I was so close to melting into Ryker’s body before mustering up the strength in me and pushing him off my body. I jolted up to a standing position. The heat coursing through my body was still there. I said nothing and rushed out of the room. I didn't release a breath until I reached the kitchen. Marcus’s mother had started baking the meat pie already. I was going to do everything myself even without the need for the maids help but the woman offered to help. I lied when I said I made it for Ryker. Well, partly him and partly me. I was craving a meat pie and decided to bake since the ingredients were available.

But since the woman believed I made it for my husband, so be it. “Thank you, Ma’am,” I said as I approached her. She took off the apron and set it aside on the counter before smiling at me. “You're welcome. And do call me mother. I'm your mother-in-law.”
