Talia’s POV“We cannot allow you to get away with this heinous crime you’ve committed. I, in particular, cannot ever bring myself to forgive you for what you’ve done.” He blurted out. This wasn’t happening, right? It’s a dream.“It is taboo for men of elegance, class, and royalty to forgive a scandalous woman like yourself, let alone allow her to stand in my presence.” The other man said as he shrugged with a cold smirk. I gripped the wall for support as dizziness washed over me. I tried very hard to steady myself.“What…what are you saying? Please, say something else.” I said slowly, tears forming in my eyes, but they looked away.“We cannot let this happen. I mean, how can I make you my wife? You would only bring shame to my family name.” He said.“But you said you loved me. Was all that a lie?” I said, tears streaming down my face. I couldn’t believe this was happening.“That was all to use you. We were bored, and in need of someone to fulfill our desires. Who is better than some

Talia’s POV“It seems like you’re ready to die already,” Lorenzo said. “You’re sure that your fate is decided and you’re willing to accept it.” “We both know the truth, Lorenzo.” I chuckled. It was pointless for me to keep beating around the bush or trying to stall. There was no way I was going to walk out of this alive and I’ve known for a long time now. For what it was worth, I was glad that I fulfilled my last mission of making sure that neither Lorenzo nor Marissa died at the hands of John or Matteo. Nothing else mattered to me anymore, I just wanted to meet my fate and get it over with. Life had never been fair to me and it wasn’t going to start now, I was pretty sure about that. I was terrified of him and he knew it. He could smell my fear and he relished in it. He stood before me, his broad frame hovered above me, his hands crossed on his chest, and his eyes were devoid of emotion and swallowed by darkness, the beast had taken over and I couldn’t escape. “Tell me somethin

Lorenzo’s POVI fell silent as I watched her every move, trying to decipher what the hell was going on. She wasn’t scared. She didn’t sound scared, she sounded assured and her demeanor was calm as well. She held my eyes and there was no fear in her blue orbs, only peace. If I didn’t know any better and I knew I wasn’t assuming, I felt like she had a death wish. It was almost like she had made peace with the fact that she was going to die soon and nothing else seemed to bother her. I couldn’t tell if she was telling the truth or if she was trying to get me to lose my composure and kill her here and now. “If you’re trying to lie to me, you know I’m going to figure it out, right?” I said, crossing my arms on my chest. “Why would I lie to you, Lorenzo?” Talia shrugged. “It makes no sense to do so, it’s pointless right now and you know it.”“You’re eager to die, is that it? You want me to kill you and get it over with?” “What are you talking about?” All I did was—“ “Frankly speaking,

Lorenzo’s POVI made my way to my study to find Marissa waiting for me. She held a glass of wine in her hand as she sat in my chair, her legs on the table. She looked very comfortable and at home. “Is there a good reason why you’re here, Marissa?” I asked, my voice harsher than I intended but there was no point in apologizing for it. “You’re pissed about something,” Marissa said, her eyes glued to me as I walked towards the minibar to pour whiskey into an empty glass. “You haven’t answered my question,” I said, pouring the contents of the cup down my throat before pouring out another half glass of whiskey. “I came to talk to you about something,” Mariss began before she paused as she watched what I was doing. “I’ve not seen you drink this much in the past week.”“You haven’t been looking,” I said, turning around to face her. “You should take it easy on the drinking.” She said, frowning a bit. “What did you want to talk to me about?” I asked, taking a sip from the glass in my han

Talia’s POVThere was nothing for me to do here other than sleep and have my meals at the same time every day. It was a tiring routine that I desperately wanted to end. I finally overcame my fears and told Lorenzo about my feelings for him. It went just the way I knew it would go and I wasn’t particularly upset that he felt I was lying, if I were in his shoes I would have the same opinion but it felt nice and refreshing to finally get it off my chest. He felt I was being suicidal and trying to get him to kill me and maybe he was right, I didn’t particularly know what I wanted. I stopped caring about a lot of things after I recovered from being shot and it’s been that way ever since. It wasn’t a gimmick or an attempt to garner sympathy as he thought, I knew the end was near and I had already prepared myself. Doing anything aside that would be living in delusion and I didn’t want to put myself in that situation. It would only hurt more when it was time for me to pay for my crimes.

