AZIZ'S POV
After my conversation with Madame Clinton, I hurried towards the garden overlooking the lake which I learnt over time that it was Mia's favorite place to be in. I know how hard this news of her grandfather's death must have hit her. Mia's someone I've admired for a while now. I almost couldn't believe it when the late Chairman made me swear to him right on his sickbed, entrusting his precious granddaughter in my care. I was about entering the garden when my phone suddenly ring. I paused on my stride and glanced at the caller ID. It's a call from my mother, Mrs Jennie Garrett. Why's she suddenly calling me? I clearly told her not to bother me this morning. "Yes." "Aziz, don't tell me you're really getting engaged to that child! You should know better than that!" Her shrill voice yelled immediately the call connected. "Mother, that's for me to decide. It's my decision to decide with whom I'm gonna be spending the rest of my life with. You shouldn't meddle with my decisions!" I countered, feeling stressed once more because of her. "You...you shouldn't make such decisions on your own! Clearly, that child doesn't love you! You're only gonna get hurt and also you'd hurting Aubrey." "You shouldn't bring her into this conversation mother. Anyway, I've gotta go now." "Aziz wait..." She said and I returned the phone to my ear while frowning in displeasure. "What now mother?" "Your father is home, Aziz. When would you come by?" She said and I sighed. "I'm not sure if that's gonna happen soon." With that, I ended the call and continued towards the garden facing the lake. Only that when I got there, I was once more reminded of the intensity of the late Chairman's Will and how greatly it would affect his granddaughter no matter what choice she makes. I hope she finds the direction and guidance to choose that which is right. I raised my gaze and immediately sighted her sitting by the lake. But she wasn't alone, a guy I'm quite familiar with, was with her. His hands were holding onto her shoulder blades as she nodded smilingly at him. Without anyone introducing him, I know he's Clarion, her best friend from childhood. Whom to her__it's quite obvious__that he's more than just a friend. 'Yet another reason for me to feel so bad for her.'Her grandfather's decisions were supposed to help her but she wouldn't know that. She wouldn't until she's been made to understand why he did so. And only then, would Mia be able to make a decision I hope she would never regret. In the moment of my thoughts, she suddenly glanced ahead and her eyes met mine. Seeing she already saw me, I bowed my head slightly in greeting. Afterwards, I walked towards them.____MIA'S POV Seeing Aziz walked towards us so boldly, I subconsciously held onto Clarion's arm and he noticed. Clarion turned sideways and was surprised to find Aziz here. Of course, he wasn't a stranger to Aziz Garrett's societal status and neither was he unfamiliar with his relationship with my late grandfather. "Ms Stewart, if you don't mind, I'd like to have a word with you." Aziz said and Clarion looked back at me in concern. I nodded slightly to him and he understood. "I'd go bring the others, Mia." He pat my hand gently before he stood up and left. I watched him till he was out of eyesight before I turned back to Aziz. I stood up and faced him directly. "Mr Garrett, it's good you're here. You and I have seldom ever spoken to each other and neither do we even share any sort of relationship between us. I wonder, why or what brought about the idea that we're engaged? If what happened a few minutes ago was some sort of prank, I hope you could go back and tell the others it was a mistake." I said without any restraint, still finding it hard to believe that his words could be real. Staring at him up close, he looks really tall and gorgeous. He even exuded a confident aura that's always been acquainted with him. But that meant nothing to me. "Ms. Stewart, I apologize for the sudden manner in which you heard this news. I'm sincerely sorry. But this was a decision made by the late chairman on his sickbed some hours ago. I know how confused and heartbroken you feel right now but it's not in my place to say more than this for now." He paused and took out a phone from his pocket. Wait, that's mine! "First, I'd give this to you as Madame Clinton requested of me." He handed the phone to me and I received it. When I ran out of the villa earlier, I didn't take my phone with me so Xara must have asked him to help return it to me. "Also, your grandfather asked me to give this to you." He said and I raised my gaze back to him. I watched curiously as he retrieved a big brown, thick looking envelope from his briefcase. The envelope has a seal which looks really familiar to me. It's having grandfather's seal. "The Late chairman hoped you'd understand him a little after going through this." Aziz smiled sadly and handed the envelope to me. Without a word, I collected it from him as I wondered what could be inside. "Then, I'd leave you now, Ms. Stewart. Please contact me after going through it. Let me know your decision." He added. "Okay." I said and he bowed slightly again before he exited the garden, leaving me to brood over the contents from grandfather's parcel.
