05. Her Second Meeting with Benedict Easton

"You're Miss Evelyn, aren't you? I've been looking for you, but you seem to be hiding," Adam said with a slight smile to Evelyn.

However, for some reason, Evelyn became frightened. Was Adam also after her because she had overheard his conversation with the doctor yesterday? Was he going to do something terrible because he feared Evelyn would spread the news?

"I want to confirm something, so you must come with me." Evelyn felt that she was now trapped between two people who were after her, and this was worse than she had imagined. She might truly have no hope of living or escaping from Adam and Grace.

Escaping from Grace alone was already difficult enough for her, so how could she possibly escape from Adam?

"What are you doing? Acting so brazenly, wanting to take her away. Get out of here quickly!" said Grace, annoyed because Adam had suddenly arrived and wanted to take Evelyn away.

"Eve, would you rather go with a stranger like him? Isn't that more frightening?" Evelyn felt like laughing at her stepmother's words. More frightening? How amusing, Evelyn thought it was more terrifying to live haunted by Grace than to face her own death. So nothing could be more frightening than that.

Ignoring Grace's words, Adam stepped closer to Evelyn, his hand reaching for hers, but Hugo quickly stopped him.

"What are you doing, sir?" he asked, somewhat challengingly.

"Crazy man! Don't pay attention to him, and bring Evelyn inside," Grace ordered again.

"No, no. Sir, please let me go. I promise I'll do anything; I don't mind if you want to kill me. I'd rather die, Sir," Evelyn pleaded with tears streaming down her face, her hand already pulled by Hugo, continually looking at Adam, hoping he would help her.

At least Adam could free her from Evelyn; she didn't care what Adam would do to her. Evelyn just wanted to escape from Grace.

"You really are a foolish girl, Eve," Grace taunted. "What's wrong with marrying Mr. Marco?"

"No, I don't want to! Don't take me away!" Evelyn shouted. Not wanting to get into the car, Evelyn sat down on the asphalt, making it difficult for Hugo to take her away.

"Miss, don't do this," Hugo said, but Evelyn didn't listen. She was too weak; this was the only effort she could make.

"Just drag her." Because of Grace's order, Hugo, who was about to drag Evelyn's body roughly, was stopped by a hand.

"Stop," said that voice. He then pulled Evelyn's hand and embraced her already limp body. Evelyn seemed to be losing consciousness.

"What are you doing? Why are you taking her away as you please!" Grace, who couldn't accept it, was about to pull Evelyn away from Adam. But Adam suddenly pulled out a gun and pointed it at Grace. Grace and her subordinates had already taken steps back; it seemed this time they had to give up.

"Let her go with me; there's someone who needs to meet her," Adam said again. Adam's words were the last words Evelyn heard. After that, everything went dark, and she had completely lost consciousness.

In her dream, Evelyn could see Grace sitting with her frightening smile. That woman waved her hand again.

"Eve, congratulations on your wedding. Because of you, my life from now on will be very comfortable. Enjoy your hellish life!" she said, with a laugh that terrified Evelyn.

"No, I don't want to! No!" Evelyn screamed, turning her body to see an old, fat man grabbing her hair and dragging her away.

"Let me go, damn it!" Evelyn kept screaming until, unconsciously, she shouted in her sleep and then immediately opened both eyes. She was breathing heavily, her body covered in sweat, looking around warily, thinking she had been taken by Grace.

"You're awake?" A man's voice was heard, and Evelyn, frightened, immediately crawled backward to the corner of the room, her body already trembling.

"Who are you? Where am I? Are you one of Grace's henchmen?" asked Evelyn, not remembering that before she fainted, she had been taken by Adam.

The man just sat quietly in the chair, his gaze seeming empty, which confused Evelyn. Moreover, the man didn't appear to be looking at her.

"I remember your voice, and also your face on the day of the accident," said the strange man, confusing Evelyn. What did he mean? On the day of the accident? At that moment, Evelyn finally remembered. She looked at the man's face and just realized that he was the man she had saved, but what was different now was that his eyes could no longer see her.

"Do you remember now?" asked the man.

"I'm sorry..." Evelyn whispered.

"Why are you apologizing? Because I'm blind, you're apologizing?" The man laughed between his words, but Evelyn could tell that it wasn't a laugh of joy. The man seemed sad, but also angry.

"Adam!" he shouted, making the bedroom door open and Adam walk in.

"I hear you're the only person who knows I had an accident and became blind," the man continued, making Evelyn realize. Were they going to do something to prevent her from spreading this news? Her fear grew even more, and she got down from the bed and knelt before the man. She couldn't hold back her tears.

"Sir, I promise I won't tell anyone about this news. I will keep it a secret for the rest of my life. I do want to die, but let me escape first. Let me experience living normally," Evelyn said while crying uncontrollably.

"I just want to live..." Evelyn sobbed while holding onto the man's leg.

"I didn't say anything about that; I haven't even spoken completely," said the man. From his voice, the man seemed confused and also surprised. He was also a bit touched by Evelyn's words saying that she wanted to live.

"Stand up, I won't do anything bad to you. On the contrary, because you saved me, I want to tell you something." The man's words now made Evelyn raise her head, looking at the man who had now put on a smirk.

"Oh, and I haven't introduced myself, have I? My name is Benedict Easton; you may have heard of my family name." Evelyn's eyes widened; so what she had thought at the hospital was true? This man was one of the famous Easton family?

"Evelyn Hart, don't just kneel there silently. I have something important that you might need to consider for the life you want. I have a great offer." Again that smile; what kind of offer did Benedict want to discuss with Evelyn?