Talia’s POVMy mouth hung open in shock as I felt my cheeks redden instantly as the words left Marissa’s mouth. How did she know about that? Did Lorenzo tell her about it? I quickly discarded the idea. I knew Lorenzo well enough to know that he didn’t take my profession of love seriously and he likely discarded it as soon as I said it and that meant he wouldn’t have bothered to share it with Marissa. “You need to close your mouth, Talia. It’s been hanging open for a while now.” Marissa reminded me and I snapped my mouth shut. “Thank you,” I said, clearing my throat. “Now that you’re back to yourself, will you do me the honor of answering my question?” Marissa asked me again. She was unrelenting and she wasn’t going to let it slide. She was easily the most tenacious person I’ve ever met by a comfortable margin. I started coughing, hoping to throw her off my back. I took a sneak peek and I found her watching me, unimpressed with my antics. “You’re probably just assuming what isn’

Lorenzo’s POV I stared out into the distance as I watched the starry night. It’s been a few days since I left Paris without informing anyone about my plans. I was hoping that my gut had been right and that Marissa would’ve seen my letter by now but I didn’t put a lot of thought into it. The earlier she could learn to detach from Talia, the better it would be for the both of them. I knew leaving impromptu was a wrong move but it was a decision that I had to make for both our sakes. We couldn’t continue like this, like we weren’t certain about what we both wanted from this and while I had eventually come around to telling Marissa what I wanted, I didn’t quite understand why she had thought I was crazy. If I were in her shoes, I would’ve probably done the same thing as well. Besides, the plan wasn’t to keep Talia alive for this long but I had broken my sacred rule and that was when I knew that I had to hasten things up. “Are you done punishing yourself, Lorenzo?” I sighed as Mariss

Lorenzo’s POVMy mouth hung open for a second before I regained my composure and snapped it shut. The only reason I hadn’t lost my mind and gone on a rampage was because Marissa was my sister.“If you were any other person, you’d be punished for the words you just said or worse, dead,” I said. “Threats aren’t going to change the fact and I’m sure that you know it as well, Lorenzo,” Marissa said. “And to be honest with you, I’m not here to piss you off, you know? I’m only trying to help, that’s the truth.” “Is this your way of helping?” I asked, a scowl plastered on my face. “Is it working?” “Not in a million years,” I replied. It was either she was being delusional or she was trying to get me to let a known betrayer go scot-free without serving any punishment. Marissa had always been nice growing up but she knew where to draw the line it seemed like it was a thing of the past now. She was hell-bent on trying to get me to forgive Talia and worse, she was trying to play match-mak

Talia’s POV“You’re being unreasonable right now, Talia and I’m sure you know it as much as I do.” “On the contrary, Marissa, I’m not. I just don’t understand what’s going on right now.” I retorted, suddenly feeling defensive. “But it seems you’ve figured it all out so why not indulge me in your findings after speaking to Lorenzo behind my back?” “Lorenzo is in love with you, Talia, I know it,” Marissa said. And I figured that she decided there wasn’t going to be any perfect time to relay the news, emotions were already running high. I laughed but it didn’t quite reach my eyes. “I don’t want to jump into any speculations yet until we hash this out. So how did you arrive at this conclusion? Because only a few days ago, Lorenzo came in here and when I poured out my heart to him, he looked like he wanted to strangle me to death.”“Trust me, I’m not going to let that mistake happen again and I have rectified it. I’ve not lied to you ever since and I won’t start now, I assure you.”“Can

Lorenzo’s POV I pondered on what approach I was going to take with Marissa and no matter what I thought, there wasn’t anyone that was going to go down well with Marissa considering how deep she was already. Besides, I was already riding my luck with this pact we had already and it was reaping dividends. The mafia was starting to make trades again and soon, we would be back on top. I didn’t like to toot my horn but I had to give it to myself. I was a brilliant man and I had played on Marissa’s intelligence to get through to her. It was the major reason I didn’t want her to stop acting desperate when it involved Talia but even then, I had a backup plan in case the original plan failed. I drove right up to the front door and immediately, the door was thrown open and Marissa came rushing outside. “I’ve been trying to call you all morning, Lorenzo!” Marissa said as she came rushing down the stairs. “I need your help with a lot of things.” “It’s nice to see you too, Marissa,” I r
