into business which he wasn't ready for, he wanted a life were he could make his own decision not being a puppet under his parent which is why he joined the military at a young age, but he was discharged earlier than he anticipated at just the age of twenty-eight after serving for ten years, his discharged had been one of the most heartbreaking moments of his life but the Army had deed him unfit to continue after a traumatic experience, all effort on his side to let them know he is fine had not yielded any positive result, he was sure his parents had a hand in it too.

They never wanted him to go into the military and had even threatened to disown him but that still didn't make him change his mind, he had lived under their shadow for a long time, being the last child and the only male child of five children made them extra protective of him and he hadn't liked it.

Shaking off thoughts of his home, he made his way into the apartment where he would be staying for the whole month he would be here at Cacko island, he had rented the apartment a week ago and had made sure it was stocked with everything he need including a power generator, the apartment wasn't huge but it was just what he needed.

Mark who also was a military man with more year's of experience had set up an agency where they worked as spies, investigators, and agents. they gather enough evidence to indicate a suspected person or an organization and send to the authorities, Liam had found it intriguing and he didn't think twice when Mark had offered him the job, of course, it took six months before Mark allowed him on any investigative trip and this was his first that he is doing alone, he planned on making it successful.

Having dropped his bags off, he got off the apartment and decided to get a grab of his environment, he looked around but his neighbors were maybe out of town or still at work, the whole place quiet.

The island was a beautiful place, from a distance it was just a small meter surrounded by waters, but when you land on it, it was actually bigger than it looks, he had to board a ferry to get here, and it took over four hours on the ferry ride and the ferry only comes twice a week. Cacko was a little far from civilization and lacked a whole lot of common things, power supply was not regular and things like health care were on the lowest minimal, he found all these details while making his inquiries about the island.

From his findings island was mostly dominated by women and children, it only began to draw attention to itself last year, when a group of teenagers entering the city from here was caught with drugs, and a huge sum of money, the authorities didn't disclose what the suspects said but whatever they said was enough to put the Island under investigation

Cacko looks like any other island but yet its inhabitants were mostly drug dealers and gamblers, from the outside eye it didn't look that way. they got the job to investigate it two months ago and they had been working in silence since then, until last week when they had gotten information that there might be a major drift of illegal drugs within the next couple of weeks, his job here was simple, get juicy information on when and how they plan on moving.

He checked the time and it was a few minutes past seven, it was already getting dark but he didn't mind, bringing out his phone he walked out through the gate, the gate was more or less a play cuz there was no security man and the gate was not locked, but still, the apartment was pretty decent compared to the other parts of the island.

He walked down the part, he made his way towards the part where a few people were gathered, he was about to make a turn when his phone was suddenly snatched from his hands, it took a moment for him to react, and he ran towards the boy who was splitting fast into the darker side of the island.

"What the fuck? Come back here you thief,"

He shouted at the lanky-looking lad, he couldn't lose his phone, no, it had a lot of information that are not yet saved in his system. The lad suddenly made a turn and he had to backstep a little to keep himself on track.

"If I catch you, you wouldn't like me,"

He shouted, already running out of breath but he trained in the military and served for ten years so this was pretty much easy, maybe not because the thief was getting away, blaming his tiredness, he increased his speed but the lad seemed to run faster.

"Fuck!! Give me back my phone,"

He screamed running faster, the lad turned around and gave him a mocking smile, just when a lady sidetracked him and he fell, she collected his phone from him.

The lad looked on in shock before getting up and running into the night.

He stopped to catch his breath walking towards the lady who handed his phone back to him, she was wearing a mask so he couldn't make out her appearance under the mask and her bangs didn't help either, who wears a mask, have a bang and also wears an eyeglass, her face was practically covered.

"Are you new here? You should keep your properties well, or they will get taken, this is not a place where you hold things lightly, you might not be lucky next time,"

She said walking away from him, not even waiting for a thank you.

"Thank you,"

He called after her but she was already gone, he gave up on the walk and decided it would be best to continue in the light of day, he made his way back down the part he came from.

He wondered who the woman was, and hoped she would be wearing the same glasses and bangs when he meets her again so that he can recognize her and thank her properly.

She looked like a city person though, with her dressing and the bag she had been holding, maybe she came to the island for business, wait, could she be? no, there was no way she would be a drug dealer, he thought dismissing the image, she didn't look like a criminal, whoever she was he hoped he will meet her again.

Entering his room, he went straight to his laptop and logged in making sure to transfer all vital information from his phone to his laptop, he made a copy of it on his drive, after which he plugged his phone and laptop since there was light. he took a cold bath, and went to bed without eating, his mom would nag him if she finds out he was skipping food, he was tired as fuck and fell asleep as soon as he hit the bed.

He was woken by the sound of someone knocking at his door, he checked his time and it was way past one am, wondering who it was, he got up from bed but when he got there, no one was at the door, he came out and looked around but no one was in sight, the light on the other apartments was out, he wondered if he had dreamt it, going back in, he made sure the door was locked properly before going back to bed.
