The blaring sound of my alarm made me jump from my bed, accompanied by my grandma's scream for my name.I quickly scrambled from the bed and ran towards the sound of her voice. My vision felt foggy and all I saw was blue, but the alarm in her voice was enough to make me worried. My grandma's health was slowly deteriorating and I couldn't afford anything that would make her sicker than she already was.I walked down the stairs to see my grandma holding a paper in her hands with a shocked expression on her face. Her face was as white as sheet as she read whatever was on the paper. What could have her so worried like this?Hearing my footsteps, Nana Alma's head snapped up towards mine. Her olive green eyes that were so much similar to mine wrinkled with worry. “Lilah dear, can you go get me my glasses? I must surely be seeing things.” She said in a fearful tone that I haven't heard her speak in years.“What's wrong, Nana? Are you okay?” I walked closer to her and held her trembling wrinkled hands in mine. She looked pale white and her eyes were widened as if she's seen a ghost. Her olive eyes looked up at me in worry as she caressed my face softly. “I have always feared that this moment was going to come, but I didn't know it would arrive this soon. I can't afford to lose you, Lilah. Not you too. Losing your parents broke me, but losing you would kill me. You're all I have left. I can't lose you. I will never lose you!” Her voice rose up an octave, startling me. My heart clenched at the mention of my parents. I missed them so much and the horrid memory of their death was something I didn't want to remember. I wouldn't be able to control my tears.Right now, I needed to be strong for my grandmother.I was growing more and more confused by her words as the minutes passed. “Nana stop! You're seriously scaring me. You know you shouldn't be stressing yourself like this. Your drugs are barely doing enough and you know how expensive they are...” I trailed off, remembering how many menial jobs I had to do just to get some of Nana's medications.“Can you just tell me what's got you so worked up? Stressing isn't good for your health.” I said, pulling her to sit on her favorite sofa. I quickly ran into the kitchen of our small home to get a glass of water and handed it over to her. She gulped it down hungrily before placing the empty glass on the table with shaky hands.“Are you okay now?” She nodded her head but her face was still white as sheet. “Can you tell me what's going on now?” I asked almost impatiently.“You should read this,” Nana's eyes bored into mine and I could see series of emotions and secrets swirling in her eyes. She stretched out her right hand and handed over the white piece of paper to me.I took the paper from her and read the contents carefully. The further I read, the more my heart started thumping rapidly in my chest. My body grew cold as a cold chill ran through my spine. “N-no—” I slapped a hand over my mouth and tears immediately started to gather at the corner of my eyes.“I'm so sorry, Lilah. I couldn't protect you like I promised your parents. They must be rolling in their graves right now.” Grandma said sadly as a tear rolled down her cheeks.I stood up abrubtly, shaking my head and wishing I could wake up from this dream. But it wasn't a dream, the words were glaring straight at me. “T-this can't be happening to me. I don't want this! Why are they doing this to us? Don't we have a choice over our own life too? This is unacceptable!” I yelled, squeezing the paper with anger.“I'm afraid we don't have a choice, Delilah. This is tradition and neither you nor anyone else can change it. I should have known this was going to come sooner or later. I can't lose you too, you're all I have left!” Grandma exclaimed, her eyes filled with horror.“What am I going to do, Nana? I can't leave you. I don't want to ever leave you.” I cried, feeling completely hopeless. Was this going to be my faith? Will I be claimed and forcefully mated by an Alpha against my own will?Grandma looked at me with pity and I got my answer from her expression. There was no way out of this. I have no choice but to go to the breeding ceremony and hope I don't get chosen by Alphas who wants a baby making machine.“I'm so sorry, Lilah.” Grandma said sadly, her head turned down in shame.I crouched down to her height on the sofa and shook my head at her. “You have nothing to be sorry about, ma. This isn't your fault. It would still happen if you weren't here. I have come of age and I guess it's my turn to do what the other maidens of my age have been doing for years. But, I'm pretty sure I won't be mated to any of the Alphas.” I said with certainty.“What do you mean by that, Lilah?” Grandma asked in confusion.