“ Gosh! I hate him so much, he's so heartless” Maya announced to her friend who was typing away furiously on her computer. Maya had gone to see Zara as soon as she left the office, with a heavy heart she had immediately complained about her boss to her.
“ It's not his fault, Maya” Zara turned to her with a smile on her face before turning back to her computer. She was trying to create content that will draw traffic to her website.
“ Whose fault is it?” Maya exclaimed glaring at her friend who was taking Liam's side instead of hers.
“ Babe, this is business. And in business, no one wants to lose out. Everyone's eyes are on the big prize which is the profit. So, don't blame him, no one wants to work without making a profit, or do you?”
“ But not everything is about money, once in a while we should always thrive to do good to others. Losing a few million won't hurt him” Maya protested angrily banging her fists on the table.
“ Not millions, Maya. It's Billions of dollars, the man is stinkingly rich” Zara told her as she stood up and went to the kitchen to get Maya something to drink. She knew never to argue with Maya Banks as she doesn't back down from a challenge.
Maya glared at her friend's retreating back, she couldn't help but feel jealous that her friend was taking Liam's side just because he was rich. What kind of a friend was she? Maya wondered in her mind.
“ Here, have this, I'm sure it would calm your anger” Zara smiled as she handed Maya a glass of chilled cola drink. Maya collected it from her and sipped it.
“ That reminds me, how's your blog going? Are you able to bring back your readers?” Maya asked her. She was guilty that she didn't give Zara her attention instead she was arguing with her about that heartless man.
“ Same old, same old. I'm getting frustrated with it” Zara sighed heavily as she abandoned the computer and turned to rest her back against the chair with her hands folded across her chest, she stared at her friend.
“ So tell me, how's your search going with finding, Mr. Handsome?” Zara asked her, she remembers Maya telling her about her mom wanting her to get together with Mrs. Blake's son.
“ Don't even go there. Who told you I'm looking for anybody. No, thank you, I'm comfortable being married to my work” Maya replied shrugging. She was an independent woman who did her things on her terms. She wasn't going to let any man control her in the name of marriage.
“ But babe, you need someone to take care of you, what will you do when you are horny? I have Stanley with me. You need to get someone too”
Maya makes a disgusted face at Zara “ I'm not horny, I don't want a man in my life. Moreover, Stanley loves you, that's why you both are still together”
“ Fine” Zara huffed at her. Maya was one stubborn girl that she had ever seen.
“ What's your dream guy? How do you want him to be?” Zara asked her again after some time, she was trying to understand why Maya was this way.
“ Unfortunately, I don't have any dream guy,” Maya replied, shrugging like she couldn't waste her time thinking about such trivial things when she could be focusing on her work and making money to give her mom a better life.
“ Maya!!!” Zara screamed in frustration, she couldn't believe her friend. Who doesn't have a pictorial representation of their dream man?
“ Fine” Maya answered reluctantly giving in to Zara's demand.
“ My dream guy” Maya repeated with a faraway look in her eyes and a gentle smile on he lips“ I would want him to be caring, loving, intelligent, handsome with a brain” Maya answered grinning at Zara who shook her head at her.
“ Is that how to describe something? I want details, who knows maybe we might find someone on the net for you”
“ Okay, I want my dream guy to be tall with a pointed nose, blue eyes, and chiseled chin. Lean body” Maya closed her eyes as she described Liam for Zara. At the moment, her brain could only come up with someone like him because, for the first time in her life, she was attracted to a man.
Zara smiled as she stood up clapping her hands together “ I know it, you like Liam Powell right?”
“ Of course, who wouldn't like him but I do hate his selfish attitude. Remove that, then I'm okay with it” Maya responded sticking her tongue out at Zara who was back on her computer working.
Zara was about to respond when Maya's phone rang in her pocket, she picked it up to see a strange number“ Who is this?” Maya wondered in her mind as she accepted the call.
“ Hello! I'm I, speaking with Miss Banks?” The caller asked her immediately, the call connected, causing Skylar's heart to leap as she was scared.
“ Yes, please how may I help you” Maya answered back, getting scared. She didn't remember giving her number out to a random guy. No, she never gave her number to anybody. Her contact consists of only her mother's number, Zara's, her boss, and a few friends from school.
