Chapter 20 - Tracking

Marly POV My heart raced as I waited to see what Carson’s reaction would be. I was an amateur at hacking, but I had quickly found the discrepancy in the code. What perplexed me was how Carson’s IT team had missed it. Or had they ignored it? I had no idea, but I was anxiously waiting for his reply. “How?” he asked tersely. I looked up at him, as he continued to monitor the screen. “Do you see these letters here?” I asked as I pointed to a particular section. Nodding, “Yes,” he confirmed. “That was built inside the system. If someone were to hack your system, I would see their fingerprints, if you will, in the code,” I summarized. “What happens if you delete it?” he asked. I held my breath for a moment, before slowly releasing it. “It will take us back to whoever’s computer created it,” I stated. “Will you be able to find out who is hacking our system?” he asked. I looked at him, “If someone is in fact hacking it,

Chapter 21 - Lost

Carson POV I felt the bullet slice through the flesh of my skin. It was only a flesh wound, but the feeling of silver in the bullet left a trail of burning flesh. I moved forward, grabbing the shooter by the throat and ripping his head from his body. I should have waited to kill him, but I knew there were others nearby. I waited for the others to call out clear, waiting for Jeff and Sarah to respond as the final team. I heard scuffling and a man shout out in pain. I moved towards the back of the house, to see Jeff and Sarah dragging a man with them. I did not recognize him but would get to know him intimately very soon. Jeff shoved the man towards me, and he fell to his knees. “Why?” I demanded. The man simply laughed at me. I backhanded him, watching blood spurt from his lips. He looked back with a smirk, like he was high. Blood was staining his teeth. “Who are you?” I asked, moving closer to the man.

Chapter 22 - Where Is She?

Marly POV I felt the pain in my head. Throbbing, making me feel nauseous. I tried to sit up, but I realized I was tied down with something. I tried to open my eyes, but my eyelids were heavy. Like they were weighted down. I tried to connect with Layla, my wolf, but I was met with silence. “She should not wake up for a couple hours. We are fine to leave her alone,” the voice said. I struggled to open my eyes. I was certain I recognized the voice but the fogginess in my brain was preventing me from putting my finger on who it was. Why was the voice so familiar and why did a chill run down my spine? I must have passed out again from the pain. I woke again, feeling a bit better. I was not feeling sick anymore, and I felt a little more alert this time. I slowly peeled my eyes open and was met with a room that was darkening. There was a window in the room, and I could see that the day was turning to night.

Chapter 23 - Terror

Marly POV “How long have I been here?” I wondered. I had not had any food or water. I had only seen the Gamma a handful of times. I wondered if he was just confirming I was still alive. I did not feel like I would be much longer. I was weak and my arms and legs were numb from having been in the same position for so long. I heard voices, and I strained to see what I could hear. I heard mumbling, and the voices were clearer as they got closer to the room where I was being held. I held my breath, afraid of what was on the other side of the door. The doorknob turned and I felt my breath expel quickly. Alpha Luke stood at the door entrance, a smirk on his face. “Aren’t so cocky now are you, Omega?” he taunted. “I was never cocky,” I rasped out, wanting to beat him, but with my hands tied I did not know how it would or could happen. “Of course, but you did not hesitate to leave when you had the chance,” he commented.

Chapter 24 - Alive

Marly POV The pain piercing my flesh was unbearable. I continued to scream, until I felt the Alpha ripped from my body. He took a piece of my flesh with him. Tears were streaming down my face, and then there was another body looming above me. I started to scream again, afraid of what was to come. “Marly! Marly, sweetheart, it is me. It is Carson,” I hear, but his words are not making sense to me. It is a trick. To try and get me to cooperate. It makes me more frantic and even with my arms and legs restrained, I am making it difficult for the man above me to touch me. “Marly!” he yelled, as I started to whimper in fear. Where was Carson? Would he get here in time? I felt the man touch my face, and he brought his face close to mine. “It is me, Marly. I am here, baby,” I heard again. I looked to Carson and scanned his face. “Carson?” I whispered. “It is me, baby, I am here,” he said as he quickly untied my arms and l

