Chapter Five

Xavier’s POV

Knight in Shining Armor

It was a rainy evening, I was driving my car along the road I saw the light on the post became red I stop my car when I’ve noticed a woman at the front of the store. She was damp, looks scared, and her hair was messy. She was surrounded by a group of men and, trying to avoid them but she seems in trouble.

I left my car at the nearest parking area and quickly run to where the woman is. This group of men looks like goons.

 “Try to come near me and you’ll see” she challenged them, she positioned her hands and feet in a fighting position.

“Just come with us! We will make you happy tonight” the man answered in a lustful manner while everyone walked near to her.

“Hey bastards! Stop picking on a girl” I shouted at them as I face the man and punched him really hard, I noticed everyone faced me and run towards me holding a piece of wood in their hands.

I saw the face of the woman, it was the girl I kissed at the lounge before. It's been a month but how can I forget her? She was wearing high waist black shorts, a red hanging blouse, and sneakers.

I looked at the group of men, they’d tried to hit me but I avoid them. I punch those men until they fall on the wet ground.

Then I felt a heavy object hit me at my back which causes me to fall on the ground, he faced me, pulling my collar and punch me on my face twice. My eye gets blurry.

 I can feel blood coming from the corner of my eyes, drop on my face. My back and neck are aching.

“fuck” I cursed to them. I tried to stand but a man hit my knee, I fell again. I don’t think I can still drive home.

I saw those men standing in front of me and was about to hit me a wood then the girl holds his wrist, run towards them and attacked them she gave them a kick and punch until they all run away.

She was cool. She knows how to protect herself.

I was still sitting on the ground. She faces me this time “Trying to be a knight in shining armor, huh?” she told me sarcastically and offered her hand to me, I reached her and stand.

“If I only knew that you know how to protect yourself, I wouldn’t be here in the first place,” I told her honestly as I look at the cars passing by.

She noticed that my knee is shaking so she helped me to walk through my car. I was about to call my friend to pick me up but she offered me to drive, and I just nod.

Were both sitting inside the car, nobody tries to speak. Until I decide to break the silence, I looked at her while she’s driving. “What are you doing at that place?” I asked her doubly and shook my head.

She glanced at me then she focused her eyes on the road again, “I came from the gym -- I was about to go home, but my car broke down so I decided to call a cab and wait there until it rains and those men suddenly appeared” she looked at me again, “You look familiar” she said, she creased her forehead then continue driving. Luckily, she didn’t recognize me. I pretended that I didn’t hear her.

She stopped the car at the nearest hospital.

“I don’t need to be hospitalized, it's just a small wound,” I told her, she looked at me like scanning my body.

“Even if that’s a small wound, as long as there’s a blood rolling along your face you have to be here and recovered,” she said frankly.

 She helped me walked inside the hospital, then the nurse helped me to get into the ward. She stayed outside while the nurse is cleaning my wound on my face.

And the doctor scans my knee to find out if I have a fracture.

My phone rang, Sky was calling me and I pick it up. “Hello?” I said in a low tone.

“You’ve finally answered your phone!” he said in an excited tone.

“What’s up?” I asked while looking at damp Mia sitting in the waiting area. There’s a girl who came to her gave her a paper bag, she accepts it and walked with her.

“I need to talk to you personally. It’s about business” he said. “Alright. Come at St. Claire hospital” I said calmly. I told him my ward number and he hangs up.

“What are you doing there?” he said.

“It’s a long story” I answered him.

Mia came in and stand in front of me, she already changed her clothes, she was wearing a hoodie jacket and shorts, her hand was inside her pockets. She has some bruising on her thigh and knee.

“Are you alright?” we asked in chorus, then we both laugh looking at each other.

Sky suddenly came in, he walked firmly and gave me a questionable stare. “bro, who’s this beautiful lady?” he asked teasingly. Mia faced him, she gave him a smile then I saw his eyes widened and frown. 

“Ms. Smith?” he asked in an excited tone.

“How’d you know me?” she asked.

“I’m Sky. Sky Aquino” he answered, he offers his hand to her for a handshake then she reached Sky’s hand and held it.

“Mia. Mirriam Cassandra Smith” she laughed at him.

“Were batchmates.” They said in chorus, Sky shook his head.

 “So, how’s Alex?” he asked, she gave him a bitter smile.

“He’s doing good” she answered sadly, I saw how her eyes become teary.

“Oh. Good to hear. By the way his my friend, Xavee” Sky pointed to me, I smiled at her.

“I see. Thank you for saving me Xavee, and I’m sorry for what happened to you” she looked at me.

“You’re welcome” I answered happily.

I finally know her name!

“Since Sky is here, I have to go” she pointed the way out.

Her eye is full of sadness, what happened to her? Who’s Alex?

She bid goodbye to me and to Sky, as she walks hurriedly. My eyes follow her way out until the door closed.

                                                    

I stared at Sky while laughing hard holding at his stomach, “Are you done?” I asked him seriously.

“Look. She was really upset the moment she heard the name of Alex. Haha!” he grin, I ignore him.

“Enough,” I told him.