“Look at me, I'm a weak wolf. My wolf can barely compete with the other she wolves. I'm pretty sure the Alphas would want a strong she wolf to breed their pups. I'm not up to those standards, Nana.”Grandma shook her head as if she knew something I didn't. “Do not be blinded by your ignorance, Delilah. You are more than you give yourself credit for, darling.” She caressed my face tenderly with a longing look. I knew she was thinking about the uncanny resemblance I had with my mother. Several times, she had told me how much I reminded her of my late mom.I couldn't control my emotions anymore. I've been pulling this cool facade too much to hide the fact that I was literally broken on the inside. I wanted to be strong, strong for the only family I have left. And I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to do that for much longer. The thought of being away from her terrified me.“Why do you make it sound like you want me to get chosen, Nana?” I said, speaking my mind out loud.“That's not true, darling. I want you to stay with me as long as you wish to. But remember, if it is truly the wish of the moon goddess, then there's nothing we can do about it.” Grandma said with a distant look on her face.I placed my head on her lap and closed my eyes as she ran her hands through my long brunette hair. “Nana?”“Yes, darling?”“I really don't want to get chosen by the moon goddess.” I said sincerely.I only got a deep sigh from her in response. When I thought she wasn't going to speak, her voice finally said. “I'm sorry, Lilah.”I had a feeling that the reason she was sorry had a whole new meaning to it. What does Grandma know that I don't?In a matter of two weeks, my faith would be decided. I've never wished for two weeks to take longer until now.D E L I L A HLike they always say, wishes don't always come true. In my case, it never does. Because here I was two weeks later, getting prepared for the breeding ceremony. I could swear that two weeks ago was yesterday. There was a knock on my door, snapping me from my thoughts. “Lilah, are you ready? The ceremony will begin soon, dear.” Nana's voice called out behind the door. Not wanting her to see my tears, I quickly wiped them from my face and applied a touch of makeup. I walked out of my little room and came face to face with a worried-looking Nana.I tried to smile, but I knew she could see right through it, as if my trembling lips hadn't given off exactly how I felt about all of this. “Everything is going to be okay, darling.” Nana said, pulling me into a comforting hug. I leaned more into her touch and couldn't help but feel like this was the last time I would ever get to have her this close to me. “I don't know, Nana. I don't know.” I murmured into her hair. Not even a
D E L I L A H“She looks so small and fragile. He is no good for her. He would kill her.” “I agree,” Another voice said. “He's a monster and she looks so innocent. I just hope she would be able to melt his cold heart.” I woke up with a groan, hoping the voices would stop. And it did. I slowly opened my eyes to take in my surroundings. I was lying on a soft bed in a large, ornately decorated room. I sat up and looked around, taking in the luxurious furnishings and the opulent decorations. Everything was so foreign to me, so far removed from the simple life I had known in my small pack. The door creaked open, it was a woman, a maid by the looks of her, carrying a tray of food. The two other women in the room looked at me strangely before scrambling out of the room like someone was hot on their tails. "Good morning, my lady," the maid said, setting the tray down on the bed. "I hope you slept well."I blinked in confusion. Lady? Why was this woman calling me lady? And what was I even d
D E L I L A HToday made it the second day of my stay at the GoldenCrest Pack and each day that passed made me more miserable and anxious. Here I was, all alone in a strange land. I knew Azriel had assured me that my grandmother was in perfect condition but I couldn't help but be worried. What if something happens to her when no one was around? I knew I had to make a decision. And fast. I couldn't stay here and let him decide my fate. I didn't ask for this and I definitely wasn't going to sit by and allow him use me however he wanted. I got out of my room and walked down the stairs. The interior of the house was jaw dropping, it was literally made of gold. What was Azriel's obsession with gold? His whole house seemed to be covered in them. Perhaps there was something more to it? It just couldn't be because of the fact that his eyes were also made of gold.Or was I really just making a fuse out of nothing?I shook my head and walked further down the stairs. The scent of food immediat
