Chapter Three

Katherine's POV

"Awwwn, aren't you a cute little guy?" I said as I placed my nipple in his mouth. I could feel Ethan's hot gaze over me and it made me hotter. Ethan sat opposite me.

Ethan happens to be my second chance mate. He accepted me and my baby right away. I told Caleb but he didn't turn his back towards us. He has been the best mate since we met. He had paid for our hospital bills.

"Honey I was thinking." I paused and looked at him. When he saw that he had gained my attention, he continued from where he stopped.

" Wouldn't it be better if we all moved to my pack?" He waited for it to sink before he continued again.

"I mean, I can take care of us better with my pack. If you don't want to go, I don't have any problem. It's just a suggestion. You have the final say here. If you think that staying here would be better, then it's fine. I'm fine with wherever you choose as long as I am there with you."

A smile appeared on my face as I listened to him. I stretched my hands and placed them on his cheeks.

"I think you've been away for too long from your people. They need you right now and I wouldn't want to stand as a roadblock between you and your duty to your pack." He placed his hand on mine and brought my hand closed to his lips and kissed it.

"I don't care, I just want to be with you."

"You are and will always be an Alpha, Ethan. You can't turn your back on your people. So I have decided that I will follow you to your pack. It's not like I have anything here holding me down." I barely finished my sentence when he appeared at my side and pulled me into a side hug. I smiled at his undisputed care for my son.

"Thank you very much. You are the best." He placed a kiss on my forehead and that of my son.

"But I do have a condition."

"Of course, anything you want, I'll do it for you as long as it does not involve leaving me alone."

"Well, when we get to your pack, I want to work. I don't want to depend wholly on you. I want to have my source of income." If there's anything that my failed relationship has taught me, it's that I shouldn't depend fully on anyone and I wasn't going to make the same mistake with Ethan. 

Ethan may be a sweetheart but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have a dark side. I want to be an independent lady and have something that I can fully boast of as mine.

"Yeah, I get your point and of course, that's okay with me. Though I would have preferred you to stay at home looking pretty for me I'm not going to stand in your way, baby I'm going to support you every single step you take. I'm going to be there for you because I love you and I want you to stay happy." My eyes watered as I listened to him. Why didn't I meet him sooner?

He kissed my tears away and placed a kiss on my lips.

"Don't you think that it's time for Elliott to take a nap properly?" 

I looked down at my baby sleeping peacefully in my arms. I removed my breast from his mouth and tucked it back inside my cloth.

"Of course." Ethan picked him from my arms while I stood up and we moved to place him in his bed.

I was busy cursing the moon goddess for taking a good man away from me and I didn't know that she was sending the best man to me.

Sometimes, bad things happen to us so better things can happen.

Alpha Caleb's POV

"What is the situation of the pack?" I asked my Beta immediately after he stepped into my office. I hoped that this time around, it would be good news. I am so tired of hearing bad news.

"The Nightingale pack is not backing out of their threats."

"Then do something! We can't afford another threat. Our defense is not strong enough to handle another war."

"The only thing we can do is to give them what they want, Alpha. They refused any other settlement."

"What do you mean? You want us to hand over a hundred pack members to him as slaves?"

"It's painful to think of but there is no other way." He argued. He was right but we can't give up our pack members.

"I can't become a monster by handing over my pack members to the Alpha of the Nightingale pack just to save my head. I am not that evil." He opened his mouth to say something but then the door was suddenly pushed open and I was irritated by the intruder.

"What the hell! Don't you know how to knock?"

"I am so sorry Alpha but this is too urgent." The Delta said his body was shivering slightly.

"I hope it's not bad news."

"I'm afraid it is, Alpha." What could be worse than facing threats from another pack and not being able to handle it? I urged him to continue and he swallowed his saliva before he continued.

"It's the rogue Alpha, he is giving you ten days to step down or he will go to war with our pack."

"Is that what you call a threat?" I laughed out loud. I stopped when I noticed that neither of them thought that it was a joke. I urged him to continue.

"He is joining forces with the Nightingale pack and the red moon pack."

"I thought we already settled our scores with the red moon pack?"

"I thought so too but it seemed that Alpha Carlos changed his mind after the rogue Alpha had offered him something in return." The Beta said and I sank into my chair. I was drowning in problems.

Since they found out that I could no longer access my wolf, they all started attacking.

"What should we do, Alpha? Should we give into the demands of the Nightingale pack and try to reason with Alpha Carlos?"

"Perhaps we should call Alpha Kaden for help, he said he would repay us the favor. Maybe it's time he did so."

"The two of you get out of here I need to think." I thundered at both of them and they hurriedly left.

I closed my eyes and tried to focus. I called my wolf but yet no response. It was as though it were never there. My mind drifted off to what the witch I had consulted told me.

"Your wolf was very much attached to your mate and never rejected her. Your being with another lady has pushed him away. He won't mate with another lady because he hadn't rejected his mate. He is loyal to her."

My mind went crazy at the revelation. She wasn't here but she was still controlling things here. If only I had listened to my wolf when he said that it was a bad idea to reject her but no I was so obsessed with wanting a powerful female by my side that I forgot the rare qualities that she possessed. The door pushed open again and I opened my eyes to meet my worst mistake.

"What are you doing here?" I groaned.

"Aren't you pleased to see me?" She asked, feigning sadness but I rolled my eyes at her. I was now immune to her tactics.

"Go straight to the point Freya, I have no time to waste. I am a busy Alpha."

"You haven't slept in the room for two months now, is there a problem?"

"What? Are you just noticing now or have your credit card dried up?"

"Stop acting as though I married you for your money." She said in a pitiful voice and I scoffed. Now that I think of it, she never had any effect on me, I was just forcing it all this while.

"Then go straight to the point or you fuck out!"

"When is the Luna ceremony held?" She asked and I closed my eyes. I was facing a lot of threats and she was hell-bent on being the Luna. Katherine was considerate.

"Freya I have a lot on my mind and that is the least of my problems right now."

"Well, I don't care. You promised to make me Luna after you had thrown your bitchy mate away and it's almost a year."

"You don't call her a bitch because she is not one." I thundered.

"So why did you reject her?" 

"Is it because she couldn't give you a pup? Now that I think about it, you might be the problem because I have tried for six whole months and I couldn't get pregnant."

"Freya I will appreciate it if you leave right now or I will do something that you wouldn't live to tell the story."

"I will. Face the harsh reality. I am not like Katherine, you could boss me around. I am different from her!" She said and stomped out of my office.

I regretted giving in to her seductions. Katherine was the best mate and I failed to realize it. My mind drifted off to what my father had told me. If only…
