Chapter 9

Everleigh's POV.

Why would Felix put a camera in my bedroom? There were a gazillion questions in my head and no one to ask.

"How stupid of me!" I muttered, slapping my face.

The moment he came back, I was going to storm up to him and demand that he clear the memory of the camera.

The last thing I wanted him to know was my true identity.

Because if by any chance he finds out that I was a liar, he would know that the relationship he and I shared many years ago was based on lies.

"Do you really care what he thinks?" I said to myself, pacing the room. There were broken bits of the glass and of the tray.

I stepped away from the scene and paced a different side of the room as I wondered if it mattered to me that much. He was my ex and we were nothing but friends.

I was unable to give myself an answer, I couldn't decide why I badly wanted him to be oblivious, so I proceeded to have breakfast, after which I had a lazy day in his pool.

I sat with my legs inside the water and looked at it as my legs created waves.

I kicked my feet back and forth, I enjoyed the way the water made ripples in response. The water offered a sense of serenity.

I wanted to jump into the water, swim and clear my head, but I wasn't sure if it was okay for me to swim since I was pregnant.

I still hadn't made up my mind on whether I was keeping the children, but I cared about them a great deal.

My mind was completely blank which was something that barely happened lately. I took in air and then I exhaled. I felt at peace, slightly sleepy and very relaxed.

Felix was giving me more calmness than I bargained for and I couldn't think of rejecting any of it.

"Hey." I felt someone tap my back gently. I looked behind me slowly, trying to recall whose voice I had heard.

"You think I'd never find you, right?" I hesitantly turned around since I was unable to recall who it was behind me.

A frown carved out on my face as I looked at her. How did she find me?

"Madison." I said, feeling my heart beat get faster. "How did you find me? How did you get here?"

She sat next to me by the pool and put her hand around my neck. "Chill out." She said, "I'm not here to kill you, I just want to talk."

I thought about yelling for help and wondered what the possibility was that someone would hear me from here.

It was very slim as I had a tiny voice that was only beautiful for singing but never efficient for screaming. I gulped a lump and kept my eyes fixed on hers.

She locked her eyes in mine and I exhaled deeply. "What exactly do you want from me, Madison?"

She still smelled the same. Like someone making an effort to be noticed. I should have known it was her from the way she smelled.

Of heavy perfumes and deodorants. "I want you to be dead."

"Which is why I left your lives so many years ago. I faked my death so that you would be happy.

Why are you after me again? What do you want from me?"

"You don't deserve happiness. You know what you did to me, Diana. Many years ago, you made attempts to replace me."

"How?"

"Shut up and let me talk. You don't deserve to live and you don't deserve to be happy.

The only reason I have stayed out of your life all these years is because I knew you were unhappy. You fooled everyone else but not me.

I knew that the reason behind your death was too unintelligent, so I trailed you until I found you. And as long as you were unhappy, I stayed away."

"What did I do exactly to deserve this?"

"Stop playing the victim! Stop claiming to be ignorant. You know what you did."

I looked at her with utter disbelief wondering what the matter with her was.

It was always the same every time I tried to have conversations with her. Years back, she would yell and throw tantrums.

She would tear up and call me a manipulative person. She would involve our father and get me punished.

Yet it was her who made attempts to kill me. Here she was again, claiming that I was ignorant.

Madison continued to speak. "You have two options. Go back to your husband who knows what you are, a piece of shit and treats you like it.

Or remain here and be rest assured that the next time I come around, you'll be dead."

"How did you get past security?"

Pfttt. She scoffed and giggled. "I am Madison Clark. Everyone in the whole world knows me. I can get into anywhere and I can get out of anywhere."

"How is our father?" I saw our father in Madison. She looked a lot like him but behaved nothing like him.

"My father is fine, but he still doesn't love me. You drove my father crazy after you left. You deserve to suffer!"

My heart beat got more rapid as I tried not to show my trembling body and lips.

I felt my heart break as I thought about the pain my father had to go through. "It's so sad."

I was tempted to tell Madison that this was all her fault. But that could trigger her to do something stupid. She was crazy and I was sure of it.

She was highly temperamental as well. The last thing I wanted to do was upset her.

She was still speaking. "You think your lawyer can help you? I called him on my way and told him to drop your case." There was a smug smile on her face.

"If he hadn't done as I asked, you'd have heard of his death. I'm done with you, Diana." She said, standing from where she sat beside the pool. "You heard what I said.

You have forty eight hours to leave this miserable simp who fails to see that you are nothing but garbage and should be treated as such or die here and get him into trouble.

I'll see you soon. Or hopefully, I'll hear about your union with your husband again."

She walked away from me like she had come. I sat and watched her unable to mutter another word until she disappeared from my sight.

I was clueless on what to do next. She did a great job at frightening me. Who would be of help?
