Katherine's POV
" Two cups of coffee, black no sugar." The man said coldly as soon as I appeared at his table.
"On it sir." I nodded and went back to the counter to get his order.
"Busy day?" Jeffrey asked when I relayed the order to him and I nodded. " You know how it is on a Monday."
I know I looked like a ghost but I can't stop now, my baby will be due in a few months. I don't want my pup to suffer. My eyes water as the events of the night came flashing back. He had ordered his guards to throw me out of the pack we grew in because he was tired of me. It's been seven months of me working my ass to make sure I can eat and save for my baby.
"Are you going to stand there looking lost or you'll serve me my coffee." The booming voice of the cold man brought me back from the presence.
"I'm sorry sir." I apologized and he scoffed.
I placed the cups on his table and apologized again.
"I don't know why a heavily pregnant woman like you would be working too hard. Don't you know that it would hurt your baby?" Even though I felt like punching him, I could only smile at him. The customer is always right in an inscription that Jason kept and Mr. Blake isn't just any customer, he was the beta of the silver moon pack. He could make me lose my job without lifting a finger. I can't lose this job not now that I am close to my due date. Not many people would love to have a heavily pregnant lady as one of their staff.
"You should take a break Kat, you look like a ghost."
"I can't Jeffrey and you know it. I need more shifts, my rent is due and I barely even have enough to feed myself for the week."
"Try another place that wouldn't need you to stress yourself out Kat, it isn't good for your baby."
"I know but Jason was the only one that accepted me. No one wants a pregnant woman to work for them." I sighted another empty table and I wobbled my way towards it.
I hated my job, it involved dealing with the worst type of customers and the worst part is that I could barely take care of my needs but there was nothing I could do about it. It was this or nothing. Sometimes, I wished I never had to depend on Caleb. I wished I had done something nice with my degree but I thought it didn't matter because Caleb was Alpha and I was supposed to be Luna. Being Luna was a lot of work and I thought that would be my job all my life.
It was late at night and the cafe was closed.
"Here is your pay." Jason handed me a wad of cash. " And here is your bonus." He placed some coins in my hand.
I counted it and it was barely even enough to make dinner. I guess I have to skip dinner again. It's a good thing that the cafe offers free morning coffee to its staff, I probably would have been dead by now without it.
"What?!" He barked at me, making me jerk.
"You should be glad that we hired you, Katherine. Now get the fuck out of my presence."
"I am sorry." I apologized not knowing the reason I was apologizing.
"Whatever, get out already. I want to go home." He shooed me and I nodded walking towards the door.
"And Katherine?" He called out, making me turn to him with my ears listening in rapt attention.
"You should be as early as the first cock crow tomorrow. We are going to be serving a lot of people." He said not looking at me. I stared at the bunch of cash in his hands and the change in mine. I was being cheated every day in this place. Not that I could leave or I had anyone to complain to.
"Yes, boss," I said and pulled the door. The cold air seeped into my skin as soon as I stepped out of the building and goose bumps appeared on my skin.
I breathed in as I walked into my house. I pressed the switch but the light wouldn't come on. I guess I was cut off for not paying my electricity bills. I head straight to bed not bothering to remove my clothes. My alarm rang too loud forcing me to open my eyes. It hasn't been up to four hours since I closed my eyes.
"Okay, let's get this day done with." I yawned tightly and made my way to the bathroom.
I stared at the empty cupboard hoping that at least one item would appear. I haven't gone shopping for groceries for so long. I can't even afford it.
I guess it was another day to start getting hungry. My stomach growled in protest but I ignored it and reached out for my coat before walking myself out of the house. I hope that we would still be served free coffee or else I might pass out from hunger. The morning sir was too chilly. Even with the aid of the coat, I still felt as though I was in a refrigerator. I felt too sick but I dare not call in sick or Jason would fire me. He already said we were having important guests over this early so I can't disappoint him. Not when I had assured him that my pregnancy wouldn't affect my work.
Either I was too far in my thoughts to notice the approaching car or the driver was too reckless. Whichever the real thing that happened, I found myself on the ground in front of the car.
I heard the sound of the door shutting and feet.
"Ma'am, are you okay?" He said and I stared into his baby blue eyes with concern oozing out of them.
