Chapter 11

“What the hell do you think you're doing, Monroe?” Jordan asked with an icy death stare.Roshan rose slowly to his feet and turned to face him. Both men looked like demigods as they stood eye to eye."Hello, Kingston.” Roshan drawled lazily and extended a hand to Jordan.Jordan ignored his outstretched hand and continued to stare at him. “I asked you a question."Roshan looked at me briefly, and I swallowed audibly. “Wait, are you two together?”Jordan quirked an eyebrow. A part of my mind that wasn't yet affected by the alcohol urged me to say something, but I simply looked from one man to another.“Well?" Roshan asked impatiently.I let out a hiccup before answering. “I'm.. I'm his secretary. We're the– no, yes, we came here together.”It took him a moment to understand me, but he soon smiled. “Oh! You're his secretary! Kingston, that's one hell of a beautiful secretary you've got. So remind me again what your question was."Jordan looked very angry. He turned towards me without a w

Chapter 12

Marissa's POVI blinked my eyes open slowly. Light filtered in through a source that I struggled to find. My heart began beating rapidly.Where was I? The walls of this place were unfamiliar, and so was the bed that I lay in. I felt my heart constrict in fear as I tried to remember what had happened last night.I lay still, but my eyes darted frantically around the room in search of a clue. They rested on a picture frame on the bedside table and I breathed a sigh of relief. It was a photo of the Kingston's. I knew because I had seen this exact photograph on his office table.Wait… what did this mean? I was in his room? What was I doing in his room!? I jumped up to a sitting position, and let out a small yelp.My head felt heavy as a rock. Oh shit! How many glasses of wine had I taken last night again? I held my head in both hands and slowly rose from the bed.It was at this time that I noticed the clothes. I was wearing a pair of shorts that hung loosely from my waist and fell to my

Chapter 13

“Where the hell have you been?" Chloe yelled when she opened the door and saw me. “What the hell, Rissa? I've been trying to reach you since last night!"Shit! I'd texted her to say that I was going to some dinner party with Mr Kingston, but my phone went off last night, and with all that was happening, I totally forgot about reaching out to her. Even this morning."I'm so sorry, Chloe. I just… I can explain. It's a long story."“You better start talking." She said, and held the door wider. I walked in with a large shopping bag that contain the dress, shoes and jewelry from last night. Mr Kingston had insisted that I keep them. It was one of the on-the-job perks, he'd said.I fell into a chair and told her all about yesterday to this morning, starting from the visit to Cassie's, whom I was certain was Mr Kingston's girlfriend, to the party itself, to meeting Roshan whom I wasn't sure I would recognize if I saw him today, to waking up in Mr Kingston's house.“Wait, wait, wait, so you

Chapter 14

Marissa's POVI looked at my wristwatch for the umpteenth time that day. Anthony and I had agreed to meet at 2, because that was the time for my lunch break.I wasn't eager to see him. I hadn't seen him since that morning when I signed the divorce papers that he handed me and packed my things out of the house.I wasn't sure what his plan was, but I knew Anthony enough to know that he had a plan, and that was why he'd asked that we meet. Regardless of whatever his plan was, though, my mind was made up. Anthony and I were done. I wasn't going back.I hadn't seen much of Mr Kingston today. He had been closeted in his office dealing with some work, and had asked to be left alone. That was even better for me. It meant that he wouldn't miss me when I left to meet Anthony.Yes, it was my lunch break, but sometimes, he needed me to do some work even at that time, and I either got to go for lunch much later or I just didn't go at all.I didn't mind much, really. I ate lunch at the office cafet

Chapter 15

“Who the hell did it?” Anthony asked with anger evident in his tone.I hiccuped and pushed down a fresh bout of tears. He was the last person I wanted to see me like this. I tried to steady my voice before speaking.“W.. who did what, sir?" The voice that asked the question wasn't mine. It shook terribly, and I felt more tears gather in my eyes.Instead of answering me, Jordan simply held both of my hands, pulled me up from where I sat on the revolving chair, and gathered me into his arms. This seemed to be the last straw. I let out even more nerve wracking sobs, and felt his shirt begin to get wet underneath my tears. I knew that I ought to stop, but no matter how much I told myself to stop, the tears just continued to flow. I wrapped my arms around him to steady myself, and he seemed to tighten his embrace around me. After what felt like minutes, the sobs finally slowed into hiccups. My head was starting to ache and I sniffled a couple times. I let my head lay against Jordan's che

