CHAPTER 41

Damion’s POV “Come off it, Laura!” I snapped. “How many times have I told you to stay out of my business with Mia?!”Everything about this situation was wrong. For one, she had no reason to be here. I had no clue how she managed to get past the guards without being stopped. And now, she knew I was in a bunker. It was only a matter of time before everyone started asking questions. That was something I wasn't ready for—questions being asked. “This is not a prank, Alpha Damion. If you don’t believe me, you can pick up the envelope and check out the pictures yourself.” I wanted to push her out of the room along with the package she had brought with her. But curiosity had held me in bondage and wouldn’t loosen its grip until I satisfied it. I tore open the envelope, making sure not to destroy its contents. Right in front of me were pictures that I disliked as soon as my eyes fell on them. “What the hell?” I muttered to myself, feeling my butt give way as I fell back onto the couc

CHAPTER 42

Lyra(Mia’s) POV Xander had really been a pain in the butt, and I mean that metaphorically for all you dirty-minded fellas in the house. For some reason—which he didn't spill—he had me driving all around town just to avoid cops. I kept my hand on the wheel with the impression that I was harboring a criminal. As a Luna, that was not an impression you wanted people to have of you. We had spent over an hour trying to keep our tracks covered before I could finally sneak him through the gate. By the time I had dropped him off at the spot where his car was parked, it was getting to nightfall. I had lost the hour I would have used to catch some sleep. "I'm sorry we had to go through all this stress. I promise the next time won't be like this." I shot him a glare. I wished there wasn’t a second time, that I wouldn't get to see him again for the rest of my life. But wishes were horses, and I had no idea how to ride. I had to see him again. It was the only way my plan for revenge w

CHAPTER 43

Lyra(Mia's)POV I didn't have peace of mind until I got back to the palace. It was tempting to let myself go, but I had to put a lock on those loose feelings. Last time, I had ended up losing my life. Who knows what was going to be my fate this time? As usual, the festivities welcomed me as I drove through the streets. Sandra wasn't kidding when she said that everyone was excited about this night. I had witnessed it firsthand. The only thing I was worried about the most was getting back to Alpha Damion. I hoped that he would be in a better mood than when I had left him this morning. He wasn't mean to me. He was absent. I had only seen him all morning except for the one time he had delegated today's management to me. I met Logan at the door. "Happy festivities," I exclaimed. The cheerful mood had infected me. "Oh, someone is in a bitter mood." His face was not in the least inviting. If flares could kill, the doorway would have been painted red and splattered with bits of

CHAPTER 44

Damion’s POV I was too disappointed to think. I was too angry to find reason in the situation. All that registered in my head was that she was cheating on me—and to make it worse, she was cheating on me with Xander. “Were you ever planning on telling me that Xander had shown up?” I asked, unable to keep a low tone. “You better not lie, or I'm going to skin you alive.” She put her hands tighter in a begging gesture. “No. That’s the truth. I was hoping that I could handle him and not get you involved…” I scoffed. “It’s my fault. I was the one stupid enough to think that you were not lying to me for once. I was the one silly enough to think that you were worth giving the benefit of the doubt. I should have known that given the chance, you were going to jump ships. An apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” “Please. I’m being honest.” I was already boiling, and her apologies were only making things worse. Especially when I knew her words were nothing but false. That familia

CHAPTER 45

Lyra(Mia's)POV.How dumb of me to think that staying back was the best choice in this situation. You can't blame me for choosing to think that way. After all, I had just gotten on his bad side. Sticking around would have surely warmed his heart. But watching those tattered buds grind wistfully, I was assured that the only thing getting warm was his appetite. And there he was, the perfect man, just eating under debris. As fear-induced demand dictated, I moved back. “What is going on, Alpha Damion?” I knew he was cruel at heart, but I never expected to see him morph into a monster. This was too far for a reaction. Yes, I had been trying to help sneak out Xander from the back after giving him attention, but that didn't mean he should show up with fangs. “You are done for. You and the rest of this pack. Once again, I’ll make sure the young mourn as the whole pack suffers. They’ll crumble under me.” “Where has this come from?” I asked, looking toward the door. I was panicking, but I

