"Look what I brought you." Daisy said instead of arguing.
She pulled the champagne bottle and the chocolates and crackers out of the paper bag. "I'm not quite sure how cold the champagne is anymore, but we still have to drink it. And I heroically saved all of them, including the chocolates and crackers from the guy I was stuck in the elevator with, so we’d better enjoy them.""Well, of course we still have to drink that champagne. Give me that." Ugo grabbed the hotel water glasses as Daisy pulled the foil off the champagne bottle. "I can’t believe you were stuck in the elevator all that time. And why weren’t you texting me back. Was your battery out?""Okay, there’s a story there, but let’s toast to you first before I get into all of that." Daisy twisted the metal lid open and pulled out the cork with a gentle pop. After she poured a healthy amount into each of their glasses, she held hers up. "To Ugo Chike, the first black female partner at Jade and Judy, in over ten years. To a brilliant lawyer, but most importantly the best friend a girl could ever pray for.""Are you trying to make me cry." Ugo said. "It’s not working. I don’t care if you see water in my eyes. it is just because I’m allergic to this bedspread."Daisy smiled and clanked her glass against Ugo's. "Cheers to you." They both drank, hugged again, and drank some more."What time are we headed to the club? Daisy took another sip of champagne and checked the time. "We're partying nonstop baby. All that stress, I'm gonna pour them all out on the dancefloor. I don't care. Have some chocolates."Ugo reached for the champagne bottle and refilled their glasses. "Ugo, this suite is heavenly. Why are you splashing so much money on......""Frivolities?""Well!" Daisy replied."I've been made partner honey. Do you know what that means? It means I won't keep overthinking anymore. I don't have to consider joining a mushroom firm created by my colleagues from Bronx. Do you know that I almost put my Money in that firm." Jezz!""Being made partner doesn't stop you from wanting the start your own firm, does it?""Well, not yet at least.""So, no more excessive spending Ugo. And I'm serious. If we get back from the party, we're going to go down a bit with your room reservation. It's too much. I still don't get why you aren't in your house.""A girl has to get laid." Ugo echoed. "And the room, it's not my money. That dude I told you about, he rented it for three days. So I'm meant to be out of here by Saturday morning.""The chef?""Mhmm.""He seem like a nice person."Ugo nodded. "That's how they all seem until you loose your guard and they mess you up.""Don't even get me started." Daisy replied."Oh wait, what was the story from the elevator. Why weren’t you texting me back. I was worried that you were, like, in trouble of some sort. But I also know you're claustrophobic and the continuous beeping of your phone might get you paranoid. So, I had to stop.""You did well to stop. I would have gone crazy if you didn't.""Now, tell me this story immediately." Ugo set her glass down on the nightstand and gave her friend an expectant look."Damn, is that the look you use on your clients and have them spilling their guts.? Daisy took a fortifying sip of champagne. The real Ugo slipped out from behind the lawyer face as she grinned. "Well, basically, so start spilling."Daisy took a deep breath. It had all just happened a few minutes ago, but right now, the story no longer seemed like it had happened to her. "So, the other person in the elevator with me was a guy."Ugo nodded. "Obviously, otherwise you would have attempted texting me back. No matter how curt your reply would be. Plus your first reply to my text stated that he was a man."Daisy kept talking so she wouldn’t lose her nerve. "A cute guy.""Daisy, come on..... spill the facts now. Of course he was cute. He wouldn’t have even known of the existence of the chocolates, crackers and wine in your bag if he wasn’t. But I feel like that’s not the end of this story. Wait." Ugo looked Daisy up and down. "That dress looks like it is easy to get in and out of. I am going to be so proud of you if you had a quickie in the Royal-Crest hotel elevator.Daisy gasped. "Ugo!, ew, no!"Ugo sighed. "I knew that was too much to hope for my decent friend."Daisy's hand tightened around her glass. Now she was a decent friend for not throwing her clothes off for a stranger in an elevator. "I’m not decent in the way you're making it sound," she insisted.Ugo nudged her. "It’s not an insult, Daisy. You know you’ve always been the well-behaved one. The one that talk senses into me when I'm misbehaving."Anyway." Daisy stood up and poured the rest of the champagne into their glasses. "I’m going to be his date to the Mayor's proposed fundraiser this weekend."What?" Ugo froze in place, her face white like she saw a ghost."Well." Daisy smiled. "I shocked you now. That’s a first.""Daisy....are you certain? Do you know him? Who is this guy?""Oh we do. I