Chapter 25 - Complications

Carson POV I paced outside the operating room, waiting for word on Marly. I cursed myself at taking so long to find her. Seeing that bastard with his canines in her throat. I could feel her fear before I saw her and all I wanted was to get there before he could hurt her. And I had almost been too late. I was reeling from Alpha Luke’s words that my first mate was still alive. I did not believe him. We had buried her; I remembered those fateful days. The pain. The desire to stop living. Those days were very real. I had hunted the rogues down who had killed her. And then I went into a drunken stupor for days. The guilt haunting me. And now I was being haunted once again. For the mate I had been gifted as my second chance mate. And for the mate I had believed was long gone from this world. I had seen the pain on Marly’s face when Luke had spilled his guts. The fear that crossed her face. I had wanted to

Chapter 26 - Awake

Carson POV We went through the darkened halls of the dungeons, the stench a reminder of the filth trapped here. I felt the rage inside me fuel my need to destroy Alpha Luke. He had brought up feelings I had long since buried and put to rest. Now they were rolling around inside my head, wondering how this could have happened. If it even did happen. We arrived at the Alpha’s cell. He was cuffed with silver to the wall, his arms above his head. It was evident that Jeff had spent some time trying to get Luke to talk. He had not been successful. Luke was stronger than I expected. Jeff is one of the best at torture, yet this bastard had not crumbled under the pressure. I walked in slowly, looking the Alpha over. He slowly lifted his head, his eyes almost swollen shut, blood dripping from various wounds on his face. He slowly smiled, “Ahh, I see you have managed to pull yourself away from that useless Omega,” he managed to taunt

Chapter 27 - Shift

Marly POV My skin was burning. I could feel the movement under my skin as Layla tried to control our shift. I felt pain everywhere; it was almost unbearable. I knew Layla had healed me. She had been talking to me softly throughout the process. The expedited healing had left me exhausted, but now I was faced with a bigger challenge. I felt Carson lift me in his arms. The touch of his skin against mine helped ease some of my discomfort temporarily. I leaned into him, needing to feel him close to me. “Hang on, sweetheart,” he murmured to me, as I felt tears sting my eyes. I did not know if I could wait much longer. I heard the doctor yelling something in the background, but Carson simply growled and continued moving forward. The fresh air as we exited the hospital helped me breathe through the next wave of pain. The forest was within feet of us now. “Put me down,” I muttered to Carson, trying to get out of his arms.

Chapter 28 - Confused

Carson POV Marly was a white wolf. She was stunning and it meant our pack was blessed. What would her special talent be? I had no idea, but I could not wait to find out. I saw Marly starting to sway in front of me. She was exhausted. I was proud of her. She had handled her shift very well. Shifting is not typically that intense. I could only assume it was because Marly was a special wolf, that the first shift took so long. I swept Marly into my arms and slowly walked back to where our clothing was. She had long since fallen asleep in my arms and I was reluctant to wake her. “Marly, it’s time to wake up,” I said softly. She let out a soft growl, which caused me to smile. My little mate, and wolf were going to give me a lot of attitude, I thought to myself. I slowly released her legs, letting them slide down my body so she was standing in front of me. She stood there swaying slightly as I grabbed my

Chapter 29 - Confirming

Marly POV I quietly shut the door behind me, as I walked into the room I was currently using. I took a deep breath, as I contemplated what would happen next. I would likely be moving my room to another floor, if I am allowed that courtesy. What was a moment of joy after shifting, suddenly felt heavy and uncomfortable. I had no idea what this meant, but I knew it would change things for Carson and myself. I quickly wiped away the sting of tears that started to fill my eyes. I refused to cry over a destiny that I had known would never be mine. I had to focus on getting my courses finished and then leaving Carson and the Full Moon Pack behind. I heard a soft tap on my door and turned as I watched the door open. “Marly?” I heard Carson say before he walked into the room. I paused as he entered. “Why did you leave?” he asked me as he came closer. “I think it is best that we put some distance between us,” I stated calmly. Calme
