CHAPTER TWENTY — TIDES AND TESTIMONIES The last day of their seaside escape greeted them with a sky washed clean after night rain, pale blue and brushed with thin streaks of silvered clouds. The ocean was lively today—higher tides, bolder waves, a song a little wilder than the lullabies it sang the nights before. Yara stepped onto the porch first, tugging her fleece tighter against her arms. “The sea is in a mood,” she said.

RYDER. My arms trembled as I held myself above her, muscles burning. Each breath dragged through my chest as if I'd been running for miles. Seeing the hungry boys, I knew we were going to be here for a while. *** After an hour, we were at the beach. It was past three in the afternoon.

Surely? The waves, started to become fiercer, which meant I was definitely approaching the shore. I just needed to get through this next bit alive, and I would make it. From the direction of the current it felt like the tide was likely going in. This was going to be to my advantage. When our parents had taken us on holiday, they’d taught us how the tides work. Laurel's cell phone rang while she was arranging their clothes in the closet in a beautiful room on the second floor of this house. This room has a balcony with a bridge overlooking the beach. If we stand at the end of the balcony, we will be able to see a vast view without borders of the sky and the blue sea combined separated by a stunning horizon line. While below, the waves look beautiful rolling, as if calling to invite swimming.

Selene and Fenric both turned their eyes toward it. Now that they knew there was a traitor in the estate who had freed Zirion and was not necessarily under Vanessa's command, they had to be extra careful. So, Selene stopped the maid who was serving them the food and said, "Get the physician here to examine it." When the physician arrived, she had him test the dishes.
