Chap.11 Burning Betrayal

Cindy's POV:My wolf, told me to ignore it, since she was a human but I was definitely not satisfied."Xavier, don't you even think of doing what I'm thinking." I cried, tears welled up in my eyes. "I need to go find out and be sure. Come on, , let's go.""But we don't have to," it warned inside me, hesitant to go with me."Come-on, what's your problem?" I begged. "I know Xavier, he can't just bring in a human here, just for some stupid reasons, he's definitely up to something and I need to find out." I pleaded, my eyes heavy with tears."Alright, let's go if you insist, but I still warn you, this is something we mustn't go after. She's a human and he can't choose her as a mate, but since you insist, let's go." She said, although hesitant, but finally agreed to come.We navigated through the pack's ground, heading to Xavier's house. I heard my footsteps beneath me, coupled with my puzzled mind. My senses were on high alert and I could hear even a pin, drop. My heart ached with betraya

Chap. 12. A Mother's Concern

Xavier's POVI felt something was not right. The moment my mom set her eyes on Sophia, I saw the sparkle in her eyes. She was completely startled and stunned, shaken deep down to her marrow and shivers ran down her spine. She sat with me in the parlor and we were both busy with our phones. I just stared at her as I pondered on these thoughts. "Xavier? Is anything the matter?" She asked, when she noticed my continuous stares."No, nothing mom. It's all good." I replied, looking away. I did not want to tell her what was going through my mind. She is a very difficult person to deal with, coupled with the fact that I struggled a lot to get her to like and Sophia, although she still has doubts too, but at least, she finally agreed with me."Then why the stares?" She asked further. She knew I was lying. "I know that look boy." She teased."Mom come on, I said it's nothing." I groaned. "I'm just adoring your beautiful face. It's been a while." I replied, feigning a smile.A smile faltered

Chap.13 Jealousy Unleashed

Cindy's POV I stormed away from the hideout, feet crunching onto the path of the forest as my anger was welling up and brimming over as my body shook all over; my hands, my rising and falling chest, with my head replaying and over how Xavier could pull such a thing: how dare he bring a human- her into our pack? My fists were clenched at my sides, and wordlessly, I swore this had to be over with now. Sophia-the human girl-didn't belong here.I couldn't let that slip by, but what Xavier was doing was just a slap in my face-more than that, it was against the bond of our families, the marriage vow between our two children, such a tradition and legacy stitched onto concrete and alliances by our parents, which Xavier was trampling like they meant nothing.Yet something must be done, but what was it? Thus I churned and paced about the woods aimless, as if there had been no sense; and neither did the sunbeams, which filtered through the leaves, soothe my churning and angry mind. Kill her-a v

Chap. 14 The Unseen Path

LADY CECILIA'S P.O.V.The moment the question about Xavier and Sophia rolled off from Cindy's mouth and hit my ears, I knew it would come with fire in her eyes, an edge in her voice-all hinted toward one thing: an attempt at intimidating a human girl named Sophia. It came as less than a shock to me since Cindy had been no better than a wolf rejoicing in dominance, treading over anything or whomever dares stand in her way.And that little bit of doubt refused to budge. Scaring a human was quite all right, but with Cindy along, it invariably would make everything go from bad to worse without her trying. Careful steps ahead I'd have to tread lest her impulsive nature made things far worse than good."What are you going to do?" I crossed my arms, regarding her with a cool, dispassionate gaze.Nothing extreme," Cindy said, her voice all but mocking. "Just a little fright to put the fear in her where she is supposed to be."It did little for my apprehension, so I tucked it away and said, "C

Chap. 15 Pack Life

Sofia's P.O.V.There seemed to be a surge of electricity in the air as Xavier and I emerged from his house. I still hadn't been able to process any of this-werewolves, friction between me and Cindy, now I'm on their ground and truly among them, all easy like it had been for some time now.Xavier strode ahead, his tall confident frame cutting through the path ahead. Still coming to terms with the new status of my reality, his excitement proved infectious."Come on," he said, grinning back at me over his shoulder. "There's so much I want to show you."I followed, curiosity outweighing nerves. The grounds were sprawling and beautiful-a marriage of nature and structure in perfect harmony. Cottages nestled amongst great trees, their moss-covered roofs blending seamlessly into surroundings. Children ran barefoot through open fields, their laughter carrying across the air as wolves of every size lay in the sun or moved with purpose, fur shimmering in the light."This," Xavier said, opening h

