13. AMBER

The next day, I woke up at noon. Exhaustion peeling through my body. As usual, Emmett cleaned me up and tucked me into bed before walking away.

I found my phone, placed on top of the bedside drawer. I picked it up and started surfing through my call logs. I got a couple of missed calls from my Mom.

Then she dropped a voicemail asking how I was asking and telling me to call back whenever I could.

And I did, immediately. But she was at work. So she promised to call once she got off work.

Gracie dropped a voicemail asking about the emergency I had and hoping that everything was okay with my Mom. I sent her a voicemail, explaining that I was fine and so was my Mom.

But I couldn't think of a lie to tell her, so I didn't bother telling her why I left the Dorm earlier. That was all. They were the only two people that cared a lot about me.
