Chapter 57: Leonardo’s POV

Claire called me to share the details of each attack. She found that she was able to remember more and I was proud of her. After finishing our conversation, I turn to Mason in the back of my town car.“We have a problem.”“Is everything alright with your wife?” “Yes. She tried to visually take herself through both attacks and was able to remember a few things.” I see his face become even more stern as he waits for me to share Claire’s discoveries.“The first guy was waiting nearby for a cue. Someone close had to give him that cue for him to pose as the driver and kidnap Claire. She said he couldn’t have been there the whole time because I would’ve seen him. Which is true considering I usually speak with my driver privately through the front door window. The second attacker is a bit more serious. She said he wore a black Italian brioni suit. She recognized it because that’s the brand of my favorite suit. The other thing she noticed was that when he was leaving her suite, he had a blac

Chapter 57: Charlotte’s POV

Francisco had planned for a surprise to arrive at my house. In all honesty, I had hoped that it would be Claire’s dismantled body, but I was unpleasantly surprised by the man who stood on my doorstep as Francisco answered the door. The first thing I notice is his suit. A black Italian brioni suit, one of Leo’s favorite brands. I had accompanied him shopping when he had bought his first one. He had just entered a contract worth millions and became the youngest multimillionaire on the west coast. I remember his smile as he purchased the suit. A moment of pride and a mark of success. I also remember the diamond tennis bracelet he gifted me that day - a tribute to my loyalty to him. The simplest of times where he and I were genuinely happy and together. It wasn’t long until it became nothing but a distant memory. My father and his plots made sure of it.“Charlotte?” I must’ve zoned out as Francisco is standing in front of me with a look of confusion.“Who is this?” I ask abruptly. My anno

Chapter 58: Matthew’s POV

It had been a couple days since I’ve seen Claire and Leo. Being here in jail has given me time to reflect on so many things and I feel awful for Starla, who waiting for me at home but even worse, I feel horrible for Claire. When you have nothing but time, you start to think about what you’ve done and what you could’ve done better. I could’ve been a better brother, I could’ve behaved and treated her better and I was ashamed.I decide to call Claire to express my gratitude to her and apologize for my shortcomings.I wait a few seconds and hear Claire accept the call.“Hello?” I say excitedly.“Are you okay, Matthew?” She was worried for me.“Yeah. Well, Kind of. I’m still in jail but I have faith. How are you?” I genuinely wanted to know that she was okay and doing better than I was.“Well, I’m in the hospital but I’m okay.” She quickly adds reassurance. That was classic for Claire. She’d diminish the importance of her own words to make anyone feel comfortable and I knew by that, alone

Chapter 58: Claire’s POV

I think back to my first encounter with Charlotte. She had expressed her feelings about Leo right before the incident with her wheelchair and she had made it clear that there was no competition between her and myself. She claimed to be the only woman Leo had time for and at that time, it seemed true. I remember the feeling of hearing that he was asleep in her bed. He hadn’t admitted that to me but part of me believed it. He stopped at nothing to be by her side - once upon a time. He had even shoved me in rage of what happened on our anniversary. Looking back, I do feel as though that incident could’ve been staged. I examined her wheel being stuck and found nothing wrong, I was shoved right before she descended down the hill and met with cowering once she saw Leo approaching. Charlotte wasn’t as innocent as she portrayed herself to be and it was evident that she didn’t particularly like my company or existence for that matter. But Charlotte wasn’t aware of my pregnancy, or so I’d lik

Chapter 58: Leonardo’s POV

Mason and I escorted our elderly witness to the police station where a sketch artist was waiting to sift through whatever recollection she had of our unidentified suspects. We took refuge in an interrogation room to reread details of both Claire and Matthew’s cases to find any similarities and to my surprise, there were quite a few. They both occurred in broad daylight and were executed as though elaborately planned prior to being executed, the witness’ described seeing a man in a suit, while Claire remembers her attacker wearing an Italian brioni black suit and lastly, both locations were broken into but there was no sign of forced entry. Claire’s door wasn’t tampered with and someone had let the man inside because he mirrored a wealthy client that should have access to the property. Matthew’s apartment was locked and there were no signs of any forced entry. No broken glass, no damages to the doors or frame and no one thought much of them when they entered or left. Mason stops for a

