Chapter 8

Everleigh's POV.

I stirred gently on the bed and then I parted my eyelids. I looked at the clock above my head and it was almost ten in the morning.

I stood from the bed and shuttled towards the window. I opened the curtains and looked down below.

I drew in the fresh morning air and a smile lit up my face. This was a new beginning for me.

A hand wrapped around my waist and I felt someone breathe on my skin.

I immediately turned around, to see Felix standing behind me with a beautiful smile.

"I hope that wasn't inappropriate?" He said to me as he walked with me, back to my bed.

"Good morning," I replied, perching on the edge of the bed. "Did you sleep well?"

"Not a wink. We have so much going on at work, I'll be leaving in a few minutes.

I came up to check on you before but you weren't awake. I'm glad you're up now.

I came to tell you that I'll be leaving and ask if there's something you'll be needing."

"I'll be needing nothing, but you can get me anything you want on your way back."

"Alright, Ever. Take care of yourself and please rest well so that you feel better soon.

You look a lot better today than you did yesterday. I think that's a good sign."

"It is. I told you all I needed was to rest."

After he left, I showered, got dressed and headed downstairs.

All his staff members treated me with a lot of respect, something I didn't enjoy in my husband's house.

I loved how Felix made sure everything at his place was a contrast to what Clyde offered me.

I was deeply grateful and would tell him that I was the moment he got back from work.

"Hello, Everleigh," It was my lawyer on the phone. "How are you doing?"

"I'm very well, sir," I responded to him. "I want to know what's up with the divorce, I'd also want to know what's up with the case about Laura and I.

The so-called kidnap. Lastly, I have something that I wish to share with you."

"Clyde signed the papers so the process was shortened and would be done soon.

You have a hearing in court in three days, I mean the accusation that you kidnapped Laura. What is it you want to tell me?"

I sighed and locked the door behind me. Anxious that there could be other ears in the room or someone nearby.

"Sir, this is a very long story but I want you to please understand why I did what I did."

"I'm listening, Everleigh. You know I can never judge you."

"For a start, my name really isn't Everleigh. Secondly, every document that I own is forged.

I'm nervous that I might be caught in the court of law and that would make them believe that I could kidnap a mastermind."

"What are you saying dear?"

"My name is Diana and I am the daughter of multi- billionaire Clark."

"Of course you are," He said with a hint of sarcasm.

"I'm being honest. I'll send every proof you need. I'm the late Diana Clark."

"So you reincarnated?"

"No, I moved many states away from my father, changed my identity and stayed away from social media until I was forgotten."

"I don't know what to say, but why are you saying all of this now?"

"Because my sister, Madison, who was the reason I faked my death in the first place, is back in the picture.

I have a feeling she is the one framing me. I need legal advice, what do you suggest I do?"

"You should go back home to your father."

"Wouldn't there be consequences for faking my identity?"

"There would, certainly. But if Clark is really your father, you'll get out of anything.

He mourned Diana so much, I'm certain he would be excited to have you back."

"Maybe. Maybe not. Since I have been gone, I'm sure Madison has taken advantage of his mental state to brainwash him.

She has tried everything within her power to make him hate me.

Now that I am absent, there's a tendency that she has succeeded."

"What would you want to do, Everleigh?"

"I want to go on with my fake identity and fight my battles.

I'm only asking for legal advice concerning Madison and if my fake identity would affect me in the court of law."

"You are not being charged for faking your identity so there'll be no need for them to verify it.

I think you need not worry. However, your main worry should be Madison."

"She is of course my main worry. I don't know how to get her to leave me alone."

"What if she didn't know your location?"

"What are you suggesting?" That you go somewhere without any announcement.

"I doubt she knows my current location. But it wouldn't take her long to find me, she has her ways."

"I'll take my time to think about it and come up with a way out, you need not worry. Take care of yourself, Everleigh."

"Thank you." I conclusively said, getting ready to hang up.

A knock came immediately and I was done talking with him. I opened the door to see one of his staff members with a tray of food.

"How long have you been there?" I asked her anxiously as she strolled into the room without being invited to drop the tray.

"A few minutes."

"What did you hear?"

"Absolutely nothing, ma'am. Your room is soundproof."

I sighed with relief. "Alright, thank you. Please excuse me, I have a few things to get back to."

"Right away, ma'am." She left. I wondered what was in the tray. I walked towards it with curiosity.

I settled in on the chair and then I rested my elbow on the table. The aroma was pleasant, I tried to guess what was in it.

Before I could open the food, my eyes caught something. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. There was a camera in the room.

A red light was blinking which meant that the camera was on. My heart froze as I thought about the implications.

"No way!" I stood up immediately, feeling my head spin. I staggered and sank back into the chair.

"No way!" I removed the dishes from the tray and held the tray up. I tossed it up at the camera. I watched it spin in the air and I saw it hit my target.

The camera was destroyed, hopefully the video was destroyed as well.