MIA'S POV I sat down by the lake again and carefully opened and retrieved the contents of the parcel. I was able to pull out about two handwritten letters grandfather had written down for me. I immediately picked up one and got busy reading through it carefully. The content made my eyes feel heavy and cloudy again and it wasn't even three seconds later and I already had tears rolling down my cheeks.Letter 1,To my dearest granddaughter, Mia. "By the time you're reading this, I your precious grandpa wouldn't be a person of this world anymore. I must say I'm proud of the woman you grew up to be. It's been my pleasure to watch you grow up from the little 5 year old to the strong, formidable grown up 23year old lady you're today. Mia sweetheart, your grandpa is super proud of you. I'm so sorry you have to live on without me now. I know it's not going to be easy for you to live in my absence with the rest of our relatives. But you must continue to stand firm and not show weak
NARRATIVE “Here you are!” Melody sighed immediately she sighted Mia curled up at a corner of the dark attic. She took several steps close to the sobbing girl and squatted before her. “Mia,” she began. Mia looked up with tears soaked face and reddened eyes. “Mel, I can’t get married to Aziz. I really don’t want to.” She sobbed. Melody sighed once again. “It’s okay. I understand.” She pulled Mia into her embrace and patted her gently. “We’ll find a way through this Mia. I’d support you… as always.” Melody patted her once more. “For a start, let me take you to your room.”__ Moments after Melody had successfully coaxed Mia to calm down in her room, a knock came on her bedroom door and Melody stood up to answer it. On opening the door and finding Clarion there, she smiled warmly at him and let him inside. She gave Mia an understanding nod before she exited the room, giving them privacy as she closed the door after her. “Clarion I…” Mia stood up from the bed on seeing him
MIA'S POV The door of my room opened and an anxious Melody stepped in. "So, have you decided yet?" She asked knowingly, walking closer to sit with me on my bed. I let my mind wander briefly before I gave her an affirming nod. It's been five days since grandfather's death and earlier today, we had laid him to rest peacefully in a private section of his villa (as he'd requested). During the past few days, I had thought long and hard over his letters and after several painful contemplation, I decided I couldn't get married to Aziz Garrett no matter the reason. "You're sure about this, right?" Melody asked skeptically again. "You're sure you wouldn't regret this decision?" I turned to her, smiling warmly over her concerns. "Don't worry Mel, I've thought about this for long. You know me to some extent," I nodded knowingly at her and she sighed. "Alright then. You should get ready. I would inform the others immediately." She said and I smiled. "Thank you Melod
NARRATIVE "What?! Are you certain about this, Beverly?" Riley asked with widened eyes. She was too shocked and excited at the same time over her maid's sudden information. "I'm certain Ms. I wouldn't dare lie to you." Beverly affirmed, a fawning grin widely spread over her cheeks. "I confirmed it with my eyes. I saw her friend, Melody, take her luggage out of her room and I ran here to inform you as soon as I could." She added gleefully. 'Really? Mia's leaving? If Beverly's right, then I wouldn't have to be worried anymore. I don't have to feel down-casted over her engagement to Aziz. I wouldn't be troubled by her presence anymore.' Riley thought to herself as a smirk appeared over her face. 'Wait, but why's she leaving?' She wondered. 'Anyway, that's not my business. I should inform mother right away.' Riley nodded to herself as she immediately stood up from her bed. She'd go see her mother in the living room where she was busy, entertaining their guests. "This is t

But I can't get married to Aziz when I'm in love with my best friend, Clarion. But it's only a maximum of three years. Isn't that a little sacrifice to save my parents' inheritance and Grandfather's company? Besides,' I glance sideways at Clarion. 'I'm not sure about his feelings. I could be on l
Running in the rain with all the strength she could muster, Mia Stewart had tears rolling down her cheeks in torrents. The rain splashing and wiping against her face succeeded in washing the tears away but it did nothing to stop the continuous flow. Her long blonde hair was wet and dripping chill drops of rain water, while sticking against her scalp and her party mini denim skirt was torn because of how fast she ran amidst the traffic but it didn't matter. Nothing else mattered to her now __ not even the expensive diamond rings she always adorn on her fingers. Mia wasn't the least concerned at this point if she's lost a few of them in her panic. Arriving at the huge exquisite gate of her grandfather's villa, she stopped abruptly as a sudden rush of regret overwhelmed her. If only she hadn't listened to cousin Riley's silly suggestion of going to party with her friends at the popular 'Waves Club' in South Lake Union. If only she had stayed back with grandfather like Xara had
When Mia turned and saw the men, her eyes widened in surprise over their sudden appearance. As her grandfather's most favorite grandchild, and as a fact that she lived with him all her life, she immediately recognized them. One of the largest and top most successful company in South Lake Union extending all over Seattle and even Washington at large. Aziz Garrett was grandfather Mattio's most trusted business partner. Also, he shared a relationship somewhat similar to that of a 'grandson and a grandfather' with the late chairman. The other man, with shiny black hair neatly combed back and dressed in a brown suit was Barrister Grey, her late grandfather's lawyer. However, Mia wasn't the only one clearly familiar with the ident
Turning to face Riley, tears instantly pooled in Mia's eyes. How was she to explain what she couldn't understand herself? "Tell me it's a lie. That this is some kinda joke! You've been dating him secretly all these while is that? You know about my feelings but you went ahead to do such a thing to me. Between us now who's the most cruelest? Ain't that you?!" Riley pushed her hands through her hair as tears rolled down her cheeks. "Dammit Mia! This ain't right! This is betrayal!" "Riley it's not what you think. I'm also..." Mia tried to explain but Riley was quick to interrupt her. "I've always known you didn't care about me. But this...this," She sobbed. "This has to do with my feelings. What about me? You know I've always loved him but you still...you still snatch him too. What about Clarion? Did you lied to me when you told me about him back then?" "Riley..." "You know what?" Riley wiped the tears rolling down her pretty face with her hand. "It turned out you've always been a