know him, and you know him too.""We do?" Ugo asked standing up from the bed.She brought the side stool closer to the foot of the bed and faced Daisy. "Who is he?""Brett, Brett Lexington. My Ex!" She rushed into the bathroom, to avoid seeing the horror on Ugo's face.Daisy threw herself into clubbing like it was going out of style. She and Ugo bounced all over downtown clubs from Fairview City to the central, wasting stupid money on VIP spots while having a fabulous time. She threw caution to the wind and danced until her feet felt like they were going to fall off , but she toughed it out until Ugo complained about her legs first. They had just stumbled out of a Lucris club with a plan to buy flip-flops at any nearby store when they ran across a hawker promoting a lounge a few blocks away."Great place to get off your feet for a while," he said, without the usual flashy smile or exaggerated hype most of the club hawkers employed. His clothes did not look cheap and this intrigued Daisy.Coupled with the fact that the man didn't have flyers or postcards. He only handed them a thick and well made card that looked like a VIP business card of some sort. Ugo squinted down at the lettering, having a few more drinks in her than Daisy, she forced her vision to focus on the tiny card handed to them."Looks swanky." She commended."Show them that card at the entrance," the hawker urged. "You'll skip the queue.""Sweet." Ugo linked arms with Daisy and dragged her along. "Let's go. You might find a quality guy in a swanky joint, hopefully you knock that stupid ex of yours out of your fuckin mind."Daisy's feet were on fire by the time they found the place, but she immediately quit bitching when she saw the charming entrance. The line to get in was quite long, extending down the street. Sia's soulful voice drifted out of the open door, as did well-dressed customers exited with big smiles. True to the hawker's word, the card was a magic key that granted them immediate and free entrance.A gorgeous hostess led them upstairs to a quieter VIP bar that overlooked the stage and dance floor below. They were shown to a small seating area by the balcony and settled at a table hugged by two half-moon velvet sofas. The hostess propped a beverage menu in the center and said, "Your drinks are on the house. Enjoy your evening.""Wow!" Ugo whistled. "We scored.""I think that hawker recognized you from one of your court cases. Because how the hell are we getting such VIP treatment when we're yet to spend a dime." Daisy said out loud."Wouldn't that rock." Ugo grinned. "Or it could be the chef guy.... That dude is full of surprises. I've gotten too many gifts than I can't count since I met him. Yet, he's not interested in hitting this ass." "He could be pretending." Daisy fixed in. "Or taking it slow. The good old ways. He might be hoping to win you over thoroughly before making a move. In order words, he wants you to....""Loose my damn guard. Mmmm, not happening, not gonna happ
For the first time in a very long while, the Accident and Emergency unit at the Queens appeared empty. It felt like an unusual day as the crowd thinned out, leaving the health workers with a few patients placed on observation. Paige Patterson watched the last outpatient leave, and she sighed. A normal day at the Queens was characterized by the loud crowd at the A&E, the voluminous number of patients at the Out-patient-department, which was unfortunately built beside the hospital's A&E. The noise from these two departments were enough to make one go nuts. Yet the likes of Paige found themselves already used to it, as it was now part of their daily life. She whispered to her colleague before standing up and making her way down the mini corridor that led directly to the OPD. Seeing how calm and scanty the waiting rooms were, she stared in shock, telling herself that something was definitely wrong. The OPD had always been the busiest department in the whole hospital. And in a bid to
Paige had spent the next couple of days thinking about Nathan's proposal. It did sound too good to be true, but he already told her that it was real. She made a mental calculation of all the things she could do with some of that money and at the end of the day, she realized that she desperately needed the money more than anything she could think of.So, that was the only thing required for her to arrive at a decision. She had to take the job, since it was just for three months, she was going to be done in no time. With the decision made, two days later, she drove down to her family home to see her step-mother and sister, the only family she had left, and possibly let them know of her intending absence with no plan of telling them the exact purpose of her absence."We heard about the new job offer." Veronica told Paige, dashing the poor girl's hope of keeping the reason for her upcoming absence a secret. She had sent for Paige on hearing about the temporary job offer from Paige's boyfri
