Chapter 31Sebastian ~•~As I drove away, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. Zara was like a ticking time bomb, and I had no idea how I was going to handle her. I could only hope that she doesn’t end up doing anything reckless. I had to be careful because Zara was unpredictable, and I couldn’t risk her exposing me to Ivy. After a short ride, I arrived at my house. As I walked into the house, I saw that my mother was already seated at the dining table, having a glass of juice as she waited for me. “Hey, Ma.” I kissed her on the forehead before settling down on the empty chair beside her. “Sebastian, you bought a $99,000 necklace for Ivy?” My mother went straight to the point as she asked. “Why did you spend so much money on a necklace?” She added, letting out a disappointed sigh. My mother caught me off guard. I had no idea she even knew about the necklace. I wasn’t even expecting her to come down to my house just to scold me about a necklace. I opened my mouth to spe

Chapter 32Ivy Chase ~•~“You’re leaving already?” My mother asked as I informed her that I was leaving. I responded with a simple nod. “Yes, I have something to take care of.” My mother exhaled heavily. “I hope you think about what your father and I said to you today. I don’t want you to get into someone that you’ll end up regretting.” I managed a smile. “Yes, ma’am. I’ll think about it.” With that, I made my way out of the house and headed to my car. As I drove out of my parents house, I couldn’t help but wonder what Sebastian’s mother wanted to talk to me about. I hadn’t seen her in a while. And I was guessing that she wanted to talk to me about the wedding. I increased my speed and a few minutes later, I arrived at Sebastian’s house. “Please, just be patient with her.” Sebastian whisphered in my ear as opened the door for me. A confused expression was registered on my face. I didn’t even get a chance to ask any questions before he led me to the dining room and announced

Chapter 33Ivy Chase ~•~As I talked about my $500,000, everywhere went silent. All of a sudden, the mother didn’t have anything to say anymore. She was just staring at Sebastian with a disappointed look on her face. “Talking about the $500,000 at this point is so insensitive.” His mother finally spoke after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence. “What?” I asked with an unbelievable scoff. “But it isn't insensitive for you to call me here and embarrass me because of the money I am spending on my wedding preparations?” His mother rolled her eyes. “I’m just trying to reason with you here.” She replied, her voice rising. “If you can just listen and return the necklace, everyone will be okay.” It was even surprising to me that I had been standing there for minutes, listening to her as she insulted me. And the fact that Sebastian had been quiet all this while was baffling. “Like I already said before, I’m not going to return the necklace.” I kept my tone as respectful as possible.

Chapter 34Sebastian ~•~As I watched my mother and Ivy go back and forth with each other, I wanted to join the conversation but I didn’t want to say the wrong things. I didn’t want to say something that would upset my mother or even Ivy. I felt so helpless and lost. I shouldn’t have asked Ivy to come over to the house. I should’ve found another way to convince my mother to let go of it. I knew she was genuinely concerned about my finances but having her and Ivy in the same room was a terrible idea. I should’ve just assured her that I was going to do better. I was so relieved when I finally walked my mother out of the house. As we walked over to her car, I tried my best to calm her down because she was so angry. “Are you sure that’s the lady you want to spend the rest of your life with?” My mother asked, staring at me with a concerned look. I sighed. “It’s not like that, you shouldn’t have asked her to return the necklace,” I said, running my hands through my hair. My mother gl

Chapter 35Sebastian ~•~Zara had been blowing up my phone with numerous phone calls and texts. I chose to ignore them because I was having a date with Ivy later in the day. I didn’t want to respond to Zara because she would probably bug me about hanging out. But I couldn’t meet up with her anymore. That was a big risk. I thought ignoring Zara would make her give up, but she kept on calling my phone. What I had gotten myself into? At some point, I had to turn off my phone so she wouldn’t be able to contact me. By the time I was done getting ready for the date, Ivy was already in my bedroom. I was meant to pick her up from her house, so I was shocked to see her. “What are you doing here?” I asked as I made my way to the closet. “I’ve been calling your phone but I couldn’t reach you,” Ivy said. “I had to come here to see if everything was fine.” A soft chuckle escaped my lips. “I’m sorry, my phone died.” I lied, trying to avoid eye contact with her. I couldn’t tell her that I tur