“ I'm calling in regard of a patient that has been admitted to our hospital, Mrs. Jessica Banks”
“ Oh my God,” Maya screamed, alerting Zara from the other side of the room as she ran to go meet her.
“ What is it, Maya?”Zara asked her, trying to pry the phone from her hands to speak to the caller herself.
“ I____ please that's my mother. Which hospital is she at?”
“ The Calvary hospital” The man answered just before he hung up. Maya quickly packed her bag and walked out of the door with Zara following behind her. She struggled to keep the tears a bay but they kept streaming down her face as she wondered what could have happened to her mother.
“ Calm down, Maya. I'm sure it's just a minor issue, Mrs. Banks is rarely sick” Zara moved closer to her to comfort her while they waited outside her sidewalk for a taxi.
“ I know but she was alright this morning. Nothing was wrong with her” Maya protested. She couldn't help wondering why she was in the hospital. Her mother was okay this morning.
“ I know, just calmed down. At least let's get to the hospital first, okay?” Zara told her as Maya nodded and turned to wipe her eyes. Zara flagged down a taxi, they both got in after giving the name of the hospital to the driver who drove them there.

Maya ran down the corridor to the reception where a young nurse was attending to other people in front of her.
“ Please where can I find, Mrs. Jessica Banks,” Maya told the nurse who nodded and directed her to the emergency ward where her mother was. Maya couldn't go in as the nurse prevented her from going in saying that the patient needed to rest.
Maya reluctantly sat down on the chair outside the room and bowed her head as she tries to wonder what could have happened to her mother.
“ What is going on? Is Mrs. Banks alright?” Zara's voice pulled Maya out of her thoughts as she looked up to see her friend coming down the stairs with her phone in her hands.
“ I don't know, they didn't tell me anything” Maya replied as she turned to look at her mother who was sleeping on the bed. A nurse was by her side.
“ It's alright I'm sure it's nothing serious. I need to go home, Stanley is around. I will come back and check on her tomorrow” Zara told Maya gently. She dreaded leaving her friend here but she has to do everything tonight not to lose her blog to the hands of that man, Adams King.
“ Okay. Take care of yourself and thank you for coming with me” Maya told her as she stood up to see her off.
When Maya returned to her mother's ward, she was surprised to see their neighbor Mrs. Blake in her seat, Maya was furious, she never knew Mrs. Blake will go to the extent of following her mom to the hospital because she wants to get the first-hand gossip of what's going on with her mom?
“ What are you doing here?” Maya glared at the woman who was seated in front of her with her hands folded across her chest. She was beyond angry right now with her.
“ Maya, you are here. Thank God” Mrs. Blake exclaimed excitedly, as she rummaged through her back to get her a letter.
“ Your mom fainted when she saw this, I had to rush her to the hospital” Mrs. Blake continued as she thrust the letter at a shocked Maya who collected it from her before turning it over and over in her hands wondering what was in the letter to make her mother faint.
“What is in here,?” Maya turned to ask Mrs. Blake who had stood up and was about to leave the ward.
Mrs. Blake paused on her way out and turned to look at the girl who has always hated her. If not for Jessica who needed her help, she would have never done it if it was Maya. Even after asking her to date her son, she refused as her son wasn't human like her.
“ That's the notice to vacate the apartment in the next one month. The new owner wants to build a condominium, your mother fainted after seeing that” Mrs. Blake told her and left the hospital without waiting for Maya's response. She needed to get home on time to plan where she was moving out to.
Maya was still shocked even after some minutes since Mrs. Blake had left. She couldn't come to terms with what she had just heard. How dare he? Maya cursed in her mind, he went ahead with everything even though she had told him not to. And now her mother was in the hospital because of him.
If only she knew that he had bought their apartment, she would have put in much fight into the debate yesterday and maybe, just maybe her mother won't be lying at the hospital right now fighting for her life. I will make him pay for what he had done to my mother!
“ Miss. Banks, right?” Maya came out of her thought to see a young man in a white coat staring down at her.
“ Yes, doctor. How is she? How is my mother?” Maya asked him as she wiped the tears from her eyes. She didn't know she was crying as she struggled to calm her nerves.
“ Your mother is okay. We need to watch her for the night and by tomorrow we can carry out a few tests on her. I'll suggest you go home and rest, the nurses here will take good care of your mother” The doctor replied as he patted her on the shoulder gently shaking his head before he turned to walk out of the ward.