I felt the sparks immediately after his hands touched me but I was too weak to pay attention.
"My…b-baby." I tried to say as I clutched my stomach. His mouth was moving but I wasn't hearing anything. I closed my eyes accepting the darkness that called unto me.
I opened my eyes to find myself staring at the white ceiling. I tried to remember where I was and what I was doing. My memory came flashing back and I sat abruptly. Jason was going to fire my ass and kill me.
"Easy darling or you will hurt yourself." I heard a voice call out to me and I turned to meet his alluring baby blue eyes.
"Mate." He called out again when I didn't respond to his first call. I opened my mouth to say something but my words suddenly got caught in my throat.
I felt a tinge in my lower abdomen. At first, I thought that it was because I hadn't eaten since yesterday. I felt it again and this time, it was more intense. I was undergoing labor? But It wasn't due until two months.
"Baby, are you okay?" I felt him hold me. For a second, I felt calm under his touch but it started again.
"My b-baby…doctor." I tried to say hoping he got what I was trying to say.
"Oh, my goodness. Wait here." His hands left my body.
The pains intensified and became more frequent. I clutched his hand, stopping him on his track. I twisted as the contractions became more intense and unbearable. My fingers grabbed his shoulders trying to draw strength from him. I heard footsteps and through blurred vision, I saw that I was surrounded by people in white coats.
"Please we need you to leave, Alpha." One of them said but the man holding my hand didn't budge.
"How are you feeling? Does it hurt? What do you want." He bombarded me with questions and I felt like screaming at him.
"Please hold still ma'am." Someone said and the only thing I could think of was how to get the baby out of me and stop this unbearable pain before I passed out.
With tears in my eyes, I saw the doctor draw the stranger aside and whisper something to him. What the hell are they talking about? I need this baby out of me!!
"Calm down ma'am. We are opting for a caesarian section cause it seems like you can't push the baby out." The doctor said and I nodded barely listening to what he was saying. I just wanted the baby out of me.
"Don't worry, you will be fine mate. I will make sure of it." He said and brought my knuckles to his lips.
I felt the stinging of a needle then my consciousness drifted off slowly.
I opened my eyes, staring at the ceiling. I was still in the hospital. My hands went down to my stomach but I couldn't feel it. I felt like screaming.
"Honey, you're back." Someone said pulling me into a tight high but not tight enough to suffocate me.
"My baby," I said in an alarming tone.
"He is in the incubator. The pack doctors are giving him the best treatment." He said with a smile on his lips and I heaved a huge sigh of relief. A boy I see.
"Can I see him?"
"Of course." He held out his hand and I placed mine in them. His hand closed around mine as he lifted me gently from the bed.
I stared through the glass as the doctors attended to him. He looked so small and frail.
"Will he be okay?" I asked not removing my eyes from my baby.
"Of course, he would. The doctor assured me that he is receiving the best treatment the pack can offer at the moment." He said and my eyes watered.
"Thank you very much," I said in a whisper.
"It's no problem. You are my mate and therefore my responsibility." He said and I felt a tingling sensation in my stomach.
"I want to carry him."
"Of course." He took me to the changing room and I cleaned myself and wore scrubs and hand gloves. He said it was necessary to keep the baby away from germs.
I stared at my baby. There was no doubt that I loved him. I looked at him and he nodded his head. Then I lifted my baby slowly from the incubator. He felt too small in my arms but I loved him nevertheless. He was too cute.
I can't believe that I carried this cutie in my stomach.
"He is so cute isn't he?"
"Yeah, he is, just like you." I felt my cheeks grow pink as I felt his hot breath over me.
