Hearing Nicole’s words, James snapped awake instantly. In the blink of an eye, he was out of his car and sprinting toward the elevator as fast as he could. By the time he reached Nicole’s apartment, he was panting—and immediately froze at the sight before him. His boss, Travis, flat on the floor, blood still trickling from his forehead. James’s legs nearly gave out. “Ma’am… was this really necessary?” he blurted, his voice an octave higher than usual. “I mean, sure, Mr. Graham runs his mouth sometimes, but deep down, he still loves you—” Nicole shot him a sharp glare, cutting him off. She wasn’t in the mood for nonsense. “Less talking, more helping,” she ordered. “Flip your boss over, clear the hair around the wound—I need to stop the bleeding.” James immediately snapped to attention.
