~Queenie~
"Congratulations Mrs. Aspen, you're four weeks pregnant." The doctor said with a broad smile, handing me a report, I was dumbstruck.
Subconsciously, I reached out and took the report, and my other hand subconsciously went to my stomach to feel if it was true. Unlike before, she felt a faint heartbeat.
"Are...you sure about this, doctor?" I asked, flustered.
The doctor smiled at me. "I am very sure, Mrs. Aspen. In fact, I conducted the test three times and I still had the same result. If you're still not convinced, you can pay a visit to another hospital."
I nodded with a smile. Biting down on my quivering lips, I stood up and walked out.
I visited three more hospitals and got the same answer. I was overly excited as I tucked all the results into an envelope before walking home.
I got home by seven in the evening. The gloomy house welcomed me once again. I glanced at the dining table and shook my head seeing the foods untouched.
Nevertheless, I didn't let it spoil my mood. The maidservants all looked at me with hidden scorn, but just like before, I chose to ignore it.
I stopped in front of the door I never dared to come across. With nervous hands, I reached out and turned the doorknob. The door gave way and I was met with a sight which made my leg wobble.
I fell to the ground distraught. Right on my matrimonial bed was my husband and… my best friend.
My chest tightened. The duo, after glancing at me, said nothing as they continued what they were doing.
I stared in that position until they were done. "Alicia...you...you've been lying to me!"
Velon ignored me and went to have a bath.
As I spoke, I tried my best to keep calm but ended up crying profusely. My husband, who had gotten out of the bathroom, walked up to me and sneered. "What are you doing here, barren woman?"
I had been enthusiastic to tell him the good news but after seeing the scene before me, I couldn't help breaking down again.
"You promised to love me till eternity, Velon!" I screamed, but my words came out barely audible.
Velon frowned and walked up to me. He extended his foot and pushed me down. "I've told you times without numbers to knock before you open my room's door! Has your barrenness also made you deaf?!"
Alicia watched the scene before her with relish. She too got off the bed, wore something to cover her nudeness then walked over to my fallen figure.
"Tell her honey." She spoke dotingly.
I opened my eyes at that moment to see my husband nod his head. "Alicia is pregnant with my son. She's three months pregnant. Apparently, I can't let my biological son's mother be a mistress, so we'd need to have a divorce."
My eyes dimmed. Suddenly, I lost control and went berserk and tried to rush up at Alicia but got kicked on the stomach by my husband.
I fell and recoiled on the floor. Holding my stomach in grief while praying my child was alright.
Alicia however, had a panicked expression as she jumped behind Velon. "Did you see that honey? Because she couldn't bear you a child, she tried to kill the one you already have! What a vicious woman!"
On the floor, I smiled bitterly. Once upon a time, Alicia was someone who needed help and due to my goodwill, I decided to lend a helping hand.
I was a bit docile, I would always run to her whenever I faced any kind of problem with Velon. Every suggestion she brought on was always well received by my naive self.
In time, she had managed to convince me to bring her into my home as she would assist me in dealing with Velon. Once again, I stupidly entertained the idea.
Now, look where it has gotten me. I looked at my husband who had a murderous look on. This same man had showered me with love the first and second year of our marriage.
In the second year, he suddenly became hostile to me. Beating me at every little provocation, but I stuck with him believing he'd change his attitude but the beatings became worse.
"You know what, Queenie Knight? I need you to sign the divorce agreement. Now!"
Saying that, he walked to his drawer and took the paper on top of it, then walked back to me. He flung it at me along with a pen.
I looked down at the divorce agreement, he had already signed and the only vacant place was where I would sign my name.
I laughed bitterly when I got the compensation he had given me. Looking up at him, tears fell from my eyes as I asked. "A hundred million? Is this all I'm worth in your eyes?"
Velon sneered angrily. He was getting more and more upset with me. "I can increase it to Three hundred if that'll make you sign the agreement faster."
I picked up the paper, and just when Alicia was getting excited, I tore the paper in half.
"There is no way I'm leaving you with such a treacherous woman! Our three years can't just go down the drain! Velon, look into my eyes and tell me you no longer have any feelings for me?" I said bursting into tears.