Chapter 36Ivy Chase ~•~One could say I woke up on the wrong side of the bed in the morning because as soon as my eyes fluttered open, my mind went straight to Zara and Sebastian. It was beginning to look like I had given them a free pass, especially Sebastian. The image of their betrayal was plastered on the front of my head. I felt an excruciating pain in my chest as I thought about everything that morning. I thought I could live with it. I thought I could ignore the pain. But the betrayal was too much. It was even more painful because I had lost my best friend. I found it amusing that she didn’t even try to apologize or fix things. She didn’t care if we were friends anymore. She didn’t feel remorseful about her actions. Most times, I always wondered where I had gone wrong. I could never understand why she did what she did. Was she already tired of our friendship? Did she secretly hate me? Did she try to set me up just to punish me for something? I was left with all these

Chapter 37Ivy Chase ~•~I quickly averted my gaze and was about to continue walking like I didn’t just see him. But before I could even take a step, Parker’s voice cut through the air. “Ivy Chase.” I paused and slowly turned around to look at him. “Parker,” I responded, my voice cracking slightly. I already had a shitty day and didn’t expect to see Parker at the restaurant. Things were awkward between us because of the last conversation we had. Parker and I hadn’t spoken to each other since our last argument during the engagement party. He gestured for me to move over to his table. “What are you doing here?” He asked as I stood in front of him. I rolled my eyes. “I came here to change my car tires.” The sarcasm was evident in my tone. A soft chuckle escaped Parker’s lips. “I’m sorry, you obviously came here to eat.” He lifted his hands in mock surrender. From the way Parker spoke to me, it was as though he wasn’t upset about the situation anymore. Maybe he had already forgot

Chapter 38Ivy Chase ~•~Sebastian’s expression turned uneasy. He hesitated for a while then he reached out to my hands. “We are about to get married, we shouldn’t be arguing so much.” I let out a loud scoff when I realized what he was trying to do. He wanted to distract me and change the topic. He didn’t want to have a conversation about who was blowing up his phone. I laughed even if nothing was funny. “I’m going to ask you one more time, Sebastian. Who was blowing up your phone?”Sebastian sighed. “I already told you, it’s someone who wants to work with me.” He looked me straight in the eyes and lied to my face. I wasn’t buying it.“Give me your phone, I want to see.” I stretched my hands as I requested his phone. Sebastian smacked his lips. “You’re ridiculous.” He stood up from the table and walked away from me. Of course, he didn’t want me to see who the caller was. It just confirmed the fact that it wasn’t someone who wanted to work with him. It was probably a girl who he

Chapter 39Ivy Chase ~•~“Did you sleep with him?” Sebastian asked as I walked to the front door. I stopped in my tracks, taken aback by his question. “What? Who?” Sebastian scoffed. “Don’t act like you have no idea what I’m talking about.” He replied, his eyes darkening. “Are you sleeping with Parker?” “I don’t even know what you’re doing at my house, please leave.” I gently shoved him to the side because he was blocking my path, and then I unlocked the door and walked inside the house. But before I could close the door, he held it and walked inside the house. “You didn’t answer my question, Ivy.” He continued. “Did you sleep with Parker?” He repeated his question. I honestly didn’t have an answer to his question because I had no idea if I even slept with Parker or not. Yes, I woke up naked in a hotel room with him, but we never got the chance to talk about what happened. I felt too embarrassed to ask him about it even if it had crossed my mind several times. But I wasn’t sur

Chapter 40Sebastian ~•~I was under so much tension that I didn’t even think properly before doing things. I felt so embarrassed as Ivy caught my lie. But I still tried to sound convincing as I used another excuse. I could see in Ivy’s eyes that she wanted to believe me but she couldn’t. Seeing her cry made my heart break. I cared about Ivy a lot but I had to prioritize myself. When Ivy was done crying, I led her to her bedroom. I knew she wouldn’t want me to spend the night at her house, so I didn’t ask. Ivy was silent as we made our way to her room. After she settled on her bed, I turned around to leave. But I stopped in my tracks when my mind wandered back to Zara. She had given me an ultimatum - spend the day with her or buy her the expensive necklace I had gotten for Ivy. I didn’t want to risk getting caught with her, so I settled for buying the necklace. It was a bad financial decision but things would be bad if I didn’t agree to Zara’s demands. “I never got to see th
