Chapter 30

"Good afternoon, Cameron." "Hi." "Hi."The chorus of greetings was stiff and I felt unwelcome here. Like I'd somehow walked onto forbidden territory. Kai just nodded his head in a cool acknowledgment of my presence.. "Oh hi, Cammy!" Vera exclaimed and came over to hug me. "I'm so glad you came! "Yeah, of course. I said that I would." I smiled as warmly as I could, trying and failing to defuse the tension in the room. I wondered why Kai never came to me. He always touched me in some way when we were together. Why was he acting so cold? I didn't even feel comfortable to approach him right now. "But I see you're busy and don't want to interrupt. We'll catch up after training." I smiled and looked over at the men again. Their faces were all reserved. They were hiding something. And I bet it had something to do with the vampire scent that enveloped this place. They would be in here somewhere, but by the looks on their faces, I knew I couldn't ask. "Later." I smiled politely a

Chapter 31

Cammy POV I looked at my friend. I felt incredibly uncomfortable realizing that the alpha wanted a proper fight. Like that first time I'd seen him fighting the man who I now knew was his delta, Thomas. Lindy and I always trained hard, but I did not want to hurt her in a real fight. Lindy was already crouching and circling me. I flicked my eyes over to the alpha's emotionless face. Then to Kai, who was sucking on his teeth. "Come on, Lindy!" Slade called out and clapped his hands in encouragement, earning a glare from Kai. Kai turned blazing eyes towards me, and nodded his encouragement. The intensity of his glare gave me the resolve I needed to fight my closest friend. Lindy screamed as she charged at me, like a warrior in battle. This time I had no desire to laugh at her ridiculousness. As she dove into my body, I wrapped my arms over her back and around her waist, lifting her up over my head and flipping her backwards so that we both fell on our backs. "Ow-" Lindy clutch

Chapter 32

Kai's POV 17 years ago "Here, want some of these?" Vera asked. I looked at the orange bell shaped flowers in my friend's tiny hand. She was so small because she was still 4. I already turned 5. That means that I'm bigger. I smiled at Vera as she started pushing the orange flowers into my bunch. They looked pretty with the other flowers I had and I knew that Mommy would like them. The front door opened and my dad walked out with Vera's dad. Vera ran up to her dad and excitedly showed him the flowers we'd picked for our Mommies. Her dad bent down and scooped her up in his arms, like Mommy sometimes does with me. She told him all about the different colours in my Mommy's Luna garden, and showed him which flowers were her favorite. I looked at my dad. His eyes were narrowed at me and he looked so angry, that I took a step back and looked down at my blue shoes. I guess he didn't like flowers as much as he never liked Vera's new doll that we were playing with before he told us to

Chapter 33

Kai POV Present Day: I clenched my jaw tight and watched Cammy fend off two opponents. Warren and Jackson were two of our best warriors and Cammy was taking a few shots. Fuck! I wanted to fucking rip them to shreds for touching her! "Calm down man." Riley lightly slapped me on the shoulder. "She can handle them." "She hasn't lost a match yet. She doesn't need your help." Slade reasoned. Fucking asshole didn't even have a mate. For his own safety, he better shut the fuck up right now! A growl escaped my chest, but I didn't take my eyes off of her. I clenched my hands into tight balls, crossed my arms and dug then into my ribs as hard as a could. I was pacing up and down the length of the sparring mat and Slade and Riley were trying to keep me calm. My fucking father kicked me out after her first training session with him, after I broke his fucking delta's hand. I wanted to kill anyone that touched her. It was now a week later and the first time since than that I'd been

Chapter 34

Kai's POV I took another drag of my spliff, inhaling the spicy aroma deep into my lungs, willing it to calm my nerves, before releasing the smoke slowly into the chilly early morning air. I'd awoken to a empty bed a little more than an hour ago. I was worried at first. I'd slept in Cammy's bed, wrapped around her tiny body every night since she invaded my life 5 weeks ago. But then I'd heard her soft voice drifting down the hallway. I followed her sweet melody until I found her in the lounge. I watched her through the sliver of the door, -at first just because it was so good to hear her carefree laughter and see her glowing, happy face. She looked so alive and serene as she spoke to the person on the phone that my chest ached to be nearer to her than standing behind a half closed door. Their conversation was familiar and humorous and flowed easily. She obviously knew this person very well. Quickly growing jealous as I felt her affection through our bond. My eyes caught the cloc