"Did you go through the contract carefully? I had an extra copy explained and written out in plain sentences for you by the Lawyer. The rewritten pages were attached to the original contract. Did you see them?" Nathan asked Paige on phone "Yeah, I saw them and he did a great job. I almost had a migraine reading the original contract. Thanks for the thoughtfulness." Paige replied to the receiver on the other end of the line. "I'm glad you like what she did. So, when are you sending over the signed contract?" "I'm actually done with it, I'll send it down in a bit. It will be delivered to you at the hospital soon." She replied."That was fast. Are you sure you went through it properly? I mean there was this clause that stated that you must work with them for a month before getting your first pay and payments are made every two weeks. Did you read that?" Nathan asked, not a bit convinced that she had gone through the piece carefully. The Paige he knew would have spoken about these thing
In the early hours of the morning, just before the sun rose and cast its golden ray across the sky, Paige drove her Kia Rondo down to Yardstin. The past few days had been very hectic for her, from checking and balancing stock at PB, to packing her bags and making sure that she didn't forget anything, then reporting to work to pick up her leave permit which was stress free and successful. She knew her journey to Yardstin was definitely going to be a long one but she didn't care. Having spent lots of money trying to get decent hand-me-down clothes and shoes, she was almost penniless. There was no way she could afford a flight to Yardstin hence her reason for being on the road battling with minimal traffic and struggling with a road map The engine of her Kia Rondo which she named Charlotte roared softly as she drove through the streets of Acubana. Gentle and cool air seeped through the not so closed windows of Charlotte. Paige turned on the music player to beat the quietness. 'You're j
'You ought to mind your business.' The voice screamed in her head again. But, that didn't make her walk away. She stood right there, prying on other people's privacy. Although at a point, she refused to agree that what those two were doing was private since they left the door open. Yet she knew that was a lame mental argument she was trying to put up in her head, just to feel less guilty of what she was presently doing.Suddenly, Simon moaned quite loudly and clenched his muscles. Watching him from behind was a big torture for Paige already. But seeing those muscles of his move to rigidity drove her mad with want. He finally fell on the bed gasping for air.And the weirdest thing happened. Simon's partner caught a glimpse of Paige at the door. She smiled lazily before giving her sultry wink.Quickly, Paige bolted off from the door and found her way downstairs. After the scene she just witnessed, she knew she needed to create a reasonable amount of distance between herself and Simon
"Nonsense! Just call me Emily. I feel so old when you refer to me as Mrs. Kentley. And it sounds too formal too." Emily complained as she exercised the next morning alongside Paige.Emily was one great woman full of life and vibe. They ran the treadmill as they talked about everything and nothing. The Kentley's mansion houses a gym, a music studio, a mini cinema that could contain at least twenty people, a swimming pool, a Garden, a tennis court, a football pitch and a mini playground. It was indeed an all in one kind of home. Once again, Paige reminded herself that money was good."I'd love to call you mother if you don't mind." She told Emily. Since she would feel so odd calling the woman Emily. "That sounds far better." Emily agreed. In no time, they finished at the gym and went to their various rooms for a quick shower. Paige spent the previous night unpacking and getting used to her space, and she planned on spending the whole day with Emily. She made a draft of the best type of
It's been eight days in The Kentley's Mansion and Paige has been nothing but happy and at peace. She made sure to avoid any further encounter with Simon by avoiding the garden totally and timing herself to know the best time to either go up to her room or leave her room for downstairs. She also ensured to always be in an open space, surrounded by at least help whenever he was around. As she promised herself to be on her best behavior and not allow any source of distraction to deter her from carrying out the job she was paid for. Paige sat on one of the chairs in the sitting room as she dialed her boyfriend's number for the thirtieth time that morning. He hasn't been picking her calls and this has been going on for three days. She'd thought it was nothing serious until it lingered till the third day. After the last ring, she placed a call to her secretary at Pai-boxes. "I haven't spoken to Stefan for days now, is everything okay over there?" She asked immediately Aurora picked up.