Chapter 16

Marissa's POV The lawyer that Mr Kingston connected me with was a lifesaver. He was kind, and he listened to me. At first, I wondered how he'd managed to make his reputation as a ruthless divorce lawyer but soon got the answer to my question when he sent the first notice to Anthony. There was very little room for negotiation. And while I said I didn't care whether or not I got Anthony's money, Mr Thatcher cared very much.Mr Kingston and I had gotten more comfortable around each other since the crying incident three days ago. The way that he'd handled the situation that day had taken my respect for him to a whole new level, but for him, it seemed to have made him kinder where I was concerned. Now, as I finished editing the final draft of his keynote address at the entrepreneurial workshop, I forwarded it to him and awaited a response. He was usually fast with his responses, but not this time. After an hour had passed, I got up and headed to his office. It was locked. That was strang

Chapter 17

“What are you doing here?” He asked me when he finally stopped coughing.I was somewhat flustered as I responded. “I.. er.. I needed your approval before sending out the keynote speech to the organizers of Friday's seminar. I tried calling, but you didn't answer. I didn't know you were sick.” He nodded. "Yea, about that, let them know I can't be there on Friday.”"What?” He'd talked about how this could help further put Kingston in the public eye.“What?" He asked.“I don't know… it's just… you talked so much about how important this was earlier.” I responded.“Yea, I know that, but does it look like I can go anywhere in this condition?”“No, but I think that you could send someone to represent you."He seemed to consider the idea for a bit, then he waved it off. “Where's Lilian?"“Who?" I asked, confused.“Lilian. My sister. She said she was going to make me some soup. Where's she?"Oh! So she was his sister. "She had to go. She said something about needing to pick someone from s

Chapter 18

I swallowed deeply as my eyes traveled down his body. He was.. gorgeous. The man was built like a Greek god. My eyes lingered a little longer than it ought to on his lower body, and I swallowed inaudibly. He cleared his throat suddenly and I almost jumped out of my skin. “Oh my God! I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!” I said and ran out the bathroom.Outside, I paced. What was wrong with me? Why did I just stand there, staring? God, this was so embarrassing.Jordan stepped out of the bathroom and into the room with a robe wrapped around his body, and I immediately pulled myself together. “I'm sorry for….”He brushed it off with a wave of hands before I could complete the statement.“Do you need help?” I asked, taking a step forward, but again, he refused.“Nah, I'm good."Slowly, he made his way to the bed. I waited for him to settle into it before speaking.“What happened in there?" I asked, pointing in the direction of the bathroom. He shrugged. "I don't know. I got a little dizzy, rested

Chapter 19

Jordan's POVIt was morning. Light filtered into the room through a small opening between the curtains. I pulled myself out of the bed and into the bathroom. The debris from the washing hand basin had been cleaned up. I wondered how deeply I must have slept if Dane had come in to clear the mess and I hadn't heard him.I picked up my phone and went down the stairs. The smell of food cooking wafted up my nose at the same time that I heard the music.Marissa stood at the stove dancing to a Taylor Swift song and swinging the spoon in her hand around. I smiled. It was good to see her like this; free and without a single care in the world.I certainly hadn't expected to find her here. In the living room sitting primly and waiting for me to come down so she could leave maybe, but certainly not in the kitchen dressed in Lilian's clothes which were a size smaller, and dancing terribly as she made breakfast. My eyes veered subconsciously to her buttocks in the shorts. Oh, but she was beautiful

Chapter 20

Jordan's POVI watched the car zoom off with a stupid smile on my face. She had blushed and smiled prettily when I thanked her.I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew one thing for sure. I liked Marissa as a lot more than just an employee. She wasn't my usual type. She was kind and homely, far from the models and actresses I was used to associating with, and what with the issue with her ex husband who wasn't yet her ex husband, she certainly came with a lot of baggage. Not that I was looking to do anything about the way that I felt, but I was just saying, she was a very attractive woman. She was short. 5’7 at best, what she lacked in height, she made up for in curves. She had a heart shaped face and her eyes were a very light shade of brown. Her auburn shoulder length hair was wavy, and she had very, very attractive lips.As I thought of these things in my head, I mentally chided myself about the downsides of sleeping with an employee. That was never a good idea. It was something