Maya sat down on the chair, she was torn between going home and staying here with her mother. No, I need to go home to get my clothes for the office tomorrow, that heartless man needs to hear from me, Maya concluded in her mind and stood up to go home.
Maya quickly packed a few clothes that she will be using in the hospital, she didn't want to be coming back home every day. She walked to her mother's room to pack her clothes too.
Her eyes got a bag filled with used drugs. Maya was shocked, she didn't know her mother was sick. What's the drug for? Maya wondered, she stood up and left the room after concluding that it was a minor case.
She rode the taxi back to the hospital while praying in her heart that her mother should be alright.
Liam strolled out of his dressing room, knotting his navy blue striped tie gently as he turned to stare at his expression in the mirror. Today, unlike any other day, he was dressed in a dark beige suit and a white shirt. He wanted to look sexy and ruthless altogether. He walked to pick up his briefcase from the bed just as his cellphone rang. Liam swore under his breath and bent to drop the briefcase before removing the phone from his suit pocket. Liam was surprised to see his lawyer calling, he rushed to accept the call while wondering why his lawyer was calling him very early in the morning. “ Yes, tell me” Liam called into the phone. He picked up his briefcase and walked out of the room with his phone pressed to his ear. “ Yes sir, I had served them the notice just as you've wanted” The lawyer rushed to explai
Maya walked out of Powell's Homes and Properties with a dejected shoulder. She was embarrassed to see everyone gossiping about her. Some were even bold enough as to point fingers at her. “ Can you believe her? She's sleeping with the boss but acts like a saint” A woman was saying to her colleagues just as Maya passed through them. Maya turned to look at the woman who wasn't remorseful but instead glare at Maya. Maya averted her gaze and turn to walk out of the building, she was running late to check her mom in the hospital before going house hunting. Seeing that Liam has sacked her, she wasn't sure if he would allow her to stay until a month in his house. Maya flagged down the first taxi she saw and gave the name of the hospital to him before relaxing on the chair, she turned to gaze out of the window sobbing silently as tears cover her eyes. “ Are you okay, Miss” Maya quickly dabbed at her eyes before turning to offer the taxi driver a tiny smile as
Liam sat back down on the chair as soon as Maya walked out of the door. He touched his lips the second time, surprised at how only a kiss could make him feel so disoriented. He only wanted to get back at her for tarnishing his image but he ended up getting affected instead by her soft lips. Liam straightened on his seat as he tried to adjust his trouser which had given him an erection just by the thought of Maya's lips. Liam came out of his thoughts just as he heard the door, he straightened on his chair and smoothened out his suit before calling, ‘come in’ to the person. Noah strolled into the boss's office with the files his boss had asked for in his hands. He dropped them gently on the table before turning to look at the boss who was watching him with a confused expression on his face" What are these?"
Liam pulled into the customary court at exactly eight pm. He was thankful for surviving the suffocating silence which has fallen on them on their way here. He couldn't stop glancing at her time after time to see if she had changed her mind but she was cold and so distant that Liam couldn't help wondering if it was because he refused to give her the money. Liam stepped out of the car and made way to go help Maya with her door but she had beat him to it. He watched her get out of the car and only then could he notice the dress on her, a black mini skirt with a lilac flowery top. If only he had not gotten jealous over some guy, he would have probably gotten her a dress along the way. Now, he hopes this will be alright just to get the marriage certificate, they can have a proper wedding later. Liam turned
Maya ran down the hospital hallway frantically searching for the elevator as her eyes were blinded with tears. She hoped she wasn't too late? She paused as she was about to get in, lost in tears, remembering her mother's smiles. “ Excuse me, ma'am! Are you going to stand here gazing at the elevator or are you going inside?” A voice called out to Maya as she turned swiftly to take in an angry Liam glaring down at her with his hands inside his pockets. Maya noticed that he had changed out of his beige suit, he was now dressed in a navy blue suit with a white pristine white shirt. His neck was bare of a tie. Maya forced her eyes away from him and stepped into the elevator. She refused to let him annoy her. Her mother needs her more. She hopes she's alright... Liam gazed at Maya who stood far away from him, he clench