Velon stood rooted to the spot, his emotions flashing in his eyes. Seeing him that way, Alicia was about to say something when he left her hold and walked up to me.
"Queenie Knight, all I feel towards you is repulsion. Not only did you fail to make me feel like a man that I am, you're also a disgrace to me!"
After saying that, he reached out his hand and slapped me hard in the face. I fell, however, I got control of myself and clutched onto my stomach protectively.
The slap wasn't the end of it, punches, kicks and the rest of them followed suit. Soon, I was covered in bruises.
.....
My eyes flew open in a dark cell, it was extremely dark that I couldn't make out the shape of my own hand.
My sight which was blurry hadn't adjusted to the darkness when a fluorescent light lit up the place. It caused my eyes to shut back.
Although I had been a housewife for three years, I wasn't stupid. After I brought in Alicia, the lights had been a frequent companion to me whenever I was imprisoned by Velon.
I had initially thought the man was being heartless. But after seeing the female silhouette stride in, I suddenly realized it was all Alicia's plan.
The light wasn't like ordinary lights but one that no matter what one did to evade it, would always cause one to stay awake.
Thus, regardless of how many days I stayed in, as far as the light was on, I'd be forced to stay awake.
"Why are you making things hard for yourself? Just sign the divorce papers and all these will end." Alicia tsked, standing before me.
I looked up at the woman who had been acting weak and harmless for the past three years and broke down again. I hated myself for being too weak, easily fooled and easy to manipulate.
"I'm talking to you!" Alicia sneered, grabbing me by my jaw.
"What do you want, Alicia?" At this point, I was dispirited as I couldn't recall where I had gone wrong. "I gave you everything you wanted, I never withhold anything from you. Just tell me why you'd hate me so much to sleep with my husband?"
Alicia pushed me back with great force and my body collided with the wall. Thankfully, its impact wasn't much. Hence, I felt no discomfort from the little being in me.
"We both come from poor backgrounds, so why do you have to be the one who gets a lavish marriage? Get pampered and have anything you want. While I can only rely on you for help?" The woman replied with a smiley face.
"So our friendship meant nothing to you. All you ever cared about was my husband and wealth?"
"You're a stupid person, Queenie. I'm not surprised you got deceived by me..."
She stopped talking when she heard someone walking towards the cell, with a sinister look, she reached out and gave me a light spank on the face which left a little mark. She turned to herself and smacked herself soundly.
The sound made Velon hasten up. Simultaneously, the moment he appeared in the cell, he saw her move backwards while I reached out to stop her from falling.
Anger brewed in his heart as he concluded that I had been the one who pushed Alicia. Without waiting for an explanation, he stormed towards me and gave me a loud smack on the face!
I was beaten the day before and was still in pain. And now, I am being beaten again. As Velon's leather shoe landed on me, I held my stomach tightly praying within me that nothing would happen to my child. "You shameless woman! Not only are you barren, but you also want to get rid of other's joy!" By the time he was done with me, I was half-dead. He walked towards Alicia and asked affectionately. "Are you and the baby alright?" Alicia nodded weakly, holding her forehead. "I'm fine but I do feel a little dizzy. Can we go do a checkup just to be sure?" He nodded immediately. He had been without a child for three years. Not only had it given people the impression he was impotent, it had also made him a subject of scorn. Because of his frivolous behavior before he got married, a few people concluded it had led to his inability to have a child. After Alicia informed him of her pregnancy, he had been so excited that he no longer tried to hide their relationship. Due to his happiness
Velon's eyes dimmed, but his countenance remained the same as he signalled for a maidservant. "Get her her things!" The girl who had been waiting for his order, nodded and walked up the stairs. She grabbed me things from the guest room I stayed in and walked back downstairs. I stared at my belongings which the maid held in her hands like some little girl's plaything and shook my head. "I don't think there's any need for that. You can toss them away. The compensation I have will cover my expenses."After saying that, I cast the couple one last glance, my eyes reddened literally holding back the tears from pouring down. It was nighttime when I left the house. Velon was rather in a daze as he watched as walk away pitifully. Seeing his gaze, Alicia's eyes flashed as she walked towards him and hung a hand on his shoulder. "I felt the baby kick just now!" Just like she thought, he snapped out of his thoughts and turned to look at her. ~Velon~I directly held her waist tenderly as I l
