Di suatu bukit yang jauh dari perkotaan berdiri sebuah desa yang elok nan asri, di lereng bukit tersebut berdiri sebuah padepokan seni bela diri kuno, padepokan tersebut bernama padepokan Raja Malam. Penduduk desa dan para jawara padepokan Raja Malam hidup berdampingan dengan damai, mereka saling tolong menolong satu sama lain. Pada suatu ketika desa dan padepokan tersebut mengalami kerusakan yang begitu parah karena dilanda peperangan yang amat mengerikan. Dari penghuni bukit tersebut hanya 3 orang yang selamat, 2 orang dari padepokan Raja Malam dan 1 anak laki-laki remaja.

Suatu ketika kerajaan Therazium, berhasil dikalahkan dan di invasi oleh para bangsa lain. Khaigor sang ksatria dan rekan-rekannya, berhasil menyelamatkan diri. Lalu bertemu dengan sekelompok yang bernama Gridor, Berthous, Megrito dan Nerdho, kelompok yang membasmi monster, kaum lain, prajurit rekrutan, bahkan mereka bisa dibayar. Khaigor bergabung menjadi Gridor sambil bekerja sebagai tukang besi dan serabutan, kemudian bertemu dengan tiga anak muda yang terdiri dari seorang perempuan yang lebih tua bernama Avery dari dua anak laki-laki tersebut bernama Verdis dan Neos, Khaigor berpetualang bersama mereka, kemudian dia mencari kembali ketiga sahabatnya yang masih penasaran akan keberadaannya apakah mereka masih hidup atau pun telah tiada. Tiga anak tersebut tumbuh menjadi pejuang tangguh di iringi dengan pembinaan dari Khaigor, Avery menjadi seorang prajurit dan dua temannya yaitu Verdis dan Neos menjadi Gridor. Sudut pandang antara pihak Gridor, Berthous, Megrito, serta Nerdho, kerajaan dan masyarakat memiliki perbedaan yang sebagiannya berselisih satu sama lain, yang tak dapat diterima sepenuhnya antar pihak. Meskipun begitu, mereka tetap menjaga persatuan mereka sebagaimana manusia tapi berbeda jika telah berperang dalam antar suku dan bangsa.
