The story begins with Lynn (Avalynn Carlisle) remembering the fateful events that led to her eventual disenfranchisement and spiraled her down into poverty, with three children on the way. As it turns out, she had always been madly in love with Silas, the son of his father's biggest competitor, but she had never manifested that love to its fullest extent.
One day, she found out she had secured a spot at Julliard, and her sister, who always held a grudge against her, insisted that they go out and get some drinks to celebrate the news, only to drug her later and play a nasty trick on her with Silas, her childhood crush. When she woke up with Silas on the other side of the bed, she knew she was done for. The scandal didn't go unnoticed. Silas immediately shunned her and her father kicked her out of her home with only a mere suitcase.
What's more, she got pregnant with triplets! Thankfully, she managed to survive (albeit barely) working overtime as a waitress to bring food to the table and feed her two sons and her daughter, Alexis. Ten years later, Silas would be desperately looking for her, not knowing of the existence of his offspring. After realizing what she had to endure, he would attempt to earn her trust and get back at the people who wished to hurt her.
Avalynn comes from a wealthy family but is brave enough to withstand living in dire conditions, even though she is not prepared for her new lifestyle. She also has innate musical skills and has always been an excellent student. That said, she's not far behind when it comes to beauty, though her sister, Marilynn, is the biggest looker in the family. Furthermore, she's extremely shy and introverted.
She's the mother of two sons and one daughter, Alexis, who stands out due to her blindness but, above all else, her musical talents and extraordinary personality.
Silas is an astonishingly handsome businessman and highly self-aware, so he pays no mind to all the chicks who try to flirt with him. As expected, he's also prone to self-importance, though not totally out of touch or apathetic. In like manner, he has a high sense of responsibility and shows commitment to his parenting duties, for better or worse.
Marilynn is the sweetheart of the Carlisle family and the polar opposite of Avalynn. While Avalynn is modest and reserved, Marilynn has the presence of a pageant queen with an exuberant personality, though her evil intentions stick out like a sore thumb. She's hesitant to show remorse for her cruel actions, even as she's able to witness all the detrimental consequences they usher.
In this chapter, Silas continues in his search for clues regarding the triplets and their possible parentage. He was almost certain they were his children but couldn't yet identify the mother. His only sexual encounter was with Avalynn but, at first, he couldn't identify her because she hid her face from view after waking up that dreadful day.
However, Silas, through his assistant, Thomas, was able to secure an interview with the maid who worked at the Hotel Conrad and, even when she appealed to a fuzzy memory, she was able to recognize the woman in the photo Silas showed her. That's when he discovered it was Avalynn all along!
The triplets were on an excursion while waiting anxiously to meet their father and get some questions answered. Meanwhile, Avalynn's father had hired a reporter to take pictures of her and the triplets, something that the kids caught quickly enough.
Meanwhile, Silas arrived at the penguin enclosure where he was summoned to pay the "ramson money." This was in light of an email sent presumably by someone from the company who asked for $500K in order to keep Silas' secret "safe." Soon after, he heard the summoner's voice. It was Alexis, Avalynn's daughter, who immediately ran towards Silas.
Next thing, Silas asked her how long she knew he was her biological father, to which she replied that she had known since she was five years old. She was also aware that her mom's name was not Lynn Carter but that she was related to the Carlisle family, even though they didn't think too fondly of them.
Then, Silas tried to explain to her that he didn't know the woman who appeared on his bed was Ava, and that he would never do anything to hurt them. After a lengthy conversation, she disappeared.
"The Billionaire Triplets Take New York" explores the notion of starting anew against one's will and the ability to adapt to new and harsh realities after having experienced the lap of luxury. In this instance, Avalynn, initially a rich woman, is exposed to the vicissitudes of life and a sudden status shift, though she's able, along with her triplets, to overcome all the hardships that befell her.
In addition to the above, themes such as family unity, treason, and single motherhood are also brought into the formula, taking center stage for a great part of the book.
E.T. Watson is a very productive writer with lots of works to brag about, including "The Billionaire's Play," "The Billionaire CEO's Runaway Wife," and the novel being reviewed here, "The Billionaire Triplets Take New York." From what we may attest, she is very much into Billionaires/CEO novels and shows mastery in the genre, though she claims to be a sci-fi/fantasy/anime fan.
Watson seemingly writes like a native English speaker, making the reading experience a lot smoother. Likewise, she loves to insert flashbacks and add flavorful descriptions when given the opportunity, painting a mental canvas of the scenes she's relating.
In this instance, Watson takes charge of the narration as a third-party observer who's granted access into the characters' innermost feelings and thoughts. In that sense, this narrator poses as the know-all God-like kind.
"The Billionaire Triplets Take New York" gives us an important insight into the ups and downs of life through the conveyance of extremes, reminding us that we can always fall no matter how high we are and that we can always get back up no matter how low we fell. Moreover, the story is easy to follow thanks to its superb writing and editing work, as well as its enticing cast of characters.