Liam paced through his bedroom while his grandfather sat in front of him, looking at him like he had lost his head. “ Can you explain to me William why my daughter-in-law has refused to come back home? And why is she trying to annul a marriage, a few weeks after marriage?” Liam's grandfather questioned him as he tried to calm his nerves. Truth is, he was getting agitated but he was trying badly not to show it yet. Liam paused as he turned to glare at his grandfather. “ I wish I knew the answer to that too, Grandpa. I'm lost here” Liam shouted at his grandfather before turning to stare out of the window trying to organize his thoughts. He was almost going crazy with the thought of Maya on his mind. After her mother's funeral, she had walked into his office the next day and threatened him to annul their marriage el
Maya gazed into her mother’s smiling face with tears streaming down her face, she murmured words to her mother while gazing at the portrait in her hands. It was a picture Maya had forced her to take some years after her father left.“ Mom, I miss you so much. This world seems empty without your warm presence, your never-ending smiles, and even your nagging. I miss them all'' Maya cried as she hugged the portrait to her heart, crying out her sorrow. She was thankful that the Blake's were not at home. She wouldn't want to see the worried look on their faces.A knock on the door pulled Maya from her thoughts as she stood up, wiping her eyes with the hem of her dress she walked to the door wondering if Mrs. Blake had forgotten something at home since it wasn't her closing hours yet. She worked as a cleaner in the hospital where her mother ha
"Good morning, Vera. I trust you had a good night's sleep last night, huh?" Mr. Powell greeted his housekeeper the next moment he showed himself into the kitchen."Yes, Mr. Powell. Thank you for asking," Vera commented with a smile on her face as she turned to hand him his glass of morning coffee. She noticed his pleasant mood and commented on it."You look excited this morning, Mr. Powell," Vera said as she stepped away from him and went on with her chores of getting breakfast ready. " Yes. You can say that again. Has my grandson or wife awakened already?" Mr. Powell asked her as he let his eyes take in the activity in the room. He stared at everyone who was busy running around the kitchen trying to attend to their needs. Apart from Vera, who had been with them since she was young, Liam's grandfather had hired four other extra helpers to assist her in the kitchen, especially now that she was way past fifty."Not yet, Mr. Powell." Vera paused as she grinned in excitement, suddenly rem
Mrs Belinda smiled at the security guard who had stopped her car and was now walking toward her.She whines down her window and waves her hands at him “Hello. Open up the gate, I'm a member here” She nodded at him. “Good afternoon, Ma'am. I'm sorry but can I see your ID?” He asked her as he bent to look at her through the window. Belinda smiled as she noticed he was old and was spotting wrinkles on his face.He couldn't be older than her but thanks to her monthly skin care products, her face was wrinkles free. Now, she looks so young that people confuse her daughter and her to be sisters. And Belinda liked it so much.“It's okay.” Mrs. Clinton said and her newest Louis Vuitton bag, she rummaged around to see that she had forgotten to bring her membership ID.Now this security guard would have to embarrass her and Belinda didn't want to draw attention to herself, especially not now when there were sensitive issues concerning them in the news. She whined down the glass again and smiled
The Sun shines brighter in the sky. Mrs Clinton donned her makeup, picked up her Luiz Vuitton bag and went out of her room. She walked down the stairs giggling excitedly. She had played them smartly and she was glad.Since Liam had chased her husband from the company, he no longer pays them a monthly allowance and the one Grandpa Mason gave to them was so small that it couldn't sustain their household not to talk of it being enough to meet her personal needs. She paused as soon as she noticed her husband pacing around the sitting room. She glared at him. This was all his fault, if only he hadn't left that company she wouldn't have had to stoop so low as to purchase a counterfeit. She hopes no one notices at the Marshall's party.“Where are you going?” Mr. Clinton bellowed at his wife who had ignored him and instead moved towards the door.Even since the incident at the office, she has been avoiding him.“I'm going to the Marshall's party.'' She called to him. She turned to look at him
Even though Liam didn't hear her, Maya could dictate the jealousy in her voice and the meaning behind her words.“She has a crush on him!” Maya gasped. She couldn't believe she was going to fight a little girl for Liam. God, so much for abstaining from men all this while. Why couldn't she have fallen for someone like Alex? Even as she said so her heart broke, cause she knew she would have never been happy with Alexander.“What are you doing here, Fiona?” Liam asked her as he sat on his chair and regarded her with a serious expression on his face.Fiona suddenly jumped up in excitement and ran to the table. “I need your help” She exclaimed while she pouted at Liam who smiled and waved her on“You know I'm done with my school, right?”Liam nodded. He paused as understanding dawned on him “You need a job”“Yes. That's why I love you. You're so intelligent. Much more than Charles'' She called to him.Liam frowned. He was searching his brain for any form of work she could do in his compan
