Chapter 3

Half a month later, Dominic finally returned to the home he and I lived in. He flung the door open violently while yelling, "Ophelia, get out here right now!"

He kicked down door after door, yet he could never find any traces of me in the house. This caused his dark expression to darken even more.

Dominic ordered his subordinates to track me down. After that, he murmured darkly, "Oh, Ophelia. Since you want to run away that badly, you'd better escape as far as you can from me! Otherwise, I'll definitely break your legs once I get my hands on you!"

The thing was, I was standing right in front of him.

Soon, one of his subordinates sent a set of coordinates to Dominic's phone. Dominic's expression gradually became more twisted.

I looked at his phone in confusion and soon recognized the location pinpointed by the coordinates. It was my childhood friend, Adrian Prince's home.

"Mr. Sharp, Mrs. Sharp was last seen contacting Mr. Prince. But Mr. Prince claims to never have met her. We suspect he has abducted Mrs. Sharp."

Dominic said coldly, "Wait for my arrival."

After that, he sped all the way to Adrian's house. He started kicking the front door, and his expression was tense.

The door didn't budge after the first two kicks. When Dominic kicked the door for the third time, it was opened from the inside.

Adrian's calm visage came into Dominic's view. There were dark circles under his eyes, though.

"What is it?"

Dominic just chuckled icily. "You're hiding my wife. What do you think I'm here for?"

Adrian remained impassive, as though he had nothing else to live for in this world. "I didn't hide her. She's already dead. Didn't the crematorium inform you to pick up her ashes?"

"Oh? Ophelia asked you to put on a performance as well? Hah! It seems that she's bent on hiding from me this time!"

Dominic refused to believe that I was dead. He stubbornly thought that this was one of my tricks.

He raised his head to look into the house. Then, he yelled, "Ophelia, don't think you can avoid showing up on my mother's death anniversary just because Adrian is here to protect you! I'm going to count to three! If you don't come out right now, you'd better not cry about how ruthless I am later!

"One… Two… Three!"

The moment Dominic was done counting, he aimed a brutal kick at Adrian instantly. He then ordered his subordinates to file into Adrian's house and look for me.

Adrian collapsed to the floor upon receiving the kick in the gut. A hint of anger marred his mask of tranquility.

"Dominic, Ophelia is already dead! You were the one who picked up her ashes with your own hands! Have you forgotten about that? She's dead! In fact, she's been dead for several days!"

The furious Adrian grabbed Dominic by the collar and pinned him against the wall.

Dominic still wore a stormy look. He retorted mockingly, "I can't believe you're still trying to keep her hidden at this time! Adrian, it seems that your love for her knows no bounds! It's just a shame that I've toyed around with her so much to the point she's all saggy and loose!

"I suppose when I'm tired of her, I can consider giving her to you if you're still in love with her at that time. But I can't let you have her now. She still has to grovel before my mother's grave and atone for her sins, so she can't keep you company."

Adrian's face turned so red that it even extended all the way to his neck. He clutched Dominic's collar with all his might as he gritted out, "Dominic Sharp, how dare you!"

Suddenly, he punched Dominic in the face, causing the latter to let out a pained grunt.

Almost immediately, both of them started trading blows and kicks. Soon, they were entangled in a violent brawl.

Someone had told me in the past that souls wouldn't feel a single thing after they died. But for some reason, my heart felt very stuffy, as though it was about to explode from the inside.

Although Adrian worked out regularly, Dominic was well-trained in close combat. In just a few rounds, Adrian got pinned down on the floor. There were fresh bruises blossoming on his face as well.

Anxiety took over my senses, yet there was nothing I could do.

"Adrian, just look at how pathetic you are! To think that you'd risk getting beaten to death by me for Ophelia's sake! But what about her, huh? She's just enjoying your protection and taking it for granted! How can a woman like her deserve your love?"

This time, Adrian was the one who scoffed mockingly. "Dominic, you're the pathetic one here. After all, you got the identity of your mother's murderer wrong. Not to mention, you're cruel enough to hurt the woman you love. You're even more pathetic than the homeless people on the streets."

"What did you just say?" Dominic raised his fist coldly.

At that moment, another voice cut into their conversation anxiously. "Mr. Sharp, we found the surveillance footage of Mrs. Sharp's car accident! We also found her… her autopsy report!"