Chap. 16 Call from the Oracle

Xavier's POVAfternoon sun pounded down on the pack grounds as I continued to give Sophia the tour. She held her own pretty damn well for a human with this many staring, whispering asses. Curiosity outweighed unease, and I once again was reminded how tough a cookie she was.No sooner had I finish telling the tale of the training yard than a Virgin from the Moon Goddess was standing before us in her white, chaste, and proud assemblage, head bowed in greeting."Alpha Xavier," she said in a soft yet somehow imperative voice. "The Oracle of the Moon requests your presence, immediately."I raised an eyebrow at the suddenness. "The Oracle?" I repeated."Oui, Alpha," she said. "She has foreseen something big, and insists you and your guest join me at the temple."Sophia raised an eyebrow at me, puzzled."I planned on visiting her later today," I told her, crossing my arms over my chest. "Can't this wait?" He asked. The Virgin shook her head. "The Oracle says it can't. It is urgent.I blew ou

Chap. 17 On the way to the Oracle

Sophia's POVMy heart was in my throat as the Moon Goddess Virgin came toward us. The stories I'd heard about werewolves-their ferocity, their territorial instincts-came flooding back. For a moment, it was terrifying to think she might be one of them come to start trouble, and even Xavier's presence couldn't fully calm me.And then she spoke, her voice low-pitched, almost musical, to tell us that the Oracle of the Moon summoned us. A tide of relief ran through me, to be quickly pushed aside by the flicker of curiosity: the Oracle of the Moon? What could she want with me?I had never seen her before, and I didn't know her position within the pack. But while Virgin was talking to me, changes came over this girl's attitude respectful, very slight, but not for Xavier's benefit, rather aimed at me. I didn't get what was going on, and the fact that I didn't made me all the more curious. And when finally she asked me if I would come, in less than a second I said yes.---As I walked to the t

Chap. 18 The Oracle Revelation

Sophia's POVRight then and there, it had overcome me with feelings of awe mixed with trembling since we had approached the Oracle Temple of the Moon. Indeed, another variety of temple wherewith I had been acquainted: the whole structure infinitely more ancient-looking, with high-raised pillars and vines of thickness binding it round, as it were-most of this wood attempting to embrace and press to its own bosom, as something living, that house of prayer. The foggy fog swirled in thick movements down beneath in some mystic way, catching it in words that hardly tell."Wow," I breathed, my neck craning as I took it all in.Standing beside me, Xavier wore an impassive face. "It's... something, isn't it?"I nodded, too mesmerized to reply.Xena-the Virgin of the Moon Goddess who'd escorted us in-faced back and gestured to us, her voice formal with suppressed authority. "You must wait here," she told us. "The Oracle must be prepared for you."I threw a nervous glance at Xavier; he shrugged.

Chap.19 Cindy's Panic

Cindy's POVI stormed across the large hall of Lady Cecilia's estate, my mind whipping out of control. Anger had turned into another thing-panic. Of all things to want, whatever for, what would the Moon's Oracle want with a human! The impertinence of the thing burned my blood, yet beneath the fire of rage was gnawing fear."My Lady Cecilia," I said, my voice clear as cut by a knife. "Are you certain of this? The Oracle of the Moon summoned Sophia? She sat easily on a chaise, her hands folded in her lap. So composed, maddeningly so, sipping tea as if this were not the start of a disaster. "It would appear so," she said with even tone. "Several members of the clan have corroborated such a claim.I slammed my hand against the wall, its echo reverberating around the room. "Why? Why her? What could the Oracle conceivably want with a wretched human girl?"Lady Cecilia cooled towards me. "Compose yourself, Cindy. Panic will not alter the already done.""So easy that is for you to say!" Chap. 20 Barred at the Gate

Cindy's POVThe muscles of my jaw knotted in an effort at retaining the chafing of my anger within me. For, it was quite one thing hearing the rumors about the summoning of Sophia, quite another thing altogether - seeing with one's very eyes the doors of the Moon's Temple slammed shut right before one's very eyes! The temerity!"This is outrageous," I hissed, at which my fists were bunched. "They can't do this to us!"Everybody was calm except me, I thought, as from Lady Cecilia keen eyes an annoyance gave away. "Calm yourself," she said soft while an edge cut through, "Cindy, we'll find a way in.Before us stood the Moon Goddess Virgins: a stony wall of faces unyielding as the resolution behind the stone-hard visages, faces pale as moonlight in their pale blue robes that shone bright as.well, moonlight. This only added to the fire now brewing inside my stomach."You will step aside," Lady Cecilia said to them in a voice stern yet chivalrous. "I am Lady Cecilia, Luna of this pack, and
