Like they always say, wishes don't always come true. In my case, it never does. Because here I was two weeks later, getting prepared for the breeding ceremony. I could swear that two weeks ago was yesterday. There was a knock on my door, snapping me from my thoughts. “Lilah, are you ready? The ceremony will begin soon, dear.” Nana's voice called out behind the door. Not wanting her to see my tears, I quickly wiped them from my face and applied a touch of makeup. I walked out of my little room and came face to face with a worried-looking Nana. I tried to smile, but I knew she could see right through it, as if my trembling lips hadn't given off exactly how I felt about all of this. “Everything is going to be okay, darling.” Nana said, pulling me into a comforting hug. I leaned more into her touch and couldn't help but feel like this was the last time I would ever get to have her this close to me. “I don't know, Nana. I don't know.” I murmured into her hair. Not even a second later, our door suddenly burst open, and two bulky men barged into our home before I could blink. They proceeded to grab both of my arms and speak in a thick voice. “The ceremony is starting soon; we need to leave.” I nodded my head in understanding. “Can I at least have one moment with my grandmother? I won't take long, I promise.” I pleaded with them, trying to shrug away from their strong grip. The look one of the men gave me was enough to make me shrink to the ground. “We don't have time for this nonsense. You had as much time to do that earlier. It's time to leave.” Before I could say one more word, I was dragged out of the house, and they turned a deaf ear to my wails. The one thing I regretted was not telling my grandma how much I loved her before leaving. because it felt like this was the last time we'd ever get to see each other in a long while. ***** We reached the town square faster than I expected. I could see some of the other girls standing and also awaiting their faith. It was only then that all of this felt all too real. Goosebumps appeared on my skin as the men led me towards the girls. Most importantly, the one girl that hated me the most in our little community, Jessica. As soon as we were left alone, Jessica sneered as she looked at me with disgust written all over her face. “I wonder why they would allow such an ugly thing to stand beside us for the breeding season. I bet the Alphas wouldn't even look at her twice before rejecting her! I mean, look at her! Who would ever want someone like her?” She said it loud enough for the rest of the girls to hear. They all laughed at Jessica's words and nodded their heads in agreement. I ducked my head down in shame as my cheeks flamed in embarrassment. I knew I didn't want to get chosen by any of the Alphas, but that didn't stop me from feeling hurt by their words. Who wouldn't feel that way when you've been called ugly by the people who were supposed to always have your back? This was pretty much the reason why I never had anyone to call a friend in this pack. They all hated me for reasons that are still a mystery to me to this day. They naturally despised me, and the thought stung, but there was nothing I could do about it. All my life, it was only my grandmother and me. But I wasn't complaining; I would give everything to go back to living a low-key life with my grandma. “Silence!” The girls' laughter immediately stopped the sound of the authoritative voice. “If you all know you want to live to see the dawn of tomorrow, you will not take this ceremony as a joke! I hope you have not forgotten the events of last year's breeding season.” He warned, looking at us sternly. We all knew the rumors about how girls were brutally killed during the last breeding season. I could still remember hearing the screams and cries of girls from my house. I wouldn't want such a thing to happen to me. “Blindfold all of them. The Alphas will be here any second from now.” He instructed the guards, and they immediately started blindfolding us. A few minutes later, all I could see was black. The air suddenly got thick, and I knew it was time. The air was replaced with that of power and authority, and I could perceive the different scents of alphas. They were here. One of us would be chosen by an alpha and forced to be his breeder. I stood silently and clamped my lips tightly shut, afraid of letting any sound slip out. An Alpha stood in front of me; he didn't even bother to inspect me carefully before moving on to the next person. The smell of my fear disgusted him, and I knew he wouldn't want a pup from a "weak she wolf." I breathed a sigh of relief. I just hoped the smell of my fear would continue to disgust every single one of them. But like they say, nothing ever goes as planned. My blood suddenly ran cold as I felt another presence behind me. I got a whiff of his masculine scent, and my knees threatened to