~General POV~ The next day, which was a Thursday, Velon received a wedding invitation from Verlice. His heart hammered against his chest at the thought Pierce had finally taken interest in him. Although he was a wealthy man, his wealth and influence was like a drop of water into a water filled ocean. In other words, in front of people like Pierce, he was nothing. He quickly tore open the invitation and his chest tightened at the name of the groom. Alicia who was beside him also peeked at the letter. However, unlike Velon, she was quick to wave the thought away. "You really don't think it's Queenie, right?" "I don't know. It's just a speculation I'm having." The man replied with a sigh. "It can't possibly be her. I mean where did she meet him? Besides, Pierce Verlice doesn't seem like someone with a bad taste." She added. Velon wasn't bothered about Queenie, he just thought it was surprising if she was really the bride of Verlice. Turns out he was overthinking it. Saturday, th
Next morningWhen Queenie woke up, she was first astounded with the sight of a new, beautiful ceiling. Just when she began admiring it did she hear a voice beside her. "I've been waiting for you." Startled, she turned slowly to look at Pierce. The scenes from the days before flooded into her head. She was now Mrs. Verlice and the tanned man beside her was her husband, the legendary Pierce Verlice. "Good morning." She greeted, after she regained her senses. The man chuckled and got off the bed. She noticed he was dressed in casual clothes and asked. "Are you going somewhere?" "Yes." The man replied curtly and smiled. "I'm going shopping for the child's clothes and food.""If you do that, what else do I do?" She asked, perplexed. "I don't want you to stress yourself. Just stay at home and keep yourself healthy until you're due." Before she could say more, the man slipped out of the room. She lowered her head while her hands grabbed the bed sheets tightly wondering why the man ca
As soon as Pierce left the supermarket, he was immediately surrounded by a lot of reporters. His brows furrowed tightly and his eyes darkened. Obviously, he was annoyed. Seeing it, some reporters backed off while some new ones who were eager to gain a foothold and get a raise in salary, still questioned him crazily. "Mr. Verlice, a video was released to the general public just a few minutes ago. It was an expectant mothers' instructor, Anna Brendon, is she perhaps, your wife?" Amidst all the numerous questions being hurled at him, that was the only one that captivated his interest. He tapped the bodyguard who was warding the reporters off and gazed straight at the name tag of the lady who asked him. Sucking his teeth, he asked. "Veronica Vendell, did Anna Brendon put you up to this?" The question caught the lady off guard. However, it was not her first time of doing such a thing, hence, she wasn't so flustered. "No, Mr. Verlice. Questions like these are what the netizens are in
When Pierce got home that day, he learnt from the maidservants Queenie had gone to sleep. So as quietly as he could, he slipped into the room, into the bathroom, had his bath and quietly climbed onto the bed. Before he slept, he contemplated on whether to hug her to sleep or not to. With a sigh, he turned to the other side and slept off. Next MorningWhen Queenie woke up, Pierce was long gone. She rubbed her head nervously wondering if her words had upsetted him so much. She heard a knock on the door and got off the bed to answer it. "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice." "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice." The two maids who were outside the door greeted, lowering their heads as they spoke. Queenie was first startled by their behavior before she realized she was no longer in Velon's house where the servants treated her like trash. She smiled at them and said. "Morning. What do you two want?" The two maidservants consisted of two teenage looking girls who didn't seem to be more than 18. One
Queenie decided to go first meet Jessica before going to Glamour Entertainment. When she got outside, she met a man putting on a suit, patiently standing beside a black Bentley. When he saw Queenie, he walked up to her and bowed down a little. "Good morning, Mrs. Verlice. My name is Vincent and I was tasked to take you anywhere you wish to go. In other words, I'm your assigned driver." Queenie looked back at the car and nodded, but she had a complaint to make. "Why does it have to be such an eye-catching model?" Vincent glanced back at the car and grimaced. "Mr. Verlice knew you'd say such, which was why he gave this Bentley. It is, in fact, the lowest model in his garage." Queenie clicked her tongue. "Rich people sure know how to spend money. I'm going to meet a friend in a café." "Okay, ma'am." Said Vincent as he walked back to the car and pulled the door open. "Please." It had been a long time since she was treated in such a respectful way and as such, her cheeks burned