"I've been doing fine for years now. Please just go back to wherever you're coming from and let me be."Brett moved over to her and crotched down opposite her. "Go on a date with me, over the weekend."Daisy burst into laughter. "Is this guy a joke or something." She asked rhetorically, loud enough to Brett's hearing. "No.""Come on.....""I'm not going on any godforsaken date with you Mr Lexington. Not in your wildest dream.""Okay." he said pushing two open hands forward to calm her down. "Go to a fundraiser with me then. Technically, I wanted you to be my plus-one at the fundraiser organized by the Mayor over the weekend and maybe we could go on a date afterwards. But since you said no date, let's go to the fundraiser together." He offered."No.""Daiz. I promise you, if after the fundraiser, you decide that you don't want to be see me ever again. I won't bother you. Just this once, please?"Daisy became calm for a moment. She looked up at his angelic face and watched him flash a s
CHAPTER 1"What time do you even plan on getting here. Are you sure you're still coming?" Daisy listened to Ugo whine over the phone."I'm all dressed up already. You'll see me soon, I promise. I just had a really stressful day at work and I had to make a quick stop at home to get into a more comfortable footwear." she tried explaining. Pushing the door of her walk-in closet close, she pulled a black leather jacket across her black singlet, sat on the bed and bent low to buckle her sandals when she heard Ugo's next words."You're changing footwear? Don't tell me you plan on wearing any of those boring flat sandals of yours.""Something wrong my flats?" "Really, you're going to ask me that." Ugo boiled."We're going out to celebrate for crying out loud. You have to look the part. Put on a pair of those gorgeous Louboutins you got there. Why do you splash so much money on exotic footwear when you don't wear them.""Hello, are you forgetting something? You're forgetting that you make me

Paige was more shaken than she cared to admit. Somehow she did not expect Stefan to openly confess his infidelity. She had thought perhaps he would attempt to deny it."Why, Stefan?"He reached for her hands, but she pulled them out of his reach. "Why, Paige? Because you were always so unapproachable. There were times when you turned me on, made me so hot that I thought I was going to explode... and ......... and then you would just put up that damned 'don't touch me' shield. And when you did that I had to have someone else. Any woman.""You're a liar, Stefan. Why didn't you tell me that you wanted me?"He managed a winning smile. "I guess way back in my head I wanted to save you for marriage."Paige's smile was cynical and sinister. "It's too bad you didn't save Aurora, because I'm history, Stefan Riley."She stood up, holding her glass. Stefan never had time to react when she walked to his side and emptied the glass in his lap.She replaced the glass on the table, smiling. "That shou
The next morning, Paige woke up to an empty bed. Simon didn't come in throughout the night and she was just too stubborn to go to him. She sighed, had a quick shower and left to grab a quick coffee in the kitchen. Veronica was prepping their breakfast when she showed up and she took two biscuits from the freshly baked ones and cup of coffee."Have a nice day Mrs. Veronica." She called."You too ma. But won't you eat something better than just biscuits? I'm baking banana bread." She called after Paige."Yummy, keep some for me. I'll be back in a couple of hours." She replied from the living room. She scanned the house and saw no trace of Simon. Gulping down her coffee and biscuits she rushed to the kitchen to wash the cup but it was taken by Veronica. "I'll do that ma'am." She offered. "Thank you so much." She grabbed her phone and sent Simon a quick text telling him where she was headed before opening the door. Nicon appeared almost immediately, neatly dressed and ready to go wher
They floated together, each motion smooth and fluid as if the music had been choreographed just for them and them alone. Unspoken whispers and desires raced back and forth, telegraphing a savage hunger, a desperate need. Their bodies were in perfect harmony. Paige needed and Simon fed her.The desire to share her body with Simon Kentley surpassed all reason and common sense. But at that moment common sense was what Paige lacked most. She wanted to experience the waves of ecstasy he had given her earlier; she wanted the peace Simon offered, and in turn she would give him the love he sought from a woman. The musical selection ended and Simon led Paige through the throng. The next number was a rocking, upbeat tempo which got everyone to their feet, moving in time to the pounding, driving rhythm.Simon caught Tenor's arm. "We'll be on our way now.""You're leaving?" Tenor asked. Simon nodded, and Paige was as surprised as Tenor. "Give them whatever they want," he informed Tenor."You're
Fiona boldly walked up to them and flashed a smile."Who the hell let this pest in for god's sake." Simon swore under his breath making Paige giggle. "Hi Mr. Kentley." Fiona started with her annoying voice. "Miss Ruben, how are you?" Simon called coldly but Fiona did not seem to notice the coldness in his voice. "I'm managing to survive." She replied. Leaning forward, she peered at Paige. "Hi there, it's you again." She smiled "Won't you introduce us officially Mr. Kentley. I mean we're all here because of her." She said, draping her arm on Simon's hand.He gently removed her arm. "Miss Ruben, this is Paige Patterson, my girlfriend."A frown marred Fiona's beautiful face. "Your girlfriend." She murmured in annoyance."Fiona's father is a business pal of my dad's," Simon stated, deliberately ignoring Fiona. "This woman is no fucking girlfriend of yours!" Fiona shouted.Paige reacted as if she had been shot. Fiona's voice was strident, hysterical. Heads turned in their direction.Sim
