sleep smarter

One of my roommates at the dorm was a competitive person. Whenever I studied, she would be anxious. If I opened a package, she would ask me what I was buying. She would also pressure me to tell her my whereabouts. There was even a time when I turned in my bed, she suddenly opened my divider curtain and asked me if I was secretly studying. I was literally going to go insane, but our nonchalant counsellor told me that I was overreacting. After that, I failed to secure a postgraduate position, but she managed to study overseas. When she returned, she became my supervisor. She told everyone she met that I was a very competitive person, and she kept assigning a lot of tasks for me to do. In the end, I died from overworking. When I opened my eyes again, I saw her get into my bed. I recorded the sound of pages flipping and turned on the night light. I played the recording for the entire night. If she wanted to be anxious and lose her sleep, so be it!

**Excerpt** “Can't sleep?” I ask. She shrugs and turns back to the TV, while I study her side profile. It's as if I'm seeing her in a new light. Her long red hair is pulled into a high bun, showing off her slim neck and I feel the sudden urge to lick it. I move forward slowly, my eyes trained on the pulse beating below her ear. I'm so focused on her neck that I don't even see her hand coming until it connects with my face, sending my head snapping to the side. “What the hell is wrong with you?” She snaps. My ears ring as I rear back, smirking mildly. “Fuck, that was wild I knew you had a naughty side to you, Audrey Watson.” *** Living with her mortal savior proved to be a challenge for Audrey Watson, but since the day she was born, life had always thrown her challenges so what was one more? Little did she know that this particular challenge came with a twist. She didn't expect to fall in love with him and when she finally realized, he was getting ready for his wedding. She had lost him forever or so she thought, but again, life comes with a twist and she realizes that her whole life had been a lie. The weight of everything comes crumbling on her and she's tempted to just disappear. And she did, but not exactly the way she planned. She also found out that she was going to be killed my her half-sister and her tormentor. Will fate finally grant her a happy ending or would she need to fight for her own happiness?
