“Please…” I begged, feeling the weight of hopelessness settle in my chest as I realized there was nothing more that could be done. “I’m so sorry, I can’t...” Sarah whispered, her eyes filled with empathy and sadness. “But maybe you can...” she said, her voice trailing off as she hesitated to offer false hope.

Sarah’s words lingered in the air, leaving me with a sliver of uncertainty and a glimmer of possibility.

Sarah shook her head; her expression hurt as she turned away. “I can’t allow you that, Luna. It’s too risky.” I turned her face toward me and saw tears glistening in her eyes. “Saving my dad is now more important than anything else,” I pleaded, desperation creeping into my voice. “Look at him, Sarah,” I begged, making her turn to face my father, lying on the cold, damp floor with his head resting on my lap, eyes closed, clothes torn as thin as a twig, and his breathing shallow and labored. “H
