CHAPTER 91

LUCAS' POV “You look normal”, Dave remarked lightly, raising his eyebrows in concern while I shifted my tie into a more comfortable position. “How else should I look uncle?”, I responded, my tone laced in slight irritation as I moved away from him to the other end of the chair. He stubbornly followed behind, sitting on the space beside me making me more irritated as to why there was no single-person sofa in this goddamn house. “You mourned the death of your sister for weeks and now you heard she's alive, there's no reaction?”, he asked, inching closer to me like trying to suck out emotions that just weren't there. A small scoff escaped my lips in amusement attempting to mask the numbness starting to defrost in my chest once her name was me turned again. “Why should there be any? If she showed herself to everyone except me, then I'd rather she was still dead anyways”, I answered bluntly, proceeding to check my wrists and instantly standing up. “W-what are you doing? Where are you

CHAPTER 92

LUCAS' POVMy ears filled to the brim with the continuous banter between Eloise and Nathan while we parked at the underground parking lot of an high end club at the other end of the city. No matter how I tried to zone out of their childish arguments, my head still clinged on to the bit of entertainment it offered. “Are you trying to seduce him or sleep with him instead?”, Nathan asked, sounding deeply irritated. “The fuck Nathan”, she exclaimed, eyeing him in disgust while I seriously contemplated saying a brief sentence just to add to Nathan's wounds but instantly decided against it, waiting for the right moment to strike him. “The floor is open to everyone else in there except Adrian”, she said, pushing a strand of her hair backwards. I swallowed back a laughter at the livid expression forming on Nathan's face with Eloise turning away from him and wearing a smug expression. It wasn't still clear as to when Nathan must have developed feelings for Eloise but I wasn't sure he knew h

CHAPTER 93

LUCAS' POV My crow like eyes intensely focused on Adrian alseated at the other end of the court room, pressing a icepack to the side of his face. Apparently, the substance exchanged between Robert and him was a drug meant to used on Eloise. Clearly, I didn't need to ask Nathan what went down as Adrian's face was enough proof of the events that followed. But somehow, I was still worried about Eloise especially due to her unusual absence at the court today. Only Nathan was. And his fists tightened every second with a sinister gaze fixated at Adrian. “Didn't you do enough to him already?”, I whispered, inching closer to him and bearing the burnt of his hit, furious breaths. “That motherfucker is still breathing so obviously not”, he harshly responded, slowly turning his gaze to meet me. “And you, what if we hadn't seen Robert and that exchange was done somewhere else. I tried to tell you he's –”, The sudden appearance of the judge succeeded in quieting him down, only leaving him wit

CHAPTER 94

ELENA'S POV Two weeks of endless torture. Two horrible weeks spent in total darkness. My stomach rumbled and my ears bled with maddening screams and threats from Adrian. If anything, I had truly underestimated the degree to how Adrian took the divorce. His obsession had somehow tripled due to the turn of events and this time, I was left with no option to fight back. Although, his awareness of my grit and determination had made him strap my hands to the bed where I laid throughout to stop me from doing anything. Each day, he came in with nice treats and started off soft spoken but once I refused to give in to anything he said, it felt like an outrageous beast emerged from inside of him. Broken pieces of kitchen ware rained down on my body, slicing through different spots on my skin as he ranted furiously without a care of his hurtful actions. After a while, I'd grown numb to his aggressiveness and even his fleeting kindness whenever he saw the clotted blood on my skin by the next

CHAPTER 95

ELENA'S POVThe entire court listened in absolute silence as I went up to the witness stand recounting my encounter in the hands of Adrian during the last few weeks. I tried hardly not to stare at the enraged expression on Lucas' face as he was held back by some officers from punching Adrian to death. From every image resurfacing in my mind's eye, my voice broke further and further irritating me even more as I thought I had been strong all this while. It felt like several knives were being pulled out of me all at once the more I spoke about my experiences in details. When I had eventually finished, Mr Hawthorne was then called up for questioning by both Adrian's lawyer and mine. Just as I expected, Mr Hawthorne denied knowledge of Adrian's mistreatment towards me and once again, played the ‘like a daughter’ card. But suprisingly, his false confessions were quickly countered by series of evidence produced by the lawyer Lucas had hired for me which were mostly voice recordings of him