Chapter 35

Kai POVAs soon as my foot hit the ground outside I inhaled sharply and shifted swiftly into my wolf. The gratification was instant. My powerful beast consuming my being and enhancing my tremenous muscles. Strength. Focus.Cammy shifted behind me and the bond filtered through my barriers. Fuck! Our connection was much stronger like this. I took off in a burst of speed, pushing myself forwards. Forwards...Forwards.......Up over the Rocky Mountains. ...Higher......and higher still......harder......faster......away.Cammy steadily flanked me. Better than Nathan or Riley or Slade ever had. I was amazed that she was even able to keep up. Her muscles must be burning by now, but I felt no complaint in her, only her concern for me.Had I been trying to run away from her by pushing myself so hard? Pain gripped my chest. I slowed only slightly as I realized that no, I never wanted to be away from her. I needed her to be mine completely. I stopped at the edge of the cliff overlooking t

Chapter 36

Cammy's POV Nooo! Stop!!" I pushed Kai away from me, my chest rising and falling in rapid, uneven breaths. My pulse thundered in my ears as I stared at him, wide-eyed in shock. He was going to mark me—like this? I wanted to be angry, but the melded emotions of our bond—his hurt and mine—only left me confused, unsteady. Kai’s pitch-black eyes burned with rage, but beneath it, I sensed something raw, something deeper. He wasn’t just furious; he was wounded. But why? Why was he this mad at me? Wasn’t he supposed to love me? I felt his emotions as clearly as my own—there was no way I had misjudged them. “I want to mark my mate,” he growled, his voice husky with barely restrained emotion. He pulled me against him again, kissing up my shoulder before scraping his fangs down to where he intended to claim me. A shudder of pleasure coursed through me, nearly tempting me to give in, but my heart was still hammering, and a cold dread prickled along my skin. This wasn’t how it was suppose

Chapter 37

Cammy POV I hesitated outside the door of Luna Melissa’s home, adjusting the hem of my sweater. The huge house was beautiful but cold, much like the woman who lived inside it. I wrung the doorbell, and within seconds, it swung open. She'd probably already picked up that I was here the short while I'd talked myself out of leaving. My luna wasn't my biggest fan, but she was my mother in-law. And for that reason alone I found myself standing here after a long day of luna chores. Luna Melissa stood before me, her perfectly sculpted features unreadable. “Cameron,” she said smoothly, arching an eyebrow. “To what do I owe this… surprise?” I smiled despite the chill in the air between us. “I thought we could spend some time together. Just the two of us.” Her brown eyes flickered with something I couldn’t quite name before she stepped aside, gesturing for me to enter. “Tea?” she offered as I walked in. “That would be lovely, thank you.” Melissa moved with an effortless grace as s

Chapter 38

Melissa POV 19 years ago Luna Melissa sat on the edge of the empty bed, hands trembling as she clutched the fabric of her dress. The room was silent except for the steady breathing of the three-year-old boy curled up on the beside her. Kai. Her son. The only light in the suffocating darkness that had become her life. He had fallen asleep while the movers where setting up his crib in the nursery next to her room. The front door downstairs swung open with a force that made the walls tremble. Alpha Sigfried entered the bedroom, his broad frame filling the doorway, his face cast in shadow. The golden chandeliers of the Alpha House still flickered in the distance through the window, mocking her. She wasn’t allowed there anymore. She never would be. Melissa stood, straightening her spine despite the tremor in her limbs. “Sig—” “Don’t.” His voice was cold, cutting through her like ice. “Don’t you dare say my name like it means something.” Her breath hitched, but she forced herself

Chapter 39

Cammy POV I slowed to a jog as I neared the forest edge, my breath steady despite the unease curling in my stomach. The scent of marijuana drifted through the crisp morning air, mixing with the damp earth and pine. Kai was awake. And he was angry. I rolled my eyes heavenward, shifting into human form as I reached the perimeter of trees surrounding our property. Lately, Kai had been more volatile than usual. Not just the usual dominance and possessiveness—I had learned to navigate that. This was something deeper. Something raw. Ever since our conversation by the lake, he had been... different. Conflicted. He wasn’t just battling with me—he was battling himself. I shouldn’t have said the "L" word so soon. He wasn’t ready to hear it, let alone process it. Instead of acknowledging it, he had buried himself in control, asserting his dominance at every turn, reminding me that I belonged to him alone at every opportunity. Then I had to remind him of my love for him. My heart ached
