A Knock at the Door

Room number 501 read the door of the room where her feet ceased. A tanned brunette, not more than 26, dressed in a black lace top and pencil skirt, her lips painted wine red. She threw a peek at her timepiece which showed 21:30 and she heaved a sigh, relieved that she had shown up on time. She knocked three times at the door. In less than a minute, it opened for her. She looked to her left and then to her right to make sure the coast is clear before entering the room. But as soon as she walked into the dim space, a sharp object crept upon her neck and the door immediately shut behind her. Her breath hitched in her throat when the person whose only hands and eyes she could see in the dim light trapped her against the wall with her wrists over her head. His eyes, menacing and fierce, and a scar across his right eye added to his intimidating persona. "I hope you're not carrying any weapons," he whispered raspily as he brought his face closer to hers, one hand still keeping the knif

Zane Kang

18 months ago "Someone got them before us," Jonathan, the mafia consigliere told his boss, Zane. "Who the hell?" Zane yelled, his hand balled into a fist out of fury. "L-Lorenzo K-Kim," John stammered, causing Zane's anger to soar beyond bounds. Lorenzo Kim! This bloke from the rival Kim clan, had been causing him constant troubles for the past year, sweeping off all of his contracts, associates, and whatnot, being a constant threat to him and his position of Korea's biggest mobster. And, at the time, they were addressing the same concern in Zane's office in order to find a solution to it. "And how the f*ck you have no clue about it?" He demanded an answer from Vanessa, the gun-moll, the woman he had ingeniously fed his adversary, to become his confidante and sneak his secrets to him. "We've just been seeing each other for a couple of months," she explained. "I don't f*cking live with him to know what he's up to." "Then why haven't you moved in with him yet?" Zane shouted at he

Lorenzo Kim

Present Day"Leave me!" a woman’s cry echoed in the air, bringing a knocked out Zane back to his senses. He blinked his eyes to clear his vision, to see what was going on. His hands straining against the ropes that restrained him ,Though, the severe pain in his head prevented him from opening his eyes properly. It didn't take him long to realize that his wrists and feet were tied. Even his mouth was taped shut. After some attempts his vision finally cleared. The sight in front of him made his stomach drop, that too, for the first time in his life.Vanessa was right in front of him, sobbing, her eyes red and puffy, a single cut across her cheek causing blood to drip. She was struggling in Lorenzo’s grasp who had roughly clutched her hair in his fists and was now marking a cut across her neck, right where Zane had left a hickey. The white shirt she wore was drenched in blood, with a tear in it precisely at her left rib cage, the spot of her Lorenzo Kim tattoo. Several other cuts all ac

Vanessa Kim

Zane beamed proudly, impressed at how earlier she was not confessing, but rather deftly diverting Lorenzo's attention, to let his guards down in the influence of emotions and lose sight of the weapon."Boss!" Vanessa threw the knife at Zane, who grabbed it and began cutting the ropes off his feet while she now held the gun at Lorenzo's temple."I love you and he's only using you. He'd leave you once you're not useful to him. There's only one man who loves you and you know that it's me. Is this what I get as a prize for loving you?" Lorenzo faked sobs in his attempts to convince Vanessa otherwise."I'm not someone who is loved. I'm a fantasy. I belong with no one," she replied coldly."I suppose my doom has arrived then," he chuckled. "Would you grant my last wish? I want to kiss you before I die.""You think you can distract me with that?" She clenched her jaws."You're not focused enough to begin with," he grinned. "You'd have pulled the trigger by now if you were."He knew her for m

The Innocent Troublemaker

7 years agoZane sat with John in his room, indulged in alcohol and a game of chess. "How can you trust a person you just picked off the streets?" John asked, his tone careful yet concerned. "She doesn't even have a name-""This is exactly why I can trust her," said Zane, smirking. He wasn't so naïve to trust a stranger without first evaluating all the possibilities. He had done his homework on her, and he knew why she was a solid candidate for the position he was searching for."She’s been abandoned, left to fend for herself, with no name to call her own. When I found her, she was desperate, clinging to survival. But you don’t see what I see—she’s more than a lost soul. She’s a weapon—razor-sharp, lethal, and untamed. I’d drape her in luxury, give her everything she could ever need or want, but it wouldn’t come freely. Her loyalty," he leaned back with a smirk, "would belong to me."Zane moved his queen across the board, capturing John’s king with a decisive checkmate. His smile wide

