Plot

The plot in "My Secret Husband" begins with a drunk Claire escaping her household and unexpectedly meeting her secret admirer, Charlie. Charlie offers to take her home, but Claire hugs him and passes out. In the next scene, she apparently had sex with him but doesn't recall anything. In desperation, she hands him a $100k card in exchange for his secrecy while simultaneously, someone sends her a voice message scolding her for disappearing on the day of her wedding with Cormac, a man she utterly dreads.

It then occurs to her that Charlie could appear as her husband and, in exchange, she'd obtain from Lady Wilson (her grandma) a $1.3 million loan to help pay for his foster mom's surgery. Unfortunately, Lady Wilson refuses to cooperate and disowns her, yet her cousin Harold offers them the loan under "one condition": Charlie must face embarrassment!

An Unexpected Lender

Just as Charlie is about to withstand more humiliation from Harold, he receives a text message from an unknown source claiming that someone else paid the entire sum for Ms. Lewis' surgery. It turns out the funds came from his grandfather through his assistant, Doris Young.

That came as an unexpected (and disagreeable) surprise to Charlie, who for the longest time bore ill feelings towards his granddad, placing the blame on him for his parents' death. Ms. Young then informs him that his granddad has been looking for him and wants him to return home. Upon refusing the invitation, she gives him a card which is meant to aid in covering the costs of Ms. Lewis' treatment. What Charlie never envisioned was that he would be holding a card with a $10B balance! Charlie apparently wasn't such an underling after all!

Love Grows (But Money Has Nothing to Do With It!)

Charlie would keep his newfound fortune a secret while trying to win Claire's heart, knowing that her family would keep objecting to their (initially faux) relationship. In the meantime, Claire is still being pressured to marry Cormac to fulfill Grandma Wilson's wishes.

"My Secret Husband" is a fine production with compelling scenes designed to keep the spectator hooked from beginning to end, thanks to their savory mixture of comedy, drama, and romance.

The acting is fantastic and not exceedingly over-the-top, which is saying much when considering this is likened to a play, so some theatricality is warranted. In particular, we feel that the actor who portrayed Harold Wilson (Claire's cousin) was the ultimate highlight here, with a performance that could easily be classed as Triple-A-Movie material.

On another note, there are also tons of unexpectedly funny moments (such as when Charlie puts on a ridiculously-looking sweater after changing his attire in episode 5), and the short scenes contain just enough information to lead spectators through the plot without giving off too much, so they are encouraged to fill in some of the blanks.

In this regard, one minor criticism we would have is that some of the gaps between episodes are too wide, and viewers could easily get lost during the abrupt transitions. This doesn't happen often enough to ruin immersion, however, and with short episodes spanning roughly one minute, these minor setbacks are virtually expected.

All in all, if you long for the perfect piece of media to crack up at and that simultaneously offers some genuine heart-tendering bits, "My Secret Husband" is an experience you wouldn't want to skip!