Finn looked towards Queenie and his expression became cold. Truth be told, he didn't really care about Queenie as she was just a used cargo. Although Velon had married her quietly, people like him had still heard the news. When he divorced her, he still heard the news. As expected, he didn't hold any respect towards her. "I'm sorry, Ms. Knight, but because you disturbed the peace of my café, I have no choice than to ask you to apologize to Mrs. Aspen and leave." It took everything in Jessica not to intervene prior to the stern eyes coming from Queenie. Vincent on the other hand couldn't bite down the disrespect and intended to teach Finn a lesson or two, but was held back by Queenie. She smiled and confidently assured him. "It's okay. I can handle this." Then she stepped forward. "Mr. Lei, I was told you were upright and just. I just don't understand why you'll choose to listen to one side and totally neglect the other. It doesn't seem just in my eyes. Instead, it looks as thoug
Pierce walked out of the bathroom with a towel tied loosely around his waist. Queenie who had been sulking on the bed raised her eyes to say something but it got stuck in her throat seeing his chiseled muscles. It also occurred to her this was the most intimate she had ever been with Pierce. Her body heated up at the thought of that and she groaned in displeasure. She was supposed to be angry but she was horny instead. Pierce had no idea what was going on with her but he did notice her frown deepened every passing second. "Queenie, are you alright?" He asked slowly and she snapped out of her thoughts. However, she ignored him. The man chuckled to himself and walked to the clothes he had taken off before going to have his bath. He took out something and handed it over to her. "Just like I thought, you were the one with the diary." She mumbled as she took it. "Yes. I came across it once in her office and decided to take it. Unfortunately, when I read the part regarding the formula,
Velon managed to get them through the corridor undetected. Queenie practically limped the whole time but quietly. However, just before they got to the elevator, they saw a green light and froze. There was someone inside. There was no time for them to decide as the elevator dinged open and Henry walked out of it. His face scrunched over when he realized what was going on and he immediately raised an alarm. "Who are you and who gave you the go ahead order to move them?" His sharp voice echoed throughout the empty corridor. Velon and Queenie felt movements towards them and sighed silently. Just like that, their perfect escape had been ruined by a lousy mouth relative. Despite her weak state, she tried to move when Velon held her back. "If you do that they'll get you again. Just get into the elevator." Upon hearing him, Henry scoffed and stood guard in front of the elevator door. Taking Queenie down would've been an impossible task but at this point, he knew she was beyond weak and
"But I still don't understand what the talk has to do with your plan with the formula for more drugs." Queenie scoffed, turning her face back to Mishael. "True. I've deviated from my storyline." The man replied, flashing an apologetic smile. "My father spent all his life's savings on Transformers because he knew he'd get more out of the product. The Transformers' drugs boost the human body. Increases things like speed, retention ability and some special abilities one might acquire as a side effect." "So you're trying to tell me you plan on doing the same thing which caused my mother to burn down the laboratory in the first place?" Queenie asked just to be sure and the man nodded. "It's called, continuing the family's legacy." Mishael enunciated and walked back to where he dropped his bottle of bourbon. "What if they don't find it?" Queenie asked as he filled his cup again. He only gave a dark chuckle. "I don't mind doing the same thing my father did." "Bring children and use the
Texas Velon returned home after being released by Queenie. He first had his son released but as he looked down at the boy, his heart skipped when he realized there was no resemblance between. "Daddy, those people took mommy away." Matt said, tears brewing in his eyes. He hadn't forgotten the sight he saw that day. "We'll go to mommy now. Don't cry." Velon consoled snapping out of his world. He grabbed the boy and took him into his arms. Just to affirm that Queenie was just messing with him, he stopped by a hospital and had them run a paternity test. "The result will be out in an hour, sir." The doctor told him. Then his eyes settled on Matt. "You have a handsome boy." "Thank you." Velon replied and led Matt out of the hospital. "The results can also be sent to your email in case you don't make it here on time. It's always more convenient." The doctor added with a smile. Finding no harm in it, Velon gave the doctor his email address before leaving. He found the police station w