Waking Up in the Kangyu Dynasty

"You are, indeed, dumb," he laughed at her. "You realize you're rejecting something that many others only wish for? I'm offering you freedom, as well as a rich and wealthy lifestyle. Enjoy everything while you can, you're just nineteen.""I don't want freedom, and I've never tasted happiness," she said. "Mr. Jonathan is a very attractive man, but I'm not sure I'd want to sleep with him or any other man. I'm not a fan of clubs either. If something I've always wanted, that's a family, and no matter if it's a mafia family, I'd serve it with total sincerity. We should rather focus on teaching me whatever you want me to learn. I vow I'll do my job with zeal and devotion. Because, Mr. Kang," she paused, and he cocked his head, eagerly awaiting her final words."Although I may appear hopeless, the truth is, the moment you rescued me from that filth, I pledged to owe you with my life. You don't have to entice me to buy me. For money cannot buy what a simple act of kindness can," her lips quiv

One Day Ago in Kangyu Dynasty

One Day Ago in Kangyu DynastyThe royal convoy from Dharakand entered the boundaries of Namgyeol, with a palanquin carrying Princess Vaani of Dharakand and a procession of horses ridden by the princes and their troops.Namgyeol, the southern capital of Kangyu, unfolded before them in all its splendor. The air was calm and refreshing, the city exuding an inviting, peaceful atmosphere. The gentle breeze brushed against the princess’s face as she peeked through the curtains of her palanquin, her eyes taking in the vibrant, alluring sights of the capital. At the city’s entrance, a group of Royal Guards, led by their captain Kim Insu, welcomed them.“His Majesty wanted to welcome Your Royal Highness personally,” Captain Insu said while bowing in curstey, “but he had to attend to the preparations for the tourney.”“Is there some special occasion today?” Prince Vir, Princess Vaani’s half-brother asked, excitedly.“Indeed, Your Royal Highness. Since it’s your first visit to the Kingdom of Kan

Rivalry at First Sight

Vaani had a plan—a ridiculous one, but a plan nonetheless. She made her way to Prince Vir’s tent at the tourney grounds, determined to carry it out. Wandering among the rows of tents, she came across a servant who kindly pointed her in the direction of her brothers’ quarters. Following his instructions, she pushed aside the flap of what she thought was Vir’s tent. But as she stepped inside, she found it empty. No one was there. Her eyes fell on a pile of garments carelessly tossed onto the bed—a black hanbok, exactly like the one she had noticed a man wearing outside."You’re not supposed to be here," a cold voice interrupted from behind, making her spin around."I’m sorry, I—" she stammered, her words faltering as she took in the man before her. Clad in a green hanbok, his face concealed by a piece of cloth, he stood stiffly, his hands clasped behind his back. His piercing brown eyes fixed on her, and she felt as if they were boring straight into her soul."Your brothers’ tent is the

A Slip of Tongue

“How did you get these cuts, Your Highness?” the royal physician asked, carefully wrapping bandages around Vaani’s arms and wrists.“I-I… fell down the stairs,” Vaani stammered, avoiding his gaze as her eyes flickered nervously. The physician’s lips curved into a knowing smile. “Certainly, you didn’t happen to take part in the tourney to get injuries like these, did you?”Her heart skipped a beat, and she blinked at him, puzzled. “Uh… what do you mean?”He chuckled softly. “I’ve treated all kinds of injuries, Your Highness. By now, I can tell the difference between cuts from a sword and bruises from a fall.”Vaani’s cheeks flushed. “Please don’t tell anyone,” she whispered, her voice filled with urgency. The physician chuckled again, his smile reassuring. “Why would I?”Her curiosity piqued, and she tilted her head. “You seem awfully young for a royal physician. How old are you?”“You’re quite observant, Princess. I turn twenty soon,” he replied. Her brows shot up in surprise. “You’re

Someone Jumped into the Royal Lake

“Apologies, Your Royal Majesty. My sister can be uncontrollably childish at times. She doesn’t always think before she speaks,” Lakshya said, rising from his seat with a bow. “Perhaps it’s due to her health. Please excuse us for a moment.”With that, he pulled Vaani and Vir out of the dining hall, Vir trailing behind with a confused expression.Once they were out of earshot, Lakshya whirled on them, his voice low but seething with frustration. “I knew this birdbrain would never be good enough to face a skilled swordsman.”“But I—” Vir started to defend himself, but Lakshya cut him off with a sharp glare, offering no support.“How could you both be so negligent?” Lakshya hissed, his eyes narrowing with displeasure. “Do you have any idea who that was? Our entire future depends on this alliance. The survival of our nation relies on it!”“It’s not his fault,” Vaani mumbled, her voice quiet but firm. “I locked him in the dresser.”“When will you grow up, Vaani?” Lakshya snapped, exasperatio
