Chapter Twelve

Mia succeeds in avoiding Xavier for a couple of months after what happened to them, Xavier wants to take responsibility for her, she always turned him down but the man didn't give up. He is guilty of what he has done to her so he decided to pursue what he thinks is right.

Xavier tried everything to wins Mia's heart at any cost even he doesn't truly understand what he feels for her or even if she rejects her many times. He never loses hope, he always sends a flower and food to Mia's flat every day.

Mia is a bit move by what the man doing every day for her but she can't accept what they have done that night. She can't forgive the man because she can't also forgive herself.

Two months later, Mia attended a meeting at their school she's working. Every one of them should report about their student's progress to the board of directors, she volunteers to be the first one to report she reasoned that she's not feeling well and a bit dizzy, her colleagues' agree upon seeing her look pale.

She stands at the front started to talk about her student's progress in learning mandarin. In the middle of her presentation, the pain in her head is aching too much. She is wobbling, her eyes are slowly shutting, she tried to look closely at everyone but her eyes and mind give up and everything went black.

Everyone in the room run through her when she faints, they tried to wake her up but she didn't even open her eyes. His colleague Bernard, offers to carry her and brought her to the hospital while the other teachers are trying to call one of her relatives but they remember that Mia is living alone in the city so they called her friend Kelly to inform her about what happened to her, Mia.

Kelly runs through the hospital front desk and asks the nurse about Mia's room number. The nurse responded quickly then she runs and reached the second floor of the building.

"Kelly's POV"

I received a call from Mia's colleague that she passed out and brought to the hospital, without a second thought I came and reached her room.

In a quiet, white spotless, small four corner room I saw Mia laying on cold metal bed rails with a soft comforter.

I sat on the chair and watched Mia while asleep, I stared at her face while waiting for the doctor to tell me the result. She looks pale, she has a dark circle around her eyes that indicates that she's having a hard time taking asleep. Maybe she's thinking too much, I heard from her that something's happened about her and Xavier a couple of months ago.

I put my hand on top of her hair and comb it, "life has been hard on you, take sleep for a while, my dear friend." I whispered.

I heard the door knob's clicking, I turn my head and saw the doctor's coming in. I jump out of my seat and greeted his arrival. "Doctor, tell me what happened to her? How is she?" I worriedly asked.

"Are you her family member?" he asked.

"No doctor, I am her friend. She doesn't have family in this city, her mom died years ago and she only has me. So, please tell me her condition." I beg.

"Her body is a little weak due to overfatigue, she needs to rest for a couple of days. And I suggest that she must eat vegetables and avoid carrying heavy objects. It will be good for their health if she follows what I said." he explained.

I was dumbfounded and thinking about why did the doctor say the word "their" to Mia, the doctor already turns his back when I got my sense back.

"Excuse me, doctor, why did you say the word "their" to Mia's health?" I asked.

He turns to me and said, "Oh I thought you already know that she's pregnant"

"WHAAAAAAAT?!!" my voice raised when I confirmed. 

"Calm down. Yes. She is two month's pregnant, so you better tell the good news to her husband and take care of her. I have to leave now." he bid goodbye.

I was left astound.

Oh poor, Mia. She might get shocked if she'd know that she's pregnant. I feel bad for her...

I looked at her body laying on the bed, I noticed that she's awake.

Wait, did she heard what the doctor said? What if she did something bad to herself? What can I do to help her?

"Kelly??" she called.

I look in her direction and come near to her, I slump myself on the chair and held her hand. "How are you feeling?" I asked her worriedly. She shakes her, "I am okay" she sounds husky, her tear comes out from the corner of her eye and falls on the side of her face.

"Why are you crying? Is there something wrong with your body? Are you in pain?" I query, she turns her head and she anxiously looks at me.

"I heard the doctor say that I am pregnant. That's not true, right?" she desperately asked. I lost my words, nothing comes out of my mouth but my action confirms that it was true.

Her tear continued to fall over again, she sobs desperately. I don't know how she feels but my heart aches for her, I embraced her and she embraced me back. I tried to comfort her to make her sadness away, tap her back to stop her from crying.

"Wh--why is this hap-pening to me? There are ma-many people w-who ask to ha-ha-ve a baby but not me!!!!" she complains.

"Shhhh. You should stop crying, that's not good for your baby" I reminded her. I removed my arms from embracing her and get a glass of water to offer to her then she accepts it. Her hands were shaking while drinking a glass of water, she emptied the glass and put it on the brown side table.

I'm calming Mia when I heard the doors sliding open, I throw a look in the direction of the door. I was shocked upon seeing Xavier visiting Mia's room holding a bouquet and basket of fruits, I was upset and acted out to him like "what are you doing here? You're not welcome by her," I wanted him to walk out of this room instead he comes near to Mia and acts like they were never in a cold war.

