I placed back and forth, running my hands through my hair as I looked out the window for the umpteenth time.

It was four hours past Kian's closing time at school and yet, he isn't back. It was only then I realized that he didn't even have my address nor my number. Why did I not even think of this?

“Calm down, Lilah. I'm sure they'll be back in no time. You're just worrying for nothing.”

I turned towards her and frowned. “How can you be so sure? What if… what if he takes him away, Mel? What if he never brings my son back? What the hell was I thinking when I let him–” I couldn't complete my sentence as I choked on a sob.

“You had no choice, Lilah,” Mel said gently, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “You had no choice. You had to let Kian spend time with his father. I'm sure he wouldn't have let you off easily if you had told him no.”