buckle beneath me. I felt intoxicated and lightheaded. And the possibility of being chosen by this unknown man behind me was sitting at the back of my mind. He couldn't possibly choose me, could he? I have nothing to offer. He should be disgusted like the other Alphas, too. But he wasn't. Sweat broke out on my skin, but I didn't dare make any movement. Alphas were the most feared creatures in the world, and with one little mistake from my side, my neck could be snapped easily without him breaking a sweat. Yes, Alphas were evil. I froze as I suddenly felt a cold palm on my neck. I was abruptly turned to my side, baring my shoulder blade to him. I heard a sharp intake of breath, and my blindfold was suddenly ripped from her face. My eyes were still shut tightly as my heart pounded so loudly that I was sure he could hear it. I refused to believe this was happening to me. If this was a dream, then I desperately wanted to wake up from it. Slowly, so very slowly, I began to open my eyes, and the first thing I noticed was his golden eyes. The world stilled as I suddenly got lost in his eyes. In my twenty-one years of living, I have never seen such a pair of eyes before. They were golden, literally. His eyes were made of gold. Then realization finally dawned on me. It was him. The Alpha, whose name was feared all over the world, The Alpha was known for bloodshed, killings, and ruthlessness. The Alpha, who had the most unique eyes that had never been heard of, even tried all they could to know where his eyes originated from, but all attempts proved futile. He was the Alpha of all Alphas. “Found you, mate.” He whispered huskily into my ear. As soon as those words slipped off his lips, I felt my entire world go dark as I slipped into unconsciousness. I was chosen by Alpha Azriel, the Golden Alpha. And he was my mate.D E L I L A H“She looks so small and fragile. He is no good for her. He would kill her.” “I agree,” Another voice said. “He's a monster and she looks so innocent. I just hope she would be able to melt his cold heart.” I woke up with a groan, hoping the voices would stop. And it did. I slowly opened my eyes to take in my surroundings. I was lying on a soft bed in a large, ornately decorated room. I sat up and looked around, taking in the luxurious furnishings and the opulent decorations. Everything was so foreign to me, so far removed from the simple life I had known in my small pack. The door creaked open, it was a woman, a maid by the looks of her, carrying a tray of food. The two other women in the room looked at me strangely before scrambling out of the room like someone was hot on their tails. "Good morning, my lady," the maid said, setting the tray down on the bed. "I hope you slept well."I blinked in confusion. Lady? Why was this woman calling me lady? And what was I even d
D E L I L A HToday made it the second day of my stay at the GoldenCrest Pack and each day that passed made me more miserable and anxious. Here I was, all alone in a strange land. I knew Azriel had assured me that my grandmother was in perfect condition but I couldn't help but be worried. What if something happens to her when no one was around? I knew I had to make a decision. And fast. I couldn't stay here and let him decide my fate. I didn't ask for this and I definitely wasn't going to sit by and allow him use me however he wanted. I got out of my room and walked down the stairs. The interior of the house was jaw dropping, it was literally made of gold. What was Azriel's obsession with gold? His whole house seemed to be covered in them. Perhaps there was something more to it? It just couldn't be because of the fact that his eyes were also made of gold.Or was I really just making a fuse out of nothing?I shook my head and walked further down the stairs. The scent of food immediat
D E L I L A HI ran and ran, my heart pounding heavily in my chest as I fled from my mate, Azriel. I refused to be used as his breeder, determined to escape from his pack. With renewed hope surging through me, I pushed myself harder. However, it wasn't long before I heard the sound of Azriel's footsteps closing in on me.I picked up my pace, hoping to outrun him, but my efforts proved futile. I could feel his hot breath on my neck, and I knew I had to think fast. Frantically searching for an escape route, I scanned the surroundings, but all I could see were trees and bushes. Then, suddenly, the sound of Azriel's footsteps disappeared. It was hard to believe - had he given up? Afraid it might be a trap, I didn't dare look back. I continued running until the sun began to set, casting a dark shadow across the sky.Unsure of my destination, I knew I had to keep moving. Every second was precious, and I couldn't afford to waste any time. Finally, as night fell and darkness enveloped the sur