Chapter 58: Claire’s POV

It’s about 6P.M once Leonardo returns to trade shifts with Elena. I was happy to see him but part of me felt bothered that Elena would be leaving. “How was everything while I was gone?” Leo asks as he settles down and sits at the foot of my bed. “It was okay. Elena and I got to spend time together and the doctor placed my splint on.” I raise my hand to show proof of my new accessory. Leo holds his hand out to gently examine the splint and my visible wounds as it has fasteners on top that allow my hand to not only breathe but be seen. I hold my breath as he runs a soft finger over the fasteners and my bruised skin.“The doctor said my stitches will be removed in just a few days but the pins sticking out of my knuckles won’t be removed until later.” I break the silence as it made me wary after all that’s happened.“And how do you feel about it?” He asks as he slowly repositions my hand to see the shaped formation of the splint underneath.“I - I feel ruined. I’ve never intentionally h

Chapter 59: Leonardo’s POV

Much to my dismay Claire did have a point. Jordan was present almost immediately after her first attack and he would be viable as a witness - if he was willing to participate in helping Claire get justice. And I’d much rather be the one to confront him after what he had done to Claire and how he tried to pursue her. I refused to let him manipulate or traumatize her any further so I agree to speak to him myself.I decide to leave as soon as Claire wakes up. The doctor said she’d have her first round of physical therapy for her hand and I had Elena delivered here early so that Claire felt comfortable. I also contacted Jasmine at Claire’s request to update her on what had happened. Jasmine was distraught and came directly here. I catch on my way out to find Jordan.“Leonardo! Is she okay? Where is she?” Jasmine is clearly upset and was crying.“She’s doing okay. She’s been devastated and her hand is badly damaged. But I’m on my way to see if Jordan knows anything from her first attack. Chapter 59: Jordan’s POV

Business hasn’t been going well after losing my star architecture and the love of my life. Claire was my saving grace for my shady business deals and shortly after she left, the deals caught up with me as I watched her career flourish from afar. I received multiple lawsuit subpoenas and most of my long-standing employees decided to flee. The only one brave enough to weather the storm was my receptionist and truthfully, she was all I could afford at this moment. After liquidating the materials I had dwindled overseas and paying back these contractual-based lawsuits, I was left with only $10,000 in my business equity and no incoming work. What I had made by doing small contracts was only maintaining my business open and my drinking habit alive and well.I had gone to my office to drink away my sorrows and strategize on how I could possibly redeem myself without fleeing the country to fine work endeavors elsewhere. If I left, id never be able to show my face here again and I’d never get

Chapter 59: Claire’s POV

It was early when Leo had left. Part of me wanted to ask him to stay but it felt necessary to let him leave as he has been working diligently to find out who’s done this and trying to free my brother, Matthew. He did however make sure that Elena was here to comfort me and assist me in getting ready for the day. Leo had taken the liberty of calling Jasmine to update her on what had happened to me since the last time I saw her. I don’t know exactly how that call went but I was grateful to have him place it. I knew I wouldn’t have been able to make it myself. Almost immediately after Leo left, I hear a knock at the door. Expecting to see the doctor, I try to pull myself up to a sit with my only working hand - a task that proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. But it was Jasmine, looking frightened and worried.“Oh my god, Claire!” She rushes in to hug me and I instinctively throw my arms out to hug her back. Nothing compared to a Jas hug. “Leo called me and told me what happen

Chapter 59: Charlotte’s POV

After Roman leaves, I turn to Francisco and smile.“Lovely meeting your nephew. This account of what happened was very exciting.”“I told you, mon Cher.” He snakes his arms around my waist and pulls me tightly against him. “Your wishes have been granted.”“Yet you won’t grant me the wish of death?” I ask with the same amount of sex appeal as I did before.“She is no threat now. Why death?” He shrugs. A bold move that infuriated me.“Because he still loves her.”“He will not stop loving her in death. He would mourn her, blame himself for her despair and you’d be competing with a corpse.” How dare he think Claire was competition for me. Claire was nothing but a distraction. “Leo belongs to me. It’s not a competition when you’ve been wrongfully replaced.”“As you wish but I cannot kill her. It is far too risky now. She is being watched.” The only valid point he had made. I’ll have to ease my mind in other ways until I got Leo back to me.I go to kiss Francisco and suddenly feel a sicken