Lucas and Audrey turned to see Deborah standing behind them with a smile. The most baffling thing was that they had no idea when she arrived. "How long have you been here?" Lucas asked, turning to her fully. Deborah flicked her wristwatch and stared at the time for a few seconds before raising her head again, "Three minutes. Just enough to kill you both and dump your bodies in the middle of the sea."If she was trying to scare them, she didn't succeed as they just stared at her blankly. "What are you doing here?" Deborah asked again, furrowing his brows in displeasure. "I worked for your parents. Of course I had to attend your father's funeral." Deborah replied with a snicker. "They gave you away. Frankly speaking, you don't look like you care about him." Lucas continued saying while Audrey watched silently. "You're right." Deborah chuckled, "I came to be sure Queenie won't run with the medicine she purified. It's unfortunate that Mishael now has his hands on her." "Mishael? Li
Mishael turned off his phone and turned his attention back to Queenie. David stood by the side with tears in his eyes. Just a few minutes ago, Mishael had suddenly instructed him to strung up Queenie and hit her. He had obeyed since he was hypnotized. "You know you don't have to make him watch as you hit me." Queenie who had regained her breath said. Mishael picked up his glass and walked close to her. "Then where's the fun?" Queenie sighed and lowered her head. "You do know they might not find the diary, don't you?" "Yes, I do." "That's good to know. What do you intend to do when they don't find it?" She asked and the man grinned crazily. "I intend to cut off your body parts for every hour it takes them to find it. It'll be a really unfortunate sight if they don't hand me that diary." Mishael replied, taking a slip from his cup. "I can help you find it. My mother stayed away from home almost all the time. So I made it a habit to follow her thinking she was cheating on my dad.
Knight's Mansion Natasha watched the funeral from a reasonable distance. She turned and headed back to her room when a hand reached out and dragged her into a corner. "It's me." Lucian shushed Natasha who was about to become violent making her freeze momentarily. She looked up to see her three elder brothers looking down at her with stoic looks. This was the closest she had been with them ever since they grew up. "I didn't come to cause Queenie any harm." She told them after a minute passed with none of them saying anything. However, her words were far from what Lucas needed to hear. He opened his mouth to say something. Fortunately, Lucian beat him to it. "When did you become so close to Queenie?"Natasha looked up at them silently. It was clear from the look in her eyes she wanted nothing other than to run away from them. But that only made the protective brothers curious. "I'm sorry but I'm not supposed to be discussing that with you." She told them after their gazes became
Queenie's pupils dilated as soon as she heard that name. "Now, give me the envelope." David said afterward and Queenie reluctantly gave it to him. There was no debating it. If she resisted, David would kill himself and Mishael would send someone else after her. If she still refused to hand it over, the same thing would keep repeating. David glanced at the envelope quickly before putting it into his suit pocket. Then he glanced up at her and said, "Mishael says thank you." He got up and lowered his gun. "Mishael, that bastard!" She groaned, trying her best to rein the anger within her. How Mishael had manipulated David to be so stupid was what baffled her. "Give me the gun." She told him but the boy shook his head with a confused look. "I don't want to give it to you." "Then point it at me before I get my hands on you." David had an even more confusing look on his face when he heard her. He glanced at his gun again and tried to point it at her but realized he couldn't. "Queen
"When did you find out?" Lucas asked. "Yesterday during my talk with Deborah." Queenie replied, "When did you two get your information as well?" "Oh, from Mary Leicester. She was one of the founding members of the experiment." Roxanne retorted. Lucas also nodded in agreement. "In as much as I want to continue this discussion, I have a father and a husband to mourn. After this funeral, I'll get to the bottom of all this." Queenie sighed and got up. Lucas and Roxanne also took that as their cue to leave and left as soon as Queenie made her way into her closet. "You think she's really affected by Pierce's demise?" Roxanne asked sadly as they walked in the corridor. "I don't know." Lucas said, at a loss at what to say. Queenie had always been one who hated revealing her emotions to people. He could imagine how hard it was for her. Not only had she lost the only father figure she had, she also lost her husband on the day of her father's funeral. Anyone would be racked up with pain.
