**Evelyn**

I hadn't seen or spoken to father since the day I found out he had never trusted me with the Bratva or family business. Since the day I realized nothing I did for this man would ever be enough. Looking at him now, he looked like he'd gotten 10 years older when it has in fact only been less than a month.

“Evelyn," Dad called again, moving his hand from my shoulder to my face and I turned away from him.

"Father, it is a surprise seeing you here,” I said, facing forward. By now, I could see the people throwing us subtle glances and I sighed. “Take a seat, Father. I can't have any bad press around me."

Father sighed as he took the seat beside me and I completely ignored him. My eyes constantly drifted to the bottle of wine beside Killian. He had his hand wrapped around the bottle and he shot me a warning glare when he noticed me staring.

Soon, a familiar couple walked up to us. The man looked stoic while the woman was all smiles. They were accompanied by a young girl about my age who looked like she would like to be here as much as I'd like to be with Killian.

“Mr McIntyre, I'm glad you could make it," Killian said, standing up from his seat. He put his hand out to me and I put mine on his as he pulled me up gently before wrapping a hand around my waist again as we walked closer to the couple.

“Ah, Killian, it was last minute. I just had to witness how much you've grown. Evelyn, how are you doing?” Mr McIntyre asked, smiling at me. Mr McIntyre reminded me of Killian a lot. Both cold hearted yet knew how to manipulate you into thinking they were not.

"I'm okay,” I answered, nonchalantly as my eyes drifted over the crowd still trying to find how I could get wine. Killian’s fingers pressed into the side of my back and my attention came back to them.

“Aria, how have you been? It's been quite a while," Killian asked to the girl beside the couple. I furrowed my eyebrows as I assessed the girl. Aria McIntyre, adopted daughter of the McIntyres. Aria was always kept in the shadows of the mafia business. She was the exact definition of what a mafia man would want for a wife.

“I'm all good. I didn't know you'd gotten married," She said

“Yes, meet my wife, Evelyn Karamazov. Evelyn, meet Aria. A childhood friend," Killian introduced.

“Hi," Aria said, smiling at me. I noticed a sheen of hurt flash through her eyes but it disappeared as quick as lightening. Aria liked Killian. I smirked as I waved at her. That's one thing to shelf for later.

“Well, Evelyn and I will go back to our seats now. Let the waiters show you yours," Killian said, nodding his head and smiling.

“Wait, Killian, I want to talk to you in private. Now," Mr McIntyre said. Killian nodded immediately then looked at me as a sky smile made it's way to my face. With Killian gone I could sneak some wine. He narrowed his eyes at me then called one of his men. He whispered something to him and then released me.

The man followed me back to my seat and by now I could already guess what Killian had done so I started thinking of ways to distract the guard.

"Evelyn, I want to talk to you,” Father said.

"And I don't want to talk to you.” I answered as the wheels in my head turned.

"Please. I'm begging you. It's a matter of life and death. Zhizn moya, I'm dying…” Father said, his voice breaking towards the ending of his sentence. I whipped my head up to stare at him and then looked around us to confirm nobody heard us.

"What?”

"Let's talk in private, Evelyn. Come,” Father said, standing up and taking me with him. The guard stepped to our front but I sneered at him.

“Move. Now," I said. The guard remained stoic. I sighed and pushed a strand of hair away from my eye, “Move now or else I'm going to scream and when Killian asks what the matter was, I'll implicate you. Be a good dog and fucking move," I growled. The guard hesitated then reluctantly stepped aside.

Father and I hurried towards the hall then went to a door at the far end of it. Immediately we entered, he began to say something but I raised a finger to my lip. I brought out my phone and began playing music at a loud volume then searched the room for listening devices. I found none and was finally satisfied.

“Talk. You have five minutes," I said, glancing at the watch on my hand.

“I'm sorry, Evelyn. I didn't know it would turn out like this. If I knew you'd have married this man and not Maxim, I wouldn't have put that clause in—" I scoffed when he said that.

“You're not even sorry. Do you know what hurts dad? That you couldn't tell me the truth. You blackmailed me into marrying Maxim and if I had married him I'd have only discovered about it then. You're being selfish,” I said.

"Selfish? Evelyn, you call me selfish? I've done everything for you. When other mafia princesses were learning how to be the perfect mafoa wife, I indulged you and let you do what you want. I let you lead. I gave you wings. When your mother died, I raised you all on my own. I became your father and mother—”

" Yet you didn't tell me she was killed. No, scratch that, you didn't tell me it was my husband who killed her. So much for doing everything for me , Father,” I said, feeling heat in my eyes and stalking out of the room as I grabbed my phone. As I walked down the hallway, I scoffed. We didn't even talk about what he wanted to tell me.

“Some shit father I have— ahh," I yelled as I was dragged into a room or wait no, the bathroom? The person had their hand wrapped around my waist and the other one on my mouth as they dragged me into the bathroom and pinned me to the wall. I found myself staring into the most beautiful pair of blue eyes I'd ever seen.

"I’m going to remove my hand from your mouth if you promise not to scream, hm?” his deep baritone said and i nodded. “Good girl," he said, removing his hand and then caressing my cheek.

“Who are you?" I asked, carefully

“Hm, good question. You can either call me Luca," he said, putting his hand in his pocket, “or savior." As he brought out a brand new phone. My eyes instantly widened as I realized he was the one sending me those emails.

“So tell me, which is it going to be?"

“Luca." I replied. Teaching out for the phone, I add, “I like to think of myself as my own savior. Your help is appreciated though.

“Funny—"

“Evelyn, are you in there? What are you doing?" Killian’s voice came through. I instantly panicked as my hands went to the one around my waist and tried to shove it away.

“You have to leave now. He'll kill you," I said.

“Worried for me?" Luca asked. I scoffed and rolled my eyes. Luca tucked my hair behind my ear and stepped back. Taking one of my hands in his, he pulled off the cloth covering his face and my air instantly cut off. If Killian was handsome in a wicked way, this man was handsome in a classical way. Chiseled jaw, mild stubble and seductive lips. He smirked as he placed a kiss on my hand.

“I hope to see you soon, Duchess."

Do you not trust me, Father?" I said, trying my best to keep my voice at a respectful tone. We were in the midst of The Family. The Family were Father's most trusted men and advisors. Disrespecting him in front of them would bring punishment upon me. I had far more to focus on than that.“Keep your voice down, Zhizn moya,” Father ordered, gently. I pursed my lips and waited for him to offer an explanation. "I do not have much longer to stay and I need to ensure the family business is in good hands. You are a woman.