"Hi, Mia. How are you feeling?" he asked. Mia glanced at him, she furrowed her brows and picked up her pillow to throw to him. "I don't want to see you! Get out of my room!!!' she screams, her voice echoes on the whole floor which caused panic to the nurse to runs through Mia's room and asked what's happening I explained to the nurse and apologized for disturbing them to their works.

The nurse accepts my apology and she talks to Xavier to leave the room, luckily he comes out with the nurse.

I noticed the guilt on Xavier's face seeing Mia in that condition, If I didn't see how he apologized, struggles, and beg for forgiveness from Mia before, I might be hating him right now like how Mia hates him but he's a responsible man and he's trying to convince her to trust him, unlike other men who'll run out after they did a mistake. I feel really bad for these two.

Long hours had passed, Mia finally slept. I planned to comes out of the room to grab some food to eat but I saw Xavier leaning on the wall of Mia's room.

"Mr. Alejandrino?" I called out. He goes after me, "How is she? What happened to her?"

"You don't need to worry about her, she is fine. In fact, she's sleeping right now. You can take a look, she will not know. The doctor said that she just needs to rest for a week so it's nothing" I inform him.

He peeks through the door to see Mia, he is like a tamed sheep that scared to be get caught. "Why don't you go in? She's sleeping soundly, you will not get caught by her." I suggested to him.

"Really? You will not stop me from seeing her?" he asked with amusement, I laugh a little.

"Of course not! Why would I stop you?"I asked him humorously.

He just shook his head and said, "Thank you! If you need help with anything, you can tell me and I will help you." I nod at him and he happily walks into the room.

I hide in the corner of the room and watched him for a moment, he sat on the chair at the side of Mia's bed. He held her left hand, I saw his finger rubbing the back of her hand and gently kiss it. He sincerely looks at Mia's face and whispers something to her then he cried?? Yes, he cried to her.

I am enjoying watching this kind of man, he's very gentle, caring and I think he loves my friend more than she loves Alex. I glance at the hallway and I saw a familiar face coming from afar, I hurriedly turn my back and walk out of the hallway. I hated to see him and I don't want to see him anymore. I keep on looking back to see if he noticed me until I bump into someone...

I turn my head and saw a very familiar man, a man whom Mia loved for long years. A man who also broke her heart into pieces, A man who makes herself changed for her to be noticed and loved by him back, a man who fails her ultimate dreams.

"Kelly??" he asked. I forcedly smiled at him and greeted him, "oh hi! You're back"

"Yeah. What a coincidence! What brought you here?" he curiously asked. I traveled my eyes to find an excuse from him to leave, "Oh, I'm looking for food. I'm starving, I have to leave now" I answered as I surpass him but he stops me and said, "Wait, I will treat you."

We came to the food court near the hospital, I tried to make him forget what am I doing in the hospital. I acted like I am picky when it comes to food and tried to mislead him, we go around the court and stop when we get tired when I actually drooling at all the food we passed by.

I can smell a different kind of delicious food they are selling, they have burgers, pizza, rice, sisig, calamari, chicken, steaks, seafood, pasta, beef, and many more. My stomach is starting to growl cause of hunger but I keep on pulling him to other stores in here.

"Are you really hungry?" he seriously asked. "Yeah" I barely replied. 

"But why are you being picky about foods?" he interrogates.

"Ah... Look, Alex, I am a model and I need to take care of my body if not I will be fat, and no one will ever hire me. Well, If you change your mind by treating my food that's alright. You can leave" I reprimanded him.

"I am just asking. Why are you suddenly get offended?" he asked.

"Well, I-i --I--" I stutter upon seeing Sky walking towards the food court. "Oh damn. What is he doing here?" I whispered. I bent down, covered myself to Alex's body, and peek at him. "who offended you? he asked again, I looked up at him and smiled shyly, I pulled him out of the food court.

"Is there something wrong with you?" he investigates, I travel my eyes once again and checked if Sky is around and luckily there's none.

"Yeah. But I'm alright. I don't like to eat now, I lost my appetite already" I replied. I want to laugh at his confusing face right now but one thing I noticed about this man, I think he forgot something to wear. He looks suspicious to me, what brought him back here? I thought he planned to live in the state for good.

"Okay. Are you leaving now?" he inquires, I just nod.

"May I know, how is Mia doing?" he added. I suddenly gave him a suspicious look and scanned him, "she's doing great" I forcedly answered...

He bows his head and shyly said, "would you like me to send you home?"

"No need. I don't want to bother you," I refused. "It's alright. Honestly, I was about to visit Mia," he uttered.