CHAPTER 46

Lyra(Mia’s)POV The hallway was a mess. Shrieks welcomed me as people were taking to their heels in all directions. I had to take a step back to avoid getting hit by a girl who couldn't bother to watch where she was heading. I couldn't blame her. I had never seen such a pandemonium in my life. “This is crazy,” I muttered aloud. There were marks on the floor and on the walls, and shattered glass lined the floor just where I was about to plant my foot for the next step. The scent of blood hit my body hard, making me shudder. Bodies lay sprawled and scattered across the ground. Some of them were still quivering, fighting to revive the flickering flame of life, while others lay so alarmingly still. The torches lining the hall flickered erratically, casting eerie shadows over the destruction. This had the vast, written all over it. All around the crime scene were Damion’s footprints and claw imprints. Chaos heralded his presence, and devastation stuck around just after he had left. “

CHAPTER 47

Lyra(Mia's)POVPeople were getting lesser and lesser by the minute. They had a choice. It was either they are wound up in a pile on the ground at Damion’s feet, or they were fleeing for their loved ones. You wouldn’t wanted to end up on the latter list, but it was hard to get that line of luck when an obvious beast like Damion was on the loose. Fewer people meant that soon enough, I would have his attention on me. “Oh great, you are here,” I heard someone say behind me. I turned to see Damion's mother. She was accompanied by Logan, who looked devastated, to say the least. But that didn’t catch my eye as sharply as the fact that they were both empty-handed. “Did you not get the wolfsbane?” I asked. “Are you blind? Do you see any on me?” His mother barked as she kept her voice low. She didn’t want to be heard by her son. Logan jumped in for the rescue. “There is too much crowd. Everyone is more concerned about getting to safety rather than looking for wolfsbane.” “Maybe if she di

CHAPTER 48

Lyra(Mia’s)POVI should have fled. At that moment, I regretted everything that led me up to this moment. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have made sure to run away as fast as I could. Just looking at those eyes was enough to chase away any atom of conviction I had managed to muster. But there was no turning back—his eyes were locked onto mine. If I made any attempt to move, I would be the best target. “Please, Damion. You need to stop with this madness. You are hurting people. You need to stop.” I made sure to yell at the top of my lungs. But I was even more sure that my message didn't get to him. If anything, it bounced off as soon as it hit his ears. He kept charging forward. The ground chimed as he kept taking heavy steps closer. All he did was inhale as he walked closer. I wasn’t just calling out to him—I had a plan. And it was a great one if he would stick to me. I was hoping to ensure I stuck this blade into his chest. “Damion!” I screamed. “You don’t want

CHAPTER 49

Lyra(Mia’s)POVThat was loud enough to wake up anyone who was asleep—that is, if there was a slim chance that anyone would fall into slumber despite the chaos going on. I shut my ears and jumped back as the noise left his lips. My first thought—that he was about to attack—had been debunked, so I moved closer, lifting his hairy face to meet mine. Damion blinked. And for the briefest moment, his red eyes flickered back to gray. My heart leaped in hope that he was coming back. But then a loud horn sounded. I looked back sharply to see Logan at the back end of the loud horn. It was his signal to let me know he was on standby. “No, wait. Don’t fire. He is back to normal,” I yelled out in plea. But my voice fell on deaf ears. “Fire!” he commanded. Immediately, the little darts poked out of the guns and were headed right at us. I heard the grunts but quickly focused on the darts as they blew through the air. They came in from all directions mercilessly. “No,” I screamed as I watched t

CHAPTER 50

Damion’s POV Every part of my body was hurting. My legs felt like they were about to split in half anytime soon. Even the slightest movement was sending signals that shot through my nerves, making even breathing a struggle. I could hear a steady beeping sound in the background and the chatter of people. They didn't sound near, but their jumbled discussions were not clear enough. The light hit hard as I slowly lifted my eyelids. It took a couple of seconds and blinks to finally acclimate to the intrusion of light. "Where am I?" I managed to mutter. The answer was before me. All I could see was white—sheets and emptiness. There was no one in sight as far as my eyes could stretch. Sitting up would have given me a better chance to see the room, but my arms felt like a thousand grams were pressing down on them. I decided to lift a finger, but a sharp pain immediately repelled me. The thick smell of antiseptic whipped my nostrils, leading me to let out a sharp sniff. My eyes took i