CHAPTER 96

LUCAS' POV The court room was in total uproar by now with everyone scurrying outside for their safety. Despite knowing Elena and I were far from harm of any kind, my arms still held her tight to my sides protectively with my gaze following her slithering figure while the dumb officers forced Adrian and Robert to the ground, should they have had ulterior motives. “Let's go out through the back”, I whispered, still keeping my eyes at the direction she went through and leading Elena out following the opposite direction. Luckily, the nosy media was too occupied murmuring about the gun shot inside and asking questions they would never get the answer to, so Elena and I snuck peacefully among them and finally caught up with the ‘snake’. “What are you trying to prove now, sister?”, I asked on sighting her from behind, once we were a few inches apart. She slowly turned around, uncovering her face which still had that air of mysteriousness to it, making me raise my guard up as soon as I let

CHAPTER 97

ELENA'S POV ***Flashback Our legs swinged in rhythm as we sat on a pavement which subconsciously became ours ever since I stopped him from being bullied by Adrian and his annoying cliche. After fighting them off with my words, I'd asked him what he was doing at a secluded part of the school and he only handed me a sandwich in response. Since then, we had always met up here and since the other kids found my interaction with Lucas weird, it became our own little bubble to hide away from the world. On this sunny afternoon, I was reading my favourite novel at the time out loud to us as we ate from my lunch pack which was now double my usual size than before. And the best part about having my lunch with Lucas daily was he made sure I actually finished my food, including the crumbs. “There are people dying to find those crumbs Elena. Appreciate what you have now that you have it”, he always said while spoon-feeding me. “Well, all the more reason to leave the crumbs and let them find

CHAPTER 98

LUCAS' POVHer hair swayed lightly on her shoulders, tossed left and right by the cool evening breeze and even from a mile away, the disappointment still oozed strongly around her…and a bit of sadness. A sharp pain stung my rapidly beating heart as I realized the reason for her countenance was me. It was ironic how no matter how good my intentions were, she still didn't find the sight she stumbled upon justifiable. Especially after I'd mistakenly pulled the trigger but luckily didn't murder him. My shock on seeing her greatly exceeded the involuntarily shot at the judge, perharps because somewhere deep down in my heart, I already believed he deserved it. Plus my status and connections could easily hide the truth from the public but Elena's sudden prescence inside the room felt like I was draped in a huge clothe of sin and dirt. The disappointed look in her eyes was like the mirror I could barely look at each day, dismantling the perfect facade I always tried to keep on whenever I

CHAPTER 99

ELENA'S POVAfter last night's charade with Lucas, all I wanted to do was sob bitterly in my mother's arms but my reality told me otherwise. As much as I was heartbroken at his words the previous night, a small, tiny voice in my head agreed with him. He was right. If my father really cared about his family and all his hard work, he really would have come back a long time ago. But up until now, there was still no single news of him. So why should I have cared about upholding the family's assets? Why did I let myself break to keep my family together? And where did all that effort leave me? Homeless and an orphan. The sun softly broke through the light silk curtains in my old room with a damp smell that came from the walls as it had been empty for ages now. I broke into a long yawn feeling sapped out of every sort of energy to go through the day already. To begin with, I had nowhere to go, no job and a divorcee who's been sort of famous on the news. How great could that be? My on

CHAPTER 100

ELENA'S POV We waited outside the white doors revealing nothing but just a blinking red light as I constantly stared at it with increasing worry each minute. From her test results, it seemed she had gone into a state of shock as she was unable to resist the force of the bastard I now found out to be her father. “If she doesn't wake up,I swear I'll–”, I furiously muttered underneath my breath, slamming my fists into each other. “You knew about this and didn't think to do something?”, I faced Lucas, leaning silently on the wall and more quieter since we arrived at that scene. The more I tried to imagine what would have happened if we hadn't gotten there on time, the more my blood boiled in anger and I felt the goosebumps creep up all the way around my skin. I turned to look around my surroundings, clicking my teeth in regret as Nathan still hadn't returned from taking care of Eloise' father. He deserved to be lashed at even more. Finally, the doors opened redirecting my restless m