Katherine's POVAs both Caleb and I fell to the ground, funny enough I didn't feel anything different...maybe a wound or puncture or something.Nothing. I felt fine.Caleb immediately rolled off me, inspecting my body for damage but I waved him off with an 'I'm Fine' only for me to look further and see Tyrone's dead, sightless eyes staring up at me.I let out a sound that stemmed from my feelings of shock and horror. He was lying just at my feet with a bullet hole in his head. His face was even frozen in a surprised expression like he couldn't believe it. Pressing a hand to my mouth to retain the whimper, tears sprang up to my eyes.It occurred to me then that Tyrone had pushed us away to take the bullet for us.In other words, he died for us.If only I had listened to him, then he wouldn't be dead! The sound of engines snapped me out of my reverie, pushing me into action when I realized that his murderers were about to flee.Caleb tried to hold me back when I raised 'ready to kill ey
Katherine’s POVI watched everything that happened from afar, too shocked to even move. Was Daniel dead? After Daniel had been placed on the stretcher and taken away, Caleb went berserk. As in spitting mad.I've never seen him so pissed off as he charged at the man that fired the gun which had pierced Daniel's chest. The guy didn't even stand a chance as Caleb pummeled him into the ground, practically tearing him from limb to limb. After that he went wild and started to tear into our opponents, the pain of watching Daniel almost die pushing him. While I was distracted, several men came towards me and one of them had changed into his wolf form.Snatching a grenade off a stash, I ran and threw it behind me because I knew there was no way I could fight them all at once.Unfortunately, I wasn't out of the blast radius yet, and the force of the blast threw me thirty feet into the air. I landed hard on a piece of metal torn off a car and it was painful.I could feel my enhanced healing kick
Daniel’s POVI was on the sidelines when the war started, pretending to assist from the back. When those excuses ran out, I took charge of the men, ordering them to go batch by batch. I was doing everything possible in my power not to go out there. Not only did I not want to be seen as a traitor but the thought of killing and butchering the people I once called friends… turned my stomach.Being here alone made me feel sick but I didn't know how to get out of it without raising Ethan's suspicions. But when Shadow arrived with over two thousand of his men, I had no choice but when Shadow arrived, I had no choice but to fight alongside them. I left the back entrance, and I followed them to fight.Instead of fighting for Ethan, killing Caleb's people I was secretly helping Caleb's men by fighting against Ethan. I had just dodged a blow from one of Ethan's men, rolling to my feet about to stab him in the back when I saw Shadow coming out from Caleb's house with someone in tow. At first, I
Shadow's POVThat kid was like me.That was.He was faster and dare I say, stronger than I was. It was scary to think and after I broke his left, I ran away.Because of two reasons. One I had other plans and two, there was a slight possibility that that kid could beat me in front of my men...it was slightly but I wasn't taking it.Sneaking into Caleb's house was pretty easy to do. Everyone was distracted with either saving their city or their lives, leaving the house wide open.My source informed me that this was the spot, so my steps were sure and measured. With my long coat hiding my build from others, I was able to blend in.There were three men at the entrance of the door. The one closer to me was the first to see me approach and he yelled in warning. Unfortunately for them, he was too slow, and by the time he finished uttering the words, his two colleagues were dead, one with a knife to his throat and the other with a bullet embedded into his forehead. The guy ran back in horror,
Freya's POVIt took almost seven hours before I got close to Caleb's pack. Four hours by bus and three by running on land. Finally, I was close enough to hear it.The sound of violence was even louder than I expected and for a moment, I second-guessed all my decisions that had brought me here to this point.I hesitated, pressing my back to the big, rocky boulder that was behind me. I ducked my head and closed my eyes in fear when I heard an explosion rock the entire city. That was big!I didn't know how to feel, and running back the way I came from crossed my mind.I squashed the thought almost immediately. I was here already, no way I was going to run.Every pit stop made by the bus made me contemplate jumping down but I kept on pushing until I was here…Another explosion follows closely behind the first one, but this time even the boulder behind me shakes from the force. It's even closer than before. I raised my head to peep over the boulder, noticing that there were a couple of men
Freya's POVI was sitting down in a dive bar slash restaurant at noon minding my business when the bell over the door chimed to announce people walking into the store.I turned to look at who had arrived just like everyone else in the place and saw two ladies chatting animatedly with hand gestures and the works. The relief was instantaneous, and my shoulders relaxed a bit. Even though I've been in a beautiful town called Cubanos just a couple miles south of Florida for two weeks, I've been anxious and tense whenever I've seen or spoken to anyone else. The first week was the worst and I'm sure I had people looking at me to find out what was wrong or being hesitant to walk up to me.I had just had this crazy feeling that either Ethan or Shadow was going to find me. It was so bad that I didn't step foot out of my room for the first three days until I was driven out by hunger.Quite pathetic.Even coming out here was factored in by a guy. I'd gone to the only supermarket this town boasted