D E L I L A HI ran and ran, my heart pounding heavily in my chest as I fled from my mate, Azriel. I refused to be used as his breeder, determined to escape from his pack. With renewed hope surging through me, I pushed myself harder. However, it wasn't long before I heard the sound of Azriel's footsteps closing in on me.I picked up my pace, hoping to outrun him, but my efforts proved futile. I could feel his hot breath on my neck, and I knew I had to think fast. Frantically searching for an escape route, I scanned the surroundings, but all I could see were trees and bushes. Then, suddenly, the sound of Azriel's footsteps disappeared. It was hard to believe - had he given up? Afraid it might be a trap, I didn't dare look back. I continued running until the sun began to set, casting a dark shadow across the sky.Unsure of my destination, I knew I had to keep moving. Every second was precious, and I couldn't afford to waste any time. Finally, as night fell and darkness enveloped the sur
Loud howls of pain and the sickening sound of bones cracking pierced the air as I stood frozen, watching in awe and disbelief as my mate, Azriel, underwent a magnificent transformation. Before me, he morphed into a majestic, golden wolf. My eyes widened with shock, and my mouth hung open in astonishment at the breathtaking sight before me. The wolf's fur radiated an ethereal glow, illuminating the darkness around us. Its towering height cast a shadow over me, and its eyes, still the familiar golden hue but now tinged with a darker shade, pierced through my soul. In a split second, the wolf darted forward, closing the distance between itself and one of the vampires—Durcam. With a menacing display of sharp canines, Azriel unleashed a powerful roar, locking his teeth onto the vampire's neck and tearing it away with a force that sent the severed head tumbling to the ground, mere inches away from me. A scream of terror threatened to escape my throat at the horrifying scene that unfolded
D E L I L A H I dropped the hair comb on the counter and stared at my reflection through the mirror. It was undeniable that I was visibly glowing after drinking Azriel's blood two days ago. I had tried to deny the fact, but there was nothing else that would explain it. What could that mean? And I hadn't seen Azriel for the past two days. It seemed like he was deliberately avoiding me for reasons unknown to me. I needed answers. I wanted to know what drinking his blood meant. I knew my life was never going to remain the same again after crossing paths with him, and the thought scared me. I didn't want anything that would bind me to him. My stance remained unchanged. I never wanted to be anyone's breeder, and what happened two days ago hadn't changed anything. Giving myself one last look, I walked out of the closet in my temporary room. Much to my dismay, Azriel had gotten clothes for me, and now I had loads of outfits that I would probably never wear in "my" closet. He still didn't
A Z R I E L“We are having a meeting in an hour. Inform all the warriors. There would be a penalty for coming late, I expect every single one of them to be in the meeting room before I arrive there. Understood?” I instructed Nolan, my Gamma. “On it, Alpha.” Nolan replied firmly and I ended the call. I dropped the phone on the bed with a heavy sigh. The past few days have been hell for me. What was I saying? The past couple of weeks were hell for me. Delilah had made sure of that. When I had initially thought about having a mate, I definitely didn't expect a fiesty and smart mouthed one.An unconscious smile pulled at my lips as I thought about her. Surely, she was growing on me. There was just something that drew me to her. Even before finding out she was the chosen breeder, there was just something about her that felt so magnetic. The pull was irresistible no matter how infuriating she could be. And I knew she felt it too, but was doing everything within her power to fight it.Well,
A Z R I E L “Alpha, a body has been found in the woods. It was brutally mutilated and unrecognizable.” My fingers tightened around the phone as I read the text from Vikram. I knew who was behind this. Fucking Elijah. I threw the phone across the room, making a cracking sound that someone outside must have probably heard. I was fuming. My body shook with unfiltered rage as I imagined myself strangling Elijah until life died out of his eyes. I've never craved someone else's blood like I did his. The door silently creaked open, making me snap my head towards it's direction. Delilah flinched as soon as she saw my posture but surprisingly she didn't run away like I had expected her to. “Uhm, are you okay?” She asked, her eyebrows crinkling with… worry? I wasn't in the mood for her games this morning. “I'm fine. Go to your room.” I gritted out, dismissing her. “But—” “Just go to your fucking room, Delilah. Do as you're told for once!” She flinched at my tone and immediately left th