Loud howls of pain and the sickening sound of bones cracking pierced the air as I stood frozen, watching in awe and disbelief as my mate, Azriel, underwent a magnificent transformation. Before me, he morphed into a majestic, golden wolf. My eyes widened with shock, and my mouth hung open in astonishment at the breathtaking sight before me. The wolf's fur radiated an ethereal glow, illuminating the darkness around us. Its towering height cast a shadow over me, and its eyes, still the familiar golden hue but now tinged with a darker shade, pierced through my soul. In a split second, the wolf darted forward, closing the distance between itself and one of the vampires—Durcam. With a menacing display of sharp canines, Azriel unleashed a powerful roar, locking his teeth onto the vampire's neck and tearing it away with a force that sent the severed head tumbling to the ground, mere inches away from me. A scream of terror threatened to escape my throat at the horrifying scene that unfolded
D E L I L A H I dropped the hair comb on the counter and stared at my reflection through the mirror. It was undeniable that I was visibly glowing after drinking Azriel's blood two days ago. I had tried to deny the fact, but there was nothing else that would explain it. What could that mean? And I hadn't seen Azriel for the past two days. It seemed like he was deliberately avoiding me for reasons unknown to me. I needed answers. I wanted to know what drinking his blood meant. I knew my life was never going to remain the same again after crossing paths with him, and the thought scared me. I didn't want anything that would bind me to him. My stance remained unchanged. I never wanted to be anyone's breeder, and what happened two days ago hadn't changed anything. Giving myself one last look, I walked out of the closet in my temporary room. Much to my dismay, Azriel had gotten clothes for me, and now I had loads of outfits that I would probably never wear in "my" closet. He still didn't
A Z R I E L“We are having a meeting in an hour. Inform all the warriors. There would be a penalty for coming late, I expect every single one of them to be in the meeting room before I arrive there. Understood?” I instructed Nolan, my Gamma. “On it, Alpha.” Nolan replied firmly and I ended the call. I dropped the phone on the bed with a heavy sigh. The past few days have been hell for me. What was I saying? The past couple of weeks were hell for me. Delilah had made sure of that. When I had initially thought about having a mate, I definitely didn't expect a fiesty and smart mouthed one.An unconscious smile pulled at my lips as I thought about her. Surely, she was growing on me. There was just something that drew me to her. Even before finding out she was the chosen breeder, there was just something about her that felt so magnetic. The pull was irresistible no matter how infuriating she could be. And I knew she felt it too, but was doing everything within her power to fight it.Well,
A Z R I E L “Alpha, a body has been found in the woods. It was brutally mutilated and unrecognizable.” My fingers tightened around the phone as I read the text from Vikram. I knew who was behind this. Fucking Elijah. I threw the phone across the room, making a cracking sound that someone outside must have probably heard. I was fuming. My body shook with unfiltered rage as I imagined myself strangling Elijah until life died out of his eyes. I've never craved someone else's blood like I did his. The door silently creaked open, making me snap my head towards it's direction. Delilah flinched as soon as she saw my posture but surprisingly she didn't run away like I had expected her to. “Uhm, are you okay?” She asked, her eyebrows crinkling with… worry? I wasn't in the mood for her games this morning. “I'm fine. Go to your room.” I gritted out, dismissing her. “But—” “Just go to your fucking room, Delilah. Do as you're told for once!” She flinched at my tone and immediately left th
D E L I L A HWe were back at the mansion. Azriel got out of the car as soon as it came to a stop and walked into the hours with his shoulders slumped. I immediately rushed after him to see him heading towards the bar. He brought out a bottle of whiskey, sat down on the barstool and began chugging the drink down right from the bottle.“What are you doing?” I asked, walking over to him, hoping he would slow down from how much he was drinking. He didn't even wince as the alcohol burned down his throat. “What does it look like I'm doing?” Well, the grumpy Azriel was back. I walked up to him and snatched the bottle from him, drinking it right from the bottle. The taste burned down my throat but I couldn't seem to stop.Azriel raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Stop it, Delilah. Give it back.” He gritted out.I ignored him. “It's all my fault, you know?” I said, already feeling light headed.“What the fuck are you talking about?” He asked in confusion.“That young guy's death, it–”“No,