Maya smiled. She did tell Alexander that Liam would do anything for her. She knew he was attracted to her.“I don't want you to chase anyone from that house,” Maya responded. She smiled at him.“And what are you willing to give me in exchange?” Liam inquired of her. He smirked as soon as he saw the shock on her face.“Really, Maya? Do you think I was going to give up a billion-dollar project and not want anything in exchange?” Liam asked her. Just who the hell does she think he was? He might love her but he was a businessman at heart.Maya gulped as she avoided his eyes. He was willing to let go of the house in exchange for what she could give him. And what could that be? Maya tho
Liam threw the door open and pushed her inside.“Liam, please ” Noah screamed at him as he came running towards them. He has just been informed by Mrs Houston, who was a large shareholder in the company.“Stay out of this, Noah” Liam warned him. He turned to close the door. He clicked the lock, locking them in, his hands pulsing with anger. He walked to the window and pulled down the blinds shutting out the rest of the world while he turned to the woman who was hell-bent on making his world a living hell.“What was the meaning of that in there?” He growled at her stalking towards her with angry strides while she took one step back, her tongue going out to lick her bottom lips.
“There's someone here to see you, Ma'am”Maya turned from her desk where she sat, shocked.“Who?” She asked Dora, the receptionist while wondering who that could be.Dora shrugs. She didn't bother to ask for his name. He was one handsome dude and she had stared at him in shock thinking he had come for her not until he had asked for Maya.Dora frowned at her while staring sideways at her. She wasn't even beautiful. Why then did handsome men fall for her?“I'm coming. Let me inform Liam first ”Maya replied, she stood up and straightened the wrinkle in her purple short gown and stepped around to go to Liam's office.
Liam carried her into the night running around the garden trying to find a way to his car while his heart beat erratically in his chest.Maya groaned, she untied his tie and unbuttoned his chest with frantic fingers, her hands becoming desperate for him.She pushed the shirt aside and fondled his chest hair. She drew her hands through them as she sighed. It felt like coming home to her. This is what she wanted. What she has waited for all her life.“Don't,” Liam gasped as her hands found his nipples. She pinched on it causing him to pause. He threw his head back and moaned.“God, Maya” He kissed her urgently. Shoving his tongue through her mouth with an urgency he couldn't control...“I want you so much” He called huskily into her mouth.Liam kissed her a bit longer. He stopped and threw his hands up signalling for her to stop.He took a step back after dropping her on the ground. They were now hidden in the garden.“Let's take a deep breath” He instructed her while he also did that b
There was something about her that touched something deep inside him. Emotions he had kept buried for years. Emotions he had given up on. Emotions____No, let's not go there, Liam. He warned his heart as he turned down a narrow way and pulled into a parking lot.Maya turned to stare at the house where he had pulled into. It was a typical Western house with two storeys.“How did you know so much about here?” Maya asked the one question that had been on her mind since that night.Liam shrugs as he opens the door for her. She stepped out and he jammed the door, locking it.He held his hands out to her, she placed her hands on his arms as he turned to guide her into the house.“I have a mining company on the outskirts of the city”It took a while before Liam's words could register in Maya's brain. Her brain has ceased functioning ever since she had touched Liam. Her heart had taken over and it was telling her how good it w
Maya freezes as she opens the door, sweating profusely. The fight ebbing through her from her exercise. She had remembered her mother's advice to her to always exercise away her anger and never to say or do anything she would later regret in angerWhich was why she had taken the stairs instead of the elevator. And now that she had gotten into the room, Liam was not available. It was like he had disappeared. Her eyes caught the bead in her hands. She glared at it. Could it be the reason for her troubles? Could Liam be right? He had said the bead was nothing but bad luck. “Damn you. You're nothing but bad luck. Everything started that night after we left the flea market” Her hands were already going to pull the bead from her hands but she was surprised to find it stuck. She tried it again and again but it wouldn't budge. Maya was in the process of tearing it off when the doorbell rang.“Yes, I'm coming.'' She called hurrying to the door. She thought it was Liam knocking. She opened t
