14. EMMETT

I almost spent the night in her room last night. I had that deep need to hold her in my arms and watch her sleep for the rest of the night.

The need crackled through my chest that I knew if I stayed back even a minute more, I wouldn't have been able to walk away. So I pulled my legs and left her room after cleaning her up.

Now seated at the Clubhouse waiting for Jonathan Briggs, I regretted not waking Amber up before leaving the house. She would be wondering where I went to.

And I didn't want to speak to her on the phone while I was still within the confines of this godforsaken Clubhouse.

When I caught sight of Jonathan, the son of one of the founding fathers of this town, just like my father and his father before him. He flashed me a smile and hurriedly closed the distance between us.

"Emmett." He called offering a handshake.

We shook hands and he took a seat beside me. "It's great to see you." He said.

"Wish I could say the same." I replied.
