Chapter One

Living alone in this world with nobody to lean on or nobody to motivate you to keep going is hard. It's not like I'm a lazy person but I'm tired of working different jobs and still rarely having to put food on my table or go shopping or just have money to spare.

I was on duty and daydreaming of what I could do to make bigger money, the cafe was not busy so I had enough time on my hands.

"Hi, welcome to Cris Cafe what can I get for you?"

"I'll like a cup of cappuccino and an apple pie," the lady said with an attitude, I wasn't in the mood to say anything so I just made her coffee and handed her pie to you.

"Hey bitch" Mario my best friend said to me 

"Have you heard the news?" he continued 

"What news?"

"That Walker enterprise is open for submission of applications as a personal assistant, I think you should submit one, I have the hope that you'll be called for an interview "

"You know I can't, I have no experience"

"Just try your luck bitch" he rolled his eyes 

"I didn't look so sure about it" he gave me his best puppy eye

"Are you giving me a puppy eye so that I can apply?" I laughed and he nodded

"Okay when I get home I'll check it out"

My shift ends by 8 but I'll be working a double since one of my colleagues begged me to fill in for her, I was doing all these for the extra cash. 

I was thinking deeply about what Mario said about applying to Walker Enterprises it could be my changing point it couldn't all, I have to do was take the risk and I was willing to try.

I got to my studio apartment very tired, I dropped on the only couch I had in the apartment, my apartment wasn't fancy and big but it was enough for me and homey.

I was really hungry so I went to the kitchen to check if I could find something to eat, I checked the cupboards to see that they were empty, I knew I had nothing in the cupboard but I just expected something to be magically there stupid of me I know. I saw a can of soup left in my freezer so I heated it and ate, took a long shower, and lay on my bed, I planned to check out the website for the job application but nature had other plans so I slept off.

I woke up to my alarm going off 'Arrghhh' it was already 6:30 I rolled over to put it out I just needed a few more minutes of sleep but I know if I didn't get up I wouldn't until noon. I did my morning routine, got dressed, and left my apartment, I wouldn't be going to the coffee shop today because Wednesdays were the days I babysat.

"Good morning Karen" I smiled at her

"Morning dear, hope you slept well" she smiled back at me

"I did, where's Shawn?" I looked around looking for the boy I would be babysitting 

"He's still asleep, well I have to leave now I'll see you guys at 4".

I went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Shawn and me. 

It was currently noon and the baby boy was taking a nap I decided to use the opportunity to apply for the job at a steel company, after filling in the form I was so scared to click on 'APPLY' but I eventually did.

It was Monday morning and I had to wake up earlier because the distance from my house to the cafe was too long and I love walking in the early hours of the morning just so I could inhale the fresh morning air. 

I got to the cafe in time and immediately started setting tables and cleaning the place up getting it ready before customers start to come in.

"Good morning girl" Mario was smiling so hard

"You look so happy and it's Monday morning nobody is that happy on Monday mornings so what's up" 

"Well it's safe to say that I'm in a relationship" he blushed so hard 

"You mean you're dating Paul? The guy you've been talking to?"

"Yes, girl yes!" I immediately held his hands and screamed 

"Oh my gosh congratulations dude no wonder you're all glowing in this morning I wonder what occurred during the weekend" I smirked and winked at him and he was blushing to try to hide his face from me.

"Enough talk about me, did you apply for the job?"

"Yeah I did" I sighed "but they've not sent any mail telling me to come for an interview, I knew it was a waste of time" I lamented, I was just hoping that I'll be invited for an interview.

"Oh girl don't lose hope yet I truly believe that you'll be invited for an interview" he consoles

"You think so?"

"I know so" I hugged him tight and just held him for so few minutes, he's been the only one there for me, encouraging and supporting me I don't know how I would have been if not for his kind words.

"It's time for work," I told him and we departed to our different stations for the day. The day dragged itself and we had a lot of customers today mostly during the lunch hour, I was so tired already before my shift ended and I needed to eat so I took the leftovers in the cafe, wrapped them up, and put them in my bag.

On getting home I went to the kitchen first and brought out the pies and cakes I got from the cafe, made myself a cup of tea went to my couch, got comfortable, and dived into my food. 

I was resting when I got a notification on my phone I took the phone and saw an email, and my heartbeat immediately increased, I was so scared to read the email I had to walk around my apartment for a bit to calm my nerves, I finally found the courage I needed to read the mail so I clicked on it and immediately tears sprung out my eyes-

Dear Elizabeth Smith,

Thank you for applying for the position of personal assistant, further to your application for the position, I would be delighted if you could attend an interview on the 14th of May, 2021 at 9:00 AM at Walker Enterprises road. Please write back to confirm you can attend.

My eyes became teary, I couldn't believe they invited me for an interview but I felt like I shouldn't go because I won't obviously be picked